To not feel able to cook in my kitchen because it’s dirty

WoIsMe · 24/03/2023 08:00

My DH did the kitchen yesterday after dinner and this is what I find when I go to make my own breakfast and my kids’ lunches. I don’t feel that I can prepare food without cleaning up the kitchen first but I have to get my kids to school and get to a meeting at 9 a.m. while my DH has already gone out to work.

So, AIBU for feeling that I can’t cook in this kitchen without having to clean it first?

That’s hardly dirty. You’re not going to prep food in the sink are you?!

Do you have OCD or health anxiety?

TimeForMeToF1y · 24/03/2023 08:03

I'm guessing your picture didn't upload but your feelings are your feelings and you aren't unreasonable to have them

premicrois · 24/03/2023 08:08

It's probably taken more time to take pics and post them here with a rant than it would to give it a quick wipe.

Then you need to speak to your husband later.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/03/2023 08:10

No picture?

bluechameleon · 24/03/2023 08:11

I'd give the sides a wipe before I used them, but the grubby sink and hob aren't actually going to affect your food are they?

MaryHinges · 24/03/2023 08:12

Is there supposed to be a photo here?

WoIsMe · 24/03/2023 08:15

Strange, I can see the photos on the app but not on the website.

A quick wipe down of the surfaces could have been done, in the time it took to take multiple photos and write a post on Mumsnet.

yogaretreat · 24/03/2023 08:19

That would take 2 mins to wipe... Total non issue to me but we are all different

notthisagainforest · 24/03/2023 08:23

It would take you seconds to wipe it all down though? You don't cook or make food in the sink. Let go a bit

BreviloquentBastard · 24/03/2023 08:28

To be honest I'm surprised at all the people saying "just give it a wipe down". This is pretty grubby considering her husband supposedly cleaned it last night.

I'm not that bothered about mess but I am bothered about having to clean up after a half arsed job done by a man. If this is his idea of a clean kitchen I'd be having a word, why is it always a woman's job to finish housework started by men?

She's not asking "is my DH being a bit useless, and should I lay down the law about what cleaning actually means?" though. I'd be right behind her on that.

She's asking "AIBU to be completely unable to make breakfast in a kitchen where the sink and hob haven't been freshly cleaned?"

ChessieFL · 24/03/2023 08:43

I can’t see any pictures.

Xrays · 24/03/2023 08:44

I can’t see any photos.

inappropriateraspberry · 24/03/2023 08:45

Put down a chopping board and use that. Tell husband he needs to clean it properly.

WoIsMe · 24/03/2023 08:46

Sorry, I have no idea why the photos are only showing on the app as I uploaded them on the website.

Oh FFS I was expecting a proper tip, that's just a few crumbs, just wipe it down and crack on. Dramatic much

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/03/2023 08:48

What a fuss!! Clean down the area where you are going to cook or prepare food and have a word with your dh about cleaning up better later. To wipe down the surface you need would have taken less time than it took to type your op!

Are you going to drip feed that you have anxiety about slightly untidy kitchens now?

FiveShelties · 24/03/2023 08:48

That would annoy me and I would have to wipe before I started doing anything.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 24/03/2023 08:48

Are you always this much of a drama queen? a few crumbs and a bit of food in the sink, really?

LIZS · 24/03/2023 08:49

Use a chipping board or wipe the surface. Hardly grubby, just used.

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 24/03/2023 08:49

Lol. You can’t make breakfast due to a few crumbs, it would take all of 20 seconds to wipe that down.

on a serious note, is there a back story to your reaction, it’s very extreme ?

FiveShelties · 24/03/2023 08:49

Just seen the photos - honestly a quick wipe would clear all that.

WandaWonder · 24/03/2023 08:50

I can see the pictures

I am still not seeing the issue

Imnotachap · 24/03/2023 08:51

I completely agree with you OP. That's a half-arsed job and i wouldn't be pleased he thought that was acceptable.
