To be getting more not less depressed about Brexit as time goes on

It all seems so pointless doesn't it, I feel sorry that some- probably many- people were duped into voting for it, I feel annoyed that the 48 percent who voted remain have been completely ignored, annoyed about all the divisions it has caused our country and all the rows, and overall just really fed up with the state we are in now. I thought it would be getting better by now but actually feel worse about it now than I did at the time.

Completely agree. Many older members of my family voted to leave and now say they wouldn’t have voted that way if they had their chance again but I told them at the time. It’s infuriating so we don’t even talk about it anymore. I travelled a lot pre Brexit and it makes me sad and angry any children I have won’t have the same opportunities.

Endlesssummer2022 · 11/04/2023 22:36

Things are getting worse. You’ll have the ‘we survived the war!’ brigade along in a minute but I’m finding it increasingly harder to push back against DH’s desire to move back to his home country of Australia.

People were lied to weren't they, it's outrageous really when you think about it. I think we are all so worn down as a country now, we seem to just be accepting things getting worse all the time.

The thing is, it has been a shit show since so the brexiteers can claim that it is nothing to do with them. But it is. And they fucked the country over.

Still makes me mad

jgw1 · 11/04/2023 22:38

Brexit is great, and thanks to Boris it got done, even though remoaners like But Jeremy Corbyn tried to block it. We now have control of our borders, so we can pay the French 100millions to stop migrants, we have our soverignty, unless you live in Northern Ireland and most importantly of all our bananas are just the shape we like.

LoudMouthLol you are just one person who has had a pay rise, it doesn't take away from the country going downhill though does it, or make all of this okay for everyone else.

I can't imagine ever not feeling sad about it. Genuinely. It nearly broke my mum, she was knocked totally sideways by it, and felt monumentally betrayed by her generation.

Yep. It's a mess and we look like idiots.

teneastereggs · 11/04/2023 22:47

Yes one of the sad things is our international reputation has been ruined for our lifetimes.

Brexit built on lies and racism and achieved bugger all. If you think brexit was lies, you want to try living in Scotland the lies just never stop.

My mum felt similar - I'll never reconcile to it as it's just not good for the country and our future generations and I hope all the younger people who had opportunity removed from them get a chance to reverse that vote one day.

Greenshake · 11/04/2023 22:50

You can’t blame all the ills of this country on Brexit. Whatever your views on it, there are other factors at play.

Rather than trying to' blame all the ills' I'm specifically talking about feeling depressed about Brexit. Which I do.

I hope so too. We'd never get the good deal we used to have if we rejoined And there's no political party saying they'd even consider it - again the 48 percent of people (higher now) being totally ignored.

Greenshake · 11/04/2023 22:58

Well, what do you think should be done about it then?

Well I think we should be trying to rejoin. But sometimes it isn't always about trying to fix a problem. Sometimes it's OK to take some time to allow yourself to feel sad about something. Which is what this thread started as.

mummeeee · 11/04/2023 23:05

Still devastated here. Still can’t believe people were able to vote to take away the rights my children were born with.

Greenshake · 11/04/2023 23:05

Yes, I understand that, but Brexit was years ago, and people have to move on!

Elliania · 11/04/2023 23:05

I agree. It's been so hard watching multiple friends who run small businesses struggle after losing almost all of their EU business overnight. Thanks to increased customs/shipping fees (plus the postal delays although I realise that's not due to Brexit), people in Europe just aren't ordering anywhere near as much as they used to.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 11/04/2023 23:06

It has been a nightmare for my company - we have had to move operations into Europe and I would not be surprised if long term the UK office closes losing over 250 UK jobs.

tescocreditcard · 11/04/2023 23:06

I voted to leave.

I can see now that we were lied to.

I am beyond angry.

PlinkPlonkFizz · 11/04/2023 23:07

Voted to stay in but even at that, I don't think I anticipated what extent of damage it would do to us over time 😭
