Breeder has not giving us her address to view puppy

Hi we were looking for a spaniel breeder and found one not too far from us, price agreed with deposit agreed, breeder had chat on phone with us to find out about us & all was good. Arranged with breeder to visit puppy tomorrow at her house by phone however she said to us she would give us her address but up to now she hasn’t. So AIBU to think that she isn’t going to give us the chance to view the puppy considering we have deposit to pay her? Or are we missing something here that maybe she’s just been busy?

sounds v dodgy have you checked kennel club l/champ dogs etc for previous litters? Do some intense research as most breeders are open and happy for people to view pups etc?

teacoffee1 · 29/04/2023 16:13

When I was buying my puppy, the breeder met me at a local carpark, made sure I was who I said I was and then once he was happy and had a copy of ID he asked me to follow him to his address to view the puppy.
Breeders don't want to give out their address to anyone, as if you were someone who robs puppies to resell them, you have the exact address and can strike at any moment.

Safarigiraffe · 29/04/2023 16:14

We got breeder from a website called pets for homes

She may be reluctant to give out her address until she’s sure you are absolutely serious. There are issues with puppy / dog theft which breeders will be concerned about.

isthisit83 · 29/04/2023 16:14

I don't think it's that strange. When I sell something on say Facebook I only give my address an hour or two beforehand

Cantdoitallperfectly · 29/04/2023 16:15

Maybe a red flag, our breeder did a few FaceTimes with us before we travelled to view the pups. She asked to see our home and garden etc. I would definitely avoid the sale if they want to meet in a car park etc. Our dog was well socialised and we got to meet both the parents and spend time with them. It’s such a big investment (I don’t just mean financial) you want to make sure you’re getting the right dog for you and your family. As it happens we changed our mind about which pup we wanted out of the litter once we met them all.

BarkyMatherson · 29/04/2023 16:15

I spent time with both of my dogs and their mums (and indeed one’s dad too) at their breeder’s houses.

Dont pay ANY money until you have seen the puppy and mother!

chilliplant634 · 29/04/2023 16:16

Well she's got the money now. I don't think it was a good idea to give the deposit before seeing the dog.

MogHog · 29/04/2023 16:17

I can understand people being a bit anxious over litters thefts as its happened a few times near me but if you have any doubts the trust your gut.
Have you send them a message reminding them about the address?
Do not buy without seeing parent and dont send a deposit without seeing mum and pups and if they pressure you to do so pull out.

Safarigiraffe · 29/04/2023 16:17

We didn’t give no deposit at all, we was meant to go tom to view the puppy and give deposit then after viewing

We got our dog from a breeder via Pets4Homes but there are some really dodgy people on there.

Our breeder was happy to give out her address, we visited every week and saw the litter with their Mum. She also gave me details of the vets she used, so I phoned them and checked she was above board.

Just be careful. And do your research

Yes we have sent messages, voicemails and phoned as well and there’s no answer from anyone

Its a scam or a puppy farm. Why would you put down a deposit for a puppy without looking at the litter first, seeing the mother and looking at the conditions of the litter?

Shannith · 29/04/2023 16:23

Please write this one off as a no go.

It's a puppy farm and the condition they keep the bitches in are horrific. Most of the pups are badly socialised and in some instances ill because they are so badly bred.

Pretty much everyone selling on pets at home are puppy farms.

What breed are you looking for? There will be people ok here who can point you to reputable breeders who breed healthy pups from well looked after parents.

PinkFootstool · 29/04/2023 16:24

Pets For Homes is just the advertising board, Gumtree or Facebook selling for animals. They offer no safety, no checks and no security at all. It's just a place to advertise. It doesn't mean it's a capable safe or decent breeder. It also doesn't mean it's a puppy mill, but frankly in the current times it's more likely than not to be a dodgy "breeder".

Have a read of the RSPCA advice on how to check whether a breeder is who they claim to be and whether the puppies and the parents are safe / healthy.

She might just be busy then. Give her chance.

MadeForThis · 29/04/2023 16:28

She might have had a few people interested in the pup and has already sold it. Ghosting you now.
