Depends on the reason - is there a big sporting event? Local festival? Asylum seekers being housed nearby?

Coffeellama · 30/03/2023 14:06

If it’s for the coronation it’s fine.

Middletoleft · 30/03/2023 14:07

God, no

Just no specific reason whatsoever

Goody thread?

Yerroblemom1923 · 30/03/2023 14:08

It's a no no. Unless you're a member of the BNP/Britain First/Tommy Robinson etc. It's also chavvy as so.... just no.

thepox · 30/03/2023 14:08

Goady

Yerroblemom1923 · 30/03/2023 14:08

@thepox baddy thread, I reckon.

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 30/03/2023 14:09

I've got nothing against it myself, but I'm not in the habit of flying flags. Is this for the Coronation?

Why do you ask then? You looking for approval or just wanting a thursday bun fight?

viques · 30/03/2023 14:09

Can you not afford curtains petal?

Same way it would go down with the majority of people anywhere....an absolute no.

Brefugee · 30/03/2023 14:11

Hmm. Football/rugby/other sporting occasion? sure - for the duration.
Coronation? he's not only the king of England, union Flag in that case
St George's day? yeah, why not?
you're BNP and you don't care who knows it? have at it

tbh i think the cross of St George is a pretty ugly flag. The only flag i really like is the Welsh one and it grieves me that I'm not Welsh so don't ever fly / use one. I do like the Yorkshire flag though and do hang that out on Yorkshire Day (1st August). But tbh if they're out a long time they get tatty so i don't do it much

Wisterical · 30/03/2023 14:12

Why would you want to do that OP?

Greenshake · 30/03/2023 14:12

Unfortunately this does now have some unpleasant connotations. I wouldn’t do it.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 30/03/2023 14:12

It's a bit chavvy but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with it. Quite sad tbh that it could be read so negatively.

Stilted · 30/03/2023 14:14

Sorry I didn't mean it to be goady .. at all. I read in one of those humour books a few years ago that a certain demographic would never consider this .. I just wanted to see what the MN consensus was.

FWIW, I did talk about draping a St George flag during a recent World Cup, but didn't actually end up doing it.

There is a house round about 5 or so minutes drive from where I live.- and it's there all year round - doesn't seem linked to any 'event' of any kind

Go for it.

Absolutely no need for a justification.

Go to some Scandinavian countries and see how many proudly display their flags.

TroysMammy · 30/03/2023 14:15

Isn't it sad that the flag of St George and the Union flag have such negative connotations.

A Welsh Dragon flag displayed in Wales would invoke pride and no one would judge the flag flyer at all.

Wisterical · 30/03/2023 14:12

Why would you want to do that OP?

To be honest the only time I'd briefly talked about doing it was during a recent World Cup. I didn't actually do it

This

Jonei · 30/03/2023 14:18

It wouldn't bother me if people want to put up a flag of their country. I can't see that it matters.

Mostar · 30/03/2023 14:18

No, I wouldn't. Unless England are in the World Cup final or something. Otherwise, just no.

Ducksinthebath · 30/03/2023 14:21

In an ideal world, fine. Sadly in reality those flags and the St George Cross in particular have been co-opted by very intolerant groups. So I would assume it was someone who shared views with those groups.

Though like a lot of things, if you do it in or around shedloads of cash it’s perfectly fine.
