Breeder has not giving us her address to view puppy

Hi we were looking for a spaniel breeder and found one not too far from us, price agreed with deposit agreed, breeder had chat on phone with us to find out about us & all was good. Arranged with breeder to visit puppy tomorrow at her house by phone however she said to us she would give us her address but up to now she hasn’t. So AIBU to think that she isn’t going to give us the chance to view the puppy considering we have deposit to pay her? Or are we missing something here that maybe she’s just been busy?

If they won’t let you view the parents it’s a huge red flag and I’d back out. Save yourself the heart break of future health problems.

MyLifeIsFullOfLemons · 29/04/2023 16:32

As you haven’t paid any money and it’s bank holiday weekend, I’d be inclined to wait until morning. She likely doesn’t want people randomly turning up going ‘surprise’ when she has family stuff on.

She might just be busy then. Give her chance.

Well she didn’t give us her address to begin with and said she would text us it instead so we have given her a chance all it takes is less than 5 mins to give a address out

We got breeder from a website called pets for homes

No, no, no.
Please do your homework, this is puppy farming.

The breeder gave area/street a week before then house number on the morning we were going, she may be being cautious.

cpphelp · 29/04/2023 16:37

Could it be that the breeder wants to make sure you aren't going to steal the puppies?

Addymontgomeryfan · 29/04/2023 16:39

I would wait until tomorrow and see if she contacts you with the address. She may just be being cautious because puppy thefts are common. If the pups are KC registered you can check the breeder out on the Kennel club website.

It doesn't immediately scream puppy farm to me. Those people are usually keen to get people to view litters and get them sold because all they care about is the money.

Greengold123 · 29/04/2023 16:46

Pets for homes is a notorious back yard breeder / puppy farm site.

NEVER buy a puppy without seeing the parents and home environment

emotionalpuddle · 29/04/2023 16:46

In my experience with KC registered breeders, you're not given the address until the day of viewing. That way they can ensure they have someone with them for safety and so people can't turn up at night to steal the litter? You just can't be too careful now x

WiddlinDiddlin · 29/04/2023 16:46

Legit breeders do not meet in carparks to lead you to mystery addresses.

They do not ask for deposits before seeing litters, or exchange puppies for cash in carparks or give excuses that you can't see puppies Mum because shes staying with a friend/gone for a walk/having a week in Marbs.

Very few legit breeders advertise on epupz/pets4homes/etc - they use the breed club website and breed clubs puppy co-ordinator to let people know they have or are planning a litter.

It sounds like this breeder has ghosted you possibly because they've sold the puppy you were interested in or have failed to source the right puppy to pretend to have bred it... or various other nefarious reasons.

Get a friend to ring the number and pose as a puppy buyer - see if she answers when it is another number!

There may be a legit reason, I was once 'ghosted' by a breeder I was due to visit a few days later. Turned out she had dropped dead of an aneurysm leaving a not very doggy husband to deal with a litter of giant breed puppies and he was not in any sort of state to sort it all out at all!

Getting someone else to call will show if shes being shifty quickly enough, if she answers a different number and tells a potential buyer there still are puppies or indeed that they're all gone, but shes still ghosting you... that answers that!

Two places I'd look for puppies.

Kennel Club Website will give you the details for the breeds Breed Clubs/Societies. THey will have a puppy co-ordinator or the secretary will have a litters/puppies list.

Champdogs have a decent listing system for breeders who KC reg, health test etc etc.

If she does get back to us with her address should we go or just leave it

In that case avoid at all costs.

lljkk · 29/04/2023 16:54

it sounds like you may be very impatient, unless you need to know by 5pm today in order to be ready to travel tomorrow?

Like others said, if you don't see the puppy in a satisfactory context, then you don't send deposit or anything else about buying that puppy.

Pegsmum · 29/04/2023 16:55

If she gets back to you then go? Some breeders are rightly very security conscious so it’s not necessarily a bad thing she’s not given you the details yet. If you go and still are unsure you can always walk away.

Jellybebe · 29/04/2023 16:55

If you cannot view the puppies with mum and see where they are being kept at her house then do not put down a deposit. Also do a google image search on any photos she has posted or sent you as sometimes puppy farms can copy genuine adverts previously posted.

What type of spaniel are you looking for? Always aim for kc registered- whilst kc registration does not guarantee mistreatment of mums and puppies, there is a restriction on the number of litters that mum can produce for them to be kc registered thereby reducing the chance it is a puppy farm. You can also trace back the puppies lineage. We even went as far as Facebook stalking the breeder and saw lots of pictures of mum with the family looking very much loved.

Good luck and let us know how it goes (and pictures please!)

Bamboozleme · 29/04/2023 16:56

What, if any, research have you done re this breeder op?

PollyPeptide · 29/04/2023 16:57

I would never buy from a breeder unless I could see where they're coming from. And we also chose our puppy from the litter.
My friend bought from a breeder a long way from her. She went and looked round, chose the puppy and was given online access to watch them over a camera. Plus they filmed the puppy going to the vets and the examination, etc. It was all very open.

No reputable breeder advertises on pets for homes.

IVbumble · 29/04/2023 16:58

She probably just banks on earning money from the people who do pay a deposit without seeing the pups and then creates another advert for other dog breeds.

MyLifeIsFullOfLemons · 29/04/2023 16:58

Safarigiraffe · 29/04/2023 16:34

She (the breeder) told us to go Tomorrow at 4 by appointment

she still has plenty of time to give you her address then, or maybe if you have public SM profiles, she doesn’t think you are a good fit. Who knows?

A relative has a dog breeding license. she has all sorts of nutters who have randomly shown up before buying or added her on FB then, after buying, have invited her to their puppies birthday party. Honestly, some people buying dogs can be a pita (but I’m not saying you are, just giving examples).

Voerendaal · 29/04/2023 16:59

too many red flags as PP said. Reputable breeders do not use pets 4homes or Facebook to sell their dogs. I would be very wary and actually would not be buying s puppy this way. I would give this one up and look for proper breeders of springers through KC or breed association. If her number is selling horses as well she may well just be an amateur breeding from her own dog. - it may be legit - she may have done all the tests that are relevant to your breed …… but there again who knows. Such a massive investment- do some homework and write this one off is my advice

No, the person doing the breeding - not the breed of dog. Who are they?

Do they have a website? Are they claiming KC registration? Have you checked if they are registered? Are they registered as a breeder with the council?

How many pups are available? Did the search show up any more dogs being advertised? Have you reverse searched the photos they had on the advert?
