This man (in red) has undergone no attempt to transition. Yet he's playing on women's GAA football teams in Ireland because he feels he's a woman.
Imagine him tackling a poor woman would have no chance. Prior to that he played women's rugby.
Why is this happening in women's sports, prisons, changing rooms, toilets.
Why are trans women's rights more important than ours.
This man (who is in no way a woman or even a trans woman) needs to play with a team where the rest of the players have penises too or else start his own trans league. Get out of women's sports & spaces.

It really is censorship. I don't want to derail your thread here with discussion of the compliant and complacent Irish media (because that's a whole other thread in itself) but just for the benefit of UK posters, it might seem paranoid from a UK perspective to think that the Irish state exerts undue influence over the media here but it really is not too far from the truth of how things work in Ireland. For example, regarding the Barbie Kardashian story, by Wednesday evening the Independent's eye-catching headline article with Leo’s comments about biological males in women's prisons was redirecting online to a different article with Simon Harris's more wishy-washy statement. The original article actually disappeared. It’s almost as though someone from Leo’s press office made a phone call to the editor….

@SealHouse please discuss at length. As an Irish woman with three girls living in Dublin I'm sick of being silenced.
Ireland is actively partaking in state controlled censorship.
There is also lots of trans propaganda in all Irish media bar The Gript.

I do wonder how some people on this thread would cope if their son told them he thought he was in the wrong body and wanted to live as a woman.

I admit I would be concerned. He's not quite 14 so such big thoughts are a lot to deal with. I would support and listen to him and advise him to give it some time.
I would also be surprised as I believe I would have had an idea by now that he was transgender.
Regarding the sport issue, I would inform him that as he is going through puberty he would be unable to compete alongside women/girls because he has and always will have a body that has been exposed to high levels of testosterone.

So if I say I feel like a 10 year old, does that mean I can use that to my advantage? Cheaper tickets, free entry to places etc etc?

I wish I was too.

I give you Self ID.

Which is something the Labour Party will introduce if they have their own way.

It's terrifying isn't it. I raised this to campaigners at my door, they seemed shocked to be questioned at all and had nothing to say at all about it.

It makes me feel sad and angry in equal measures.

While most of what is being asked for in terms of protection of single sex spaces is totally reasonable I find it unsettling how nasty many women are about it. Some are not but many describe trans women in such awful terms and it seems like they think they are all disgusting or sexually deviant or deliberately trying to hurt females. Surely you can have some compassion for people who are trans and having a really tough time while also being firm that single sex spaces are important and should be protected?

Being kind has resulted in -

-Rapists in women's prisons.
-Lesbians being called bigots for rejecting penises in their dating pool.
-Children being put on harmful medical pathways.
-Mediocre men winning and taking places from women in what should be female sport.
-Unisex toilets being introduced in schools.
-Children being taught there are 100 or more genders.
-Drag queen story time for pre-schoolers.
-Girls being molested by transwomen in supermarket toilets.
-Males running rape crisis centres telling women to reframe their trauma and that they are bigots if they want single sex therapy.

This is not an exhaustive list.

If she tells me when she’s older she feels like she’s a boy I would be supportive in her exploring why she feels that way and ultimately if she wanted to transition I would support that too (though not as a child).

I have a gender non conforming autistic daughter, I will never tell her that is not really a girl. There is no wrong way to be a girl or a woman. I find it shocking the number of autistic or otherwise vulnerable girls who are having mastectomies in the name of this ideology. That's not being kind. It's horrific.

Having some compassion isn’t the same thing as “being kind” in the sense you mean it which is to put up and shut up with anything and everything. It’s being able to disagree with a position without being horrible about individuals. I have no issue with people stating facts. It’s impossible to change sex, it’s not reasonable or fair to allow male people in female only spaces like prisons/shelters etc regardless of their gender identity or expression.

You can believe all that without being derogatory about trans people (which people regularly are on threads on this site). My personal belief is that gender shouldn’t be a big thing because people should be free to express themselves as they wish regardless of their sex but many people (including many women and including many women who have some very unpleasant views about trans people) don’t agree and think gender roles are very important. Anyway you seem to be suggesting that just offering trans people the basic courtesy of using the name/pronoun is the issue but it seems to me like the only issue is a failure to clearly differentiate gender identity and sex. I’ve recently challenged our work policy on equality (not the only one who did) because it’s been changed from mentioning only gender (by which at the time they meant sex) to mentioning gender identify and expression but not sex. It’s getting changed to add sex so all three are clearly defined characteristics they are committed to not discriminating on the basis of. I feel like if we could do a bit more campaigning around that (sex matters do currently) and a bit less foaming with vitriol about individuals it would be a better approach.

It’s awful if anyone is making significant and permanent changes to their bodies without being challenged to consider alternatives or without fully understanding what it means for them in the future. If however they understand and it’s what they believe will make them happiest I would hope families are supportive & try their best to understand their children’s point of view. As I said I wouldn’t accept my kids transitioning medically as minors. I don’t think for a second they could fully understand the implications at that age and I don’t think it’s something any parent should support for a child. I saw the message earlier about the famous five and George. It’s true that we are going backwards vs forwards if we are getting less accepting of people not conforming to gender norms. I totally agree there is no wrong way to be a girl or to be a boy but I’m also aware we are pretty much in the minority thinking that

@whatkatydid2013 so let me get this right, women are threaten, bullied and assaulted for standing up for their rights but your biggest gripe is people are not being nice??? Really? Have you told the TRA to stop being nasty? Or is it only women you want to #bekind?

@whatkatydid2013 what's your stance on men violating & infiltrating women's sports & spaces. Men with penises. People would be much more compassionate if they started lobbying for trans sports teams, toilets, changing rooms etc.. But no their aim is to invade & take over women's activities, spaces & freedoms.

In your opinion, there is nothing.anywhere that shows he is the same as Andrew tate - nor that he is right wing - and quite frankly the right wing stuff is thrown around to readily in order to silence debate - imo.

And please lose the patronising tone.

100% hyperbole to say Jordan Peterson is in the same vein of Andrew Tate.

That's the kind of nonsense that results in people expressing that opinion being seen as ridiculous and ignored.

I'm not a Jordan Peterson fan but come on...

Come on now, be nice to your oppressors ladies, be kind to those men who seek to take your rights and infiltrate your spaces. Be welcoming to the men that wish to redefine you and reduce you to nothing more than a performance that they are able to do better than you ever could. If men in dresses threaten to rape you with their lady dicks, just remember how oppressed and marginalised the poor little victims are. 🥺

There may be people like that but by definition they are not gender critical. To be gender critical you have to reject not embrace the idea of gender stereotypes as important.

On the point of sports only, I don't have a problem with men and women competing together because sport should be a meritocracy. Elite sports don't award top prizes based on effort or someone doing their best, all that matters are the results and that is often down to biology - a person who is naturally shaped for a particular sporting role has an inherent advantage. In my view there should be no division based on gender, race, sexuality, religion or age, the only division should be based on performance.

whatkatydid2013

You are mistaken about so many things.

Most women do not value gender roles, they are oppressive. The clue is in the name gender critical, women who describe themselves this way are critical of gender, it should be redundant in a progressive society.

The confusion about sex and gender in equality policy and law is entirely down to Stonewall. There is a reason they want to erase the distinction and in fact they campaigned to have "sex" removed from the EA and replaced with gender. They tried to do it by stealth and then denied that's what they had tried to do.

This is a movement that hates women. I will not tie myself in knots trying to find language which does not offend anyone to describe the problem, that would be a doomed mission.

Well then how about instead of trans only events, people who believe they have gender identities can set up their own sporting competitions with different categories according to gender identity, and any women who identify as "cis women" and want to be allies can go and compete as trans women.

Of course, it could end up with only male athletes qualifying and winning in the men's, women's and non binary categories, but if that happens, the "cis women", female non binary people and trans men (provided they aren't on testosterone) can just compete as women in regular sporting competitions.

I already said

“I have no issue with people stating facts. It’s impossible to change sex, it’s not reasonable or fair to allow male people in female only spaces like prisons/shelters etc regardless of their gender identity or expression”

Clearly you are choosing to ignore that. Would people be more sympathetic if “they” did various things to campaign for third spaces? I’d like to think you are right but I suspect the more likely response from many would be that it was unreasonable to request or too expensive. There have been campaigns from trans people for third spaces in the past. Not from lobby groups necessarily but definitely from individuals and they seem to have got limited exposure (example I found with minimal effort - https://www.change.org/p/boris-johnson-a-plea-for-third-spaces-for-transgender-men-and-women)

I really don’t get why this is such a with us or against us issue for people. It’s got to be possible to find a solution where you protect single sex spaces and make provision for transgender people.

All that matters is winning, not health and fitness, not having fun, not safety or fairness. I’d say expand it though, we want the best, and humans aren’t the best at most things. I’d say we should start introducing other animals to sport too, specifically bears to male MMA and wrestling…

Do you genuinely not realise that no women would win anything, ever, if this were the case? Do you seriously have so little concept as how to much stronger and faster men are?
Or do you just not care about women?
Or are you taking the piss?

musingsinmidlife · 24/03/2023 12:09

Male puberty gives males an advantage that no other characteristic really gives. HIgh school boys outperform Olympian and world record holding women.
https://boysvswomen.com/#/ Some of these are outdated too for example the boys 5K high school record is 13:30 now. Most female Olympians have similar personal best as top <16 year old boys.

I used to play hockey and was one of the stronger female players when I played on a woman's team. Then I played on a rec co-ed lead and a guy who weighed less than I did and was out of shape checked me and I flew and was injured. This strength just from being male was overpowering to my female in shape fit athlete strength.

If boys are faster than elite female athletes, should males compete in female athletics?

See how the best high school boys stack up against the best female Olympians and World Record holders in Track & Field and Swimming.

Isn't it just lunacy.. Just because he says he's a woman, they have to include him! Still has his penis, undergone no transitioning but just wants the physical advantage of playing against women to make himself feel like a big man.

Quoted from the article:

“Valentino, of medium height and slim build, said five years of hormone therapy had eroded any physical advantage and made her testosterone levels compliant with Olympic committee regulations.”

That is transitioning?

(I am on the fence by the way)
