'A woman's prime is between 18-26'

AIBU to be annoyed at DP saying this? He's arguing it not from an opinion, but from a 'biological' viewpoint and when a woman is most appealing to men from a biological standpoint.

I am in this age range but bordering on the end of it and having such a crisis about aging anyway (which I HATE because I can't understand why women have this pressure that MEN do not and believe that it is predominantly a societal thing). He disagrees and says it's not a societal influence at all and solely biological and that 'most men' would agree that this is the age a female is 'in her prime'.

(To add, I'd like to think I'm not in my prime now before 25 as I'd be sorely disappointed 🤣).
Surely his black/white perspective of this is wrong? It just annoys me but possibly because I'm so into feminism.

He's not wrong but men are at their prime as well physically at those ages. Men like to kid themselves they always stay attractive no they get bellies , grey hair and erectile dysfunction. At least as a woman you can keep your looks a lot longer if you take care of yourself. Most men look shit past 45 there's a lot more polished attractive older women. Men are more allowed to age we should stand up to this shit. It's designed to bring us down.

What gets me is when they use the biology excuse they never stop and think through their thick skull that it works both ways. Most men aren't successful or rich enough when they are in their 35+ and most are losing their hair, developed wrinkles. If you take an average bloke of 25 vs an average bloke of 35, I'd rather shag the younger one. If the 35 was a millionaire and would marry me, yeah I'd choose him I guess but purely physically, an athletic younger man is hotter than an athletic older man. Old man smell is a thing but these incels only stop at the woman they never think about how age affects their saggy nut sacs.

Agree with this. Reminds me of the scene in SATC when Samantha dates a much older rich man and it’s going great until she sees him naked and his old man saggy bottom, she makes the excuse they aren’t compatible and runs out lol

I think emotion is clouding a lot of the rationale of women on this thread to be honest

mondaytosunday · 16/04/2023 21:19

Well men physically peak at 30 so he probably doesn't have long either.

Felixss · 16/04/2023 21:20

It's only rich older men who happen to snare a younger woman. It also happens rich older women get a much younger boyfriend. If people have equal wealth they pick the more attractive one. Saggy gazillionaires wouldn't get young hotties if they were poor..

BubziOwl · 16/04/2023 21:22

Deadringer · 16/04/2023 19:50

Aren't they the peak child bearing years? But yes I think he is being a dick. I suppose he believes that men improve with age too. Just tell him that men are at their peak at whatever age he was two years ago.

This would also be my approach.

Men's fertility declines with age too, so you can use that as your reason 👍

No women marry old men for money. If an old billionaire asked me to marry me and I was single.I'd say yes try hard to shag as little as possible then in a few years get divorced. You won't find a poor old man with an attractive woman it doesn't happen.

Oh I’d agree that from an appearance perspective it’s true for women. But it’s also true for men- I see very very few men over 45 who I’d consider to look “hot.” Most men of that age I’ve met or see on Facebook have let themselves go- balding, overweight, no muscle tone etc.
whereas I’ve noticed women tend to look after themselves more purely due to the societal expectations put on women to be attractive.

IcedPurple · 16/04/2023 21:25

(which he believes is why so many men in their 40s are attractive to younger women

They wish.

JamSandle · 16/04/2023 21:28

He sounds like he is trying to 'neg' you to me.

Neverhand · 16/04/2023 21:29

Hey I'm in my fifties. A whole new view from here! Have you seen the research that sometimes gets posted on here about mens and womens age preference. Basically women prefer age appropriate throughout life and men from 18-90 prefer a 20 year old. Depressing but true (probably). On a sexual attractiveness scale.

I've fallen out with my DP this weekend over some of the things he said about this being inevitable. Men are grim. Mostly.

Neverhand · 16/04/2023 21:30

museumum · 16/04/2023 19:50

A woman’s “prime” is NOT when she’s most attractive to men! It’s when she doesn’t give a fuck what men think and has the wisdom, skill and confidence to excel in her own right, with or without a male life partner.

I'd like this if we had a function

Yessssss!

turning 40 and I've never been as confident and at ease with myself.

Sittwritt · 16/04/2023 21:31

lough · 16/04/2023 19:56

@Albiboba funnily enough he believed that men don't tend to have a strong 'prime' because their fertility can continue for so much longer (which he believes is why so many men in their 40s are attractive to younger women, not a societal reason like I'd believe), but if he had to say he'd say early to mid 30s. I'll definitely come back with some of these facts (but he's not the type to care if he would be out of his prime 😂)

Your bloke is full of shit I’m afraid and fancy his little psychopathic traits in lowering your self esteem whilst stroking (wanking) his.
He obviously watches teen porn too.

To add insult to above injury he’s clueless. Older men that are bullies like himself find it easier to fool young women that have not experienced psychopathic manipulation, hence their so called ‘attraction’. He would not stand a chance with the hardy women that know what they want and I can tell you now they would not be lining up for him that’s for sure.

Lovelyring · 16/04/2023 21:31

Asked my DH. He said it's a dumb question because "prime" is undefined.

Prime fertility - your DH is right.
Prime mentally or emotionally - I thought the brain continued development until 25ish so presumably prime is later in that case and your DH is wrong.
Prime attractiveness? Depends partly on the age of the beholder I imagine. And I find confidence attractive and more 30 year olds are confident in themselves than 18 year olds imo.

dudsville · 16/04/2023 21:36

It's a misogynistic view point. Ask him if he was purely going on biology why he didn't say from the age of 16, or an individual woman's own unique fertile time of life which might even be earlier.

A person's prime is based on many factors, and a woman's general skill base improves with age up the point where that stops and starts declining, the same as men. A man isn't considered as still being in his prime at 80 simply because he can produce sperm.

This man is not a friend of women, not a good influence on any children he might father, and not a good partner.

It doesn't really matter what men 'prefer' when 9 times out of 10 the women wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Yes. Physically we may be in our prime at that age but we’re more than our bodies.

Best and most accurate response on this thread 😂😂

Daffodilwoman · 16/04/2023 21:40

Ok so biologically the younger both sexes are the better in terms of breeding. This applies equally to both males and females. So to be blunt on a biological level it’s better for two 16 year old to breed and have a child than say two 26 year olds. The two 26 year olds are more in their prime than say two 36 year olds. The younger a male is the better. The same applies to females. If you are to use a sperm donor then it’s far, far better to go as young as possible and check out his father and grandfather for disease.
The problem with men who spout “It’s biology!” Is that they get all shirty and defensive if you pointed out that your own 16 year old dd is fine to get pregnant as “It’s biology,” these types would be the first to criticise the parents of 16 year olds encouraging them to get pregnant.
You can’t pick and choose which facts you spout and which you don’t.

Right? I’d prefer to date Jason Momoa than Dave from accounts, it’s not gonna happen though is it lol

Hahahahaha

Almost as if he thought a woman's appeal to a man were the most important aspect of her being.

Not the first time I have posted Maya Angelou's wise words 'when a man shows you who he is, believe him the first time '

Thighlengthboots · 16/04/2023 21:41

Exactly!

The reality is that people mostly end up with partners 'on their level'.

So unless an older man has something special to offer to a young woman, and the vast majority of them don't, she wouldn't touch him with somebody else's.
