Claire Balding's (love CB btw) is trying very hard to say how 'joyful' it feels and is a special day but it just doesn't seem like usual royal events to me. Just feels very flat. Maybe it's the greyish weather. AIBU?

I get what you mean about the holy aspect. We're Jewish and appreciate the multi faith inclusion. By Joyful, I meant in terms of the people outside I suppose. It just doesn't 'feel' the same as other big events, even the holy ones like weddings

Yeah, I'm catholic by birth so have an uneasy relationship with the protector of 'the' faith but I think they have worked hard to make this more inclusive of all faiths. I suspect there'll be more flag waving and cheering in the leaving procession.

To me, he looked nervous throughout, and Camilla looks like she'd rather be anywhere else. It's a bit gloomy.

Laiste · 06/05/2023 12:16

It should have been kept as a low key religious ceremony with a bit of TV coverage.

That way a big crowd and any parties organised in his name would have been a pleasant bonus.

But the build up to this whole thing has been handled as if it was going to be 1953 all over again and that was just never going to be the case.

He must know he's not popular.
And she always looks as if she'd rather be at home. Her home - they don't actually live together ...

ivfregret · 06/05/2023 12:17

It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen and I'd imagine anyone under 40 feels the same.

Weird AF, the silly costumes the obscene money spent.

I guess though I have some sympathy for the fact he has spent 75 years working up to it and say fair play in that respect

spottybug · 06/05/2023 12:21

It's because it's a religious thing

CreationNat1on · 06/05/2023 12:22

It's like a renewal of the vows, 50 years on. The music is nice, calming.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 06/05/2023 12:22

You can always reach for the remote…

CreationNat1on · 06/05/2023 12:23

Kate is the only one smiling naturally.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 06/05/2023 12:25

I can't tell if Camilla is nervous or just thinks the whole thing is funny 🤔

Aslanplustwo · 06/05/2023 12:26

It's supposed to be a solemn, dignified, event rather than a joyful celebration surely?

Do they not?! Why not?!

davegrohll · 06/05/2023 12:28

Camilla always looks like she's just been plonked down 😆
Charles has waited a very long time for this moment so I think he should enjoy his moment. I'm no royalist but I don't hate them either 🤷🏼‍♀️

When people say he's waited a long time....did he actt want it?

FoodCentre · 06/05/2023 12:30

It's all a bit pointless given he can't do anything in the 21st century. Don't have any opinion on Charles.

Ceremony, outfits and music were beautiful. Tbh, anyone saying it's boring is a bit uncultured, sorry. You can still appreciate the history behind it

Chickenkeev · 06/05/2023 12:31

I'm not British and tbh it looks nuts altogether watching it from the outside. I feel a bit sorry for Charles, an elderly man who prob wants to chill out in his last years. Who'd want this reaponsibility at that age?

AmeliaEarhart · 06/05/2023 12:31

If he didn’t want it, he could have abdicated.

Novella4 · 06/05/2023 11:37

There's a video of Charles ranting in the his golden carriage outside the abbey

Ooh please provide a link

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 06/05/2023 12:32

Has anyone got the link of him ranting? I can’t find it anywhere

Chickenkeev · 06/05/2023 12:32

AmeliaEarhart · 06/05/2023 12:31

If he didn’t want it, he could have abdicated.

True enough. But that'd be a big deal in itself. There's no escape for them really.

BlueKaftan · 06/05/2023 12:33

The concert as the first guests were arriving was the best part. Prince George and Camilla both looked nervous.

Barrythetimesprout · 06/05/2023 12:33

Oysterbabe · 06/05/2023 11:53

They're about to bring out the holy hand grenade of antioch, surely it'll kick right off.

Brilliant 🤣
When he was handed 'the Bracelets of sincerity and wisdom' I thought I was watching Monty Python too.

MidgeHardcastle · 06/05/2023 12:34

So are we making up the
'Rant' or was it just a convo to fill in time as they were a bit early?

Daleksatemyshed · 06/05/2023 12:35

The service drags on and on, I'd be gagging for it to be over. The crowd will be happier once it's done and,I'm sure Charles will be as well.

MrsMoastyToasty · 06/05/2023 12:36

The whole thing reminds me of Founder's Day at school (I went to a boarding school).
