I am indifferent to the Monarchy but AIBU to think it all feels very weird and drab?

Claire Balding's (love CB btw) is trying very hard to say how 'joyful' it feels and is a special day but it just doesn't seem like usual royal events to me. Just feels very flat. Maybe it's the greyish weather. AIBU?

One Mall full of crowds and that is and thousands of protestors. I love my country !

It just all looks so wrong - and they all look bored. What a waste of time and money.

I agree with you. It’s ridiculous!

There is literally no one lining the streets.

What are you watching for heaven's sake. There was no-one around the square outside the abbey because that's where the parade massed, but the streets are full of people.

Charles reading off a piece of paper made me giggle. He’s had a long time to prepare, you’d think he’d learn the lines 😂

QuickGuide · 06/05/2023 13:16

I think it feels a bit strange to see such old people centre stage. Not wrong, but it makes it lack vibrancy compared to a Royal Wedding, for example.

FoodCentre · 06/05/2023 13:18

vera99 · 06/05/2023 13:10

Hardly anybody there in the so-called crowds. Real shocker.

On the mall it was just service personnel who were invited. Security reasons in part. You can see crowds now.

Because I was wondering the same at first but it's quite obvious the people were further down

grayhairdontcare · 06/05/2023 13:19

It's just so lacklustre and pointless.
Even the weather can't be arsed

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 06/05/2023 13:19

DannyZukosSmile · 06/05/2023 13:12

Oh give it a rest FGS. Just switch off if you don't like it.

Err people are allowed an opinion on the whole bloody farce.

Chickenkeev · 06/05/2023 13:21

It's all a bit cringe

At one point earlier it was like king buckeroo. They just keep piling more and more stuff on him.

😂😂😂

Weather won’t have helped matters at all. Who wants to be stood in the pouring rain for hours?

I’d be interested to see this alleged video because I’ve watched the whole thing and didn’t see a rant. There was a pause - it looked like they were waiting for some steps.

It does feel unnecessarily long and there’s some odd traditions. I like a bit of pomp but I did think it would be a bit more contemporary. I don’t have issues with the king but I do have issues with the Church of England.

I see what you are implying .

I wasn't watching it on tv . it could be there but I doubt it

It was a video clip on Twitter .
If it hasn't been scrubbed it will turn up -
It was when Charles arrived out side the abbey
He was in the hilarious robes
It was like the pen rant but he must have thought he wasn't being observed so more tantrumy

Text underneath said Willaim was late - that must have prompted it

MrsWidgerysLodger · 06/05/2023 13:24

Crowds nowhere near what I thought. Agree with those who said both Charles and Camilla looked uncomfortable. It all feels horribly rich Vs peasants, especially given the COL crisis and we're likely to be doing it all again in under 20 years. I think the public may have supported it more if he'd abdicated in favour of William

TeenLifeMum · 06/05/2023 13:26

There’s lots there - from photos I’ve seen friends posting - but lots of the route is sectioned off for security so people can’t access it near the palace. It doesn’t have the same throng it used to when there was less crowd control.

There is literally no one lining the streets.

Its not 1952 when people could just turn up and throng the pavements.
Numbers are restricted because of security risk. Only a select few would be allowed to stand near the carriage route.

notimagain · 06/05/2023 13:26

Peachy2005 · 06/05/2023 13:04

This rant though…can we have a link (or it didn’t happen)??!!

It happened, even foreign TV showed it and commented on it.

Looked to me as if somebody had screwed up timings somewhere along the line which led to HRH having to wait in the carriage until things were sorted out inside the Abbey.

These events are usually timed to the second so in the context of a Coronation it was a fairly, err, remarkable stuff up.

Novella4 · 06/05/2023 13:26

I saw a clip in Twitter of William 'pledging '

He couldnt look his dad in the eye!
Grim
That or he couldn't be bothered to memorise a sentence !
Doubly grim
What he he'll was the point of that !

Whitehall was barely 3 deep and folks were running along with the carriage to keep up with it. The Queen had 5 miles in pouring rain thronged with maybe millions. We are at the beginning of the end.
It's about bums on seats. If the balcony is to a half filled Mall then it's time to consider what next. Charles was warned but he wanted his gig and here we are.

Novella4 · 06/05/2023 13:29

@notimagain

Can you find a link please ?

I've searched on Twitter but can't find it

I know people are implying I'm lying.
I'm not !

TeenLifeMum · 06/05/2023 13:29

@Novella4 he was reading words held up to the side so it’s hard to do that and look straight ahead. Stop making up stuff without the context. I’m not even a massive royalist but you are stating things that others might believe when you’re talking without all the information.

Not true a friend of my partner is an ardent Royalist got up at 6am this morning and got a front row seat on Whitehall near Horse Guard's Parade and her friend joined her 2 hours later with no problem. . Cardiff Castle the only official screening in Wales.

FoodCentre · 06/05/2023 13:32

@vera99 oh wow, I love that picture, would've been amazing to be there whew!

It's not as packed as that, but the streets are still full today. There are clearly areas that are marked off for the public too. If it was 1952, I might have gone for a look but we can watch on telly so here we are🤷‍♀️

Also yes, weather, Charles being less popular and more

Simianwalk · 06/05/2023 13:32

Namechanger355 · 06/05/2023 11:16

It does to me

maybe the weather. Maybe just a bit off because:

  1. they are just normal people with their flaws eg Andrew, Harry and Charles himself
  2. the country is in a CoL crisis
  3. he isn’t the queen

Andrew doesn't have "flaws" he's a lying, unsweaty, paedophile.
