How would this go down with the MN demographic ?

A saltire is more common in Scotland than a StGeorge cross in England is, in my experience.

And I see fewer saltires draped out of a window in comparison - the Scottish Royal Standard is reserved for that 😉

Fine for events but if it was permanent I would probably think EDL, BNP etc.

I wouldn't. I only found out on mumsnet that people think that flying the union flag implies that the owner of the flag is a BNP/EDL supporter. I had no idea.

I agree. Displaying the flag in the USA is so common that it is not associated solely with right wing extremists, but with all Americans. This is why the Union Flag should be displayed much more to reclaim it for everyone, not just racist idiots.

But the union flag is called the ' Butchers Apron ' round the world there is no getting away from that .

I’m all for a bit of bunting but flags draped out of windows is chavvy, council estatey, NF bollocks.

(There you have it, the ideal MN response)

I had no idea. Sorry about the whataboutery, but the Spanish don't come out well either.

January 6th 2021 - People carrying the stars and stripes hitting police over the head with their flagpoles. Are these not right wing racist yobbos?

of course those people are yobbos but the point is that every type of American can be found with a flag hoisted up outside their home, not just the knuckle draggers, so the stars and stripes doesn't have the same associations that the George's Cross has. But the excessive American patriotism leaves me cold. Little kids pledging allegiance to their flag every morning is so ott. The insistence that they live in the best country on the planet. All of it. Just calm down, America.

Obvious wrong 'uns with Union Flags all year round:

the royals are wrong 'uns? No arguments from me!

Nope! Not a chance. We have a Greek flag, and the E.U flag hung in our back garden, though.

Well no but I'm in Glasgow
