It's not what I want kids to be subjected to.

Most gangsters are very nice people when not dealing with their enemies. I went to school with a genuine Mafia princess. Her father was charming when I attended big parties at their posh house.
G rated drag story hours are a nice way to introduced diversity. Panto type costumes and jokes stay suitable for all audiences. Too often, drag performers tell adult jokes and wear costumes too risqué for a children’s event.

HinCogNeetOh · 27/04/2023 16:17

Why is drag the poster boy for diversity?

No one can tell me this.

Samphiredragonfly · 27/04/2023 15:38

Yup. To keep the culture war relevant. Not had any trans posts recenty.

There was one last night, that has since been deleted.

OP do you take your children to Panto (if youre in the UK)?

Somebodiesmother · 27/04/2023 16:28

So which schools exactly is this happening in?

ASGIRC · 27/04/2023 16:30

Hubblebubble · 27/04/2023 16:07

@GinUnicorn do you feel the same way about Christmas panto dames?

Right?! Dames are LITERALLY drag queens. But theyre called Widow Twankey, instead of Bagga Chipz or whatever.
And I havent seen anyone up in arms about Dames in Panto. However, mention a Drag Queen, and its all torches and pitchforks

ASGIRC · 27/04/2023 16:31

GinUnicorn · 27/04/2023 16:05

No. The whole thing is crazy. Drag is adult entertainment. I also wouldn’t support stripper story hour or gangster story hour.

I just don’t see how it benefits kids.

Do you take your children to Panto, over Christmas?

Panto is not all focused one dude and the stories aren't quazi religious indoctrination of Foucault and his queer theory, they are like Catheticism books to explain Crenshaw, Marx and Foucault ideologies.

Echobelly · 27/04/2023 16:34

Do kids need drag story time? Not really. Will it do any harm? No, and a story read by an experienced performer could be extra fun and engaging.

I hope those of you going on about 'crotch bulges' never go to the ballet, you'll have the shock of your life...

msisfine · 27/04/2023 16:34

@pumpkintits what is the disadvantage?

Hubblebubble · 27/04/2023 16:35

@ASGIRC exactly! And you can really tell who has literally never been to one by the posters who are convinced they're pole dancing in a bikini in front of toddlers.

Apart from the new 6foot five woman ballerina, most are excellent at their art and the context is the male ballet star will be part of a company, there is not an indoctrination storyline or sexual movements like twerking simulatiing anal sex or pushing a penis in amd out nor audiene touch participation.

I have never seen a drag queen any good at dancing at any of these story hour events.

You understand that drag queens are actors, right? Doing a performance in character? I'm pretty sure they don't think their characters are real women called Baga Chipz or Choriza May. They're in costume doing make believe. It's been happening since the Shakespearean era so maybe it's time to just get over it.

Diversity of what, though?

Or they could be reading Red Riding Hood. Just because they are drag performers, it doesnt mean all they talk about is drag.

katyperryseyelid · 27/04/2023 16:51

I am sick to death of the Panto comparison.

I’ve never seen Christopher Biggins gyrating his almost bare arse cheeks a foot away from a toddlers face, unlike the photos I have seen of drag story time.

This is one of the times that living in an absolute shithole suits me. It would never happen where I live, the parents would not stand for it and would be very vocal about it.

AskMeMore · 27/04/2023 16:51

I have never heard of a school around me doing Drag Queen Storytime. It is really not an issue.

AskMeMore · 27/04/2023 16:52

I put this up there with claims that Winter has been cancelled and we can no longer say Merry Christmas.

lightinthebox · 27/04/2023 16:54

These posts are why i love my local library that is inclusive and supports people who want to promote reading.

Oh no, a way of getting children engaged in reading, how awful 🙄

Skilled scripts too from childhood tales we all heard, not indoctrination into new stories with permanent pre pubesance treatments for children and all the focus isn't on Biggins.

msisfine · 27/04/2023 16:55

@elbowstoes so the insinuation is that all drag artists are paedophiles? The female ones too?

Grumpypotamus · 27/04/2023 16:55

There are two reading for 2-year olds here, they call themselves Ms Shameless Winehore and Lady Busty.
