Randoms using my wheelie bin for their dog shit!

I'm fuming. Put my wheelie bin at the top of my driveway last night for collection today, it's fairly full so the top is slightly open. Just went out this morning (it hasn't been emptied yet) and noticed someone has placed two bags full of dog shit in my bin on top of my rubbish bags! AIBU or is this absolutely disgusting? I don't have a dog and I don't want dog shit in my bin.

You know they know, they know you know and I presume nothing gets said?

If I see them do it I tell them to put it in their own bin…there’s a reason they’re putting it in my bin and not their own and it’s because it stinks!

redboxer321 · 17/03/2023 10:10

I think productivity is going to be at an all time low at @DomesticShortHair's place of work today.

You’ve used the word “randoms” so I take that as you don’t like people who you don’t actually know putting tied bags of dog poo in your bin, but you’d be happy for say a friend to do the same?

I think you’re being completely unreasonable. It’s a bin, bins are for rubbish. I can’t understand why this matters to you so much? Get your bin cleaned when it’s emptied if you care about how clean it is so much.

Also, if I was walking my dog down your street and your bin was out and I had a bag of dog poo I’d put it in your bin. In fact, I’d target your bin specifically every day just to wind you up 😁

I feel sorry for you.

If this is the biggest wind-up you've got in your life you should be very grateful.

It's one of the smallest problems I've got currently, actually. I didn't once say it was the biggest. But that doesn't matter. It still bothers me, and it doesn't have to be the biggest problem of my life to bother me either

If I put my can in someone’s recycling bin, am I a disgusting CF, OP?

Can you really not see a difference between an empty drinks can and a bag of shite?

Exactly! Ridiculous comparison

@SerafinasGoose

Poo bags in trees is nauseating. My house is on a corner with a hawthorne hedge - I used to get bags of shite hung in my hedge as a regular thing (not as much recently tbf). It feels so contemptuous to hang your dog's shit in someone's hedge - take it home ffs, you chose to have a dog, put it in your own bin - or hang it in your own tree if that's what you want.

Some of you lack imagination and, frankly, intelligence. I don’t want dog poo bags in my wheelie bin because (1) I can’t trust other people to dispose of it properly. The bag may not be tied properly. (2) In order to degrade more easily the poo bag may be thin, therefore more likely to split when other rubbish is placed on top of it. (3) My experience was that the poo bag clung to the bottom of the wheelie bin and wasn’t emptied with the rest of the rubbish so I had to get intimate with my wheelie bin to fish it out. That was not a pleasant experience. (4) Dog poo stinks, even when enclosed in a thin plastic bag. I don’t want my wheelie bin smelling of other people’s dog poo, thanks.

Yep, this is exactly why I wouldn’t like it. People should take it home to their own bins.

Also, the bins might belong to the council, but they reside on people’s properties. It’s the person who lives there who is stuck with the smell and potentially having to dig the poo bag out of the bin/clean up the poo if the bag splits, so the fact that the council owns the bin isn’t really a justification.

Pudmyboy · 17/03/2023 10:16

YANBU, it's disgusting, I had someone put an absolutely stinking untied bad of dogshit in my newly emptied bin, I could smell it as I walked towards the bin. I was so angry I threw it in the gutter, no way was it staying in my bin for the week! If I could have identified the person who put it there I would have thrown it, untied, at them! Definitelynot acceptable to out dog shit in any other bin but the owners or a public bin! Take your crap home!!

I had a stranger’s dirty nappy in my bin once. Wouldn’t have minded much but it was just sitting there, half folded, and it wasn’t in a bag. My bin wasn’t out on the street, it was up my driveway and beside my door, nor was it due to be emptied for a while.

Tbf, that's a very different scenario.
I think most people would be annoyed about that - I certainly would.

The reason I shared was because there seems to be a disagreement about whether you should put faeces in strangers’ bins. Someone thought dumping shit in a stranger’s bin was fine in both scenarios and lots of people think it’s okay here today. When I discovered the little bundle I was bemused as to why it was there when my bin was so privately located. Most likely, it had to be the nappy disposer had a legit reason to be on our property, was in a tight spot and saw no harm in it. But it’s still a move I wouldn’t personally make, and nor would I put my dog’s mess in a domestic wheely bin even if it was on the street awaiting collection - my shit, my problem - maybe it’s Freudian😂

Aww thank you, that’s kind of you to say!

It was rather kind of me wasn't it. 😊

horseyhorsey17 · 17/03/2023 10:18

I've never understood why people care about this. If it was a bin bag full of dog shit and you couldn't get your own stuff in there, that would be a problem. But it isn't, and it isn't. Who cares if their outdoor bins smell? They do anyway.

You chucked dog shit into the street?! What a sane and proportionate response.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 17/03/2023 10:20

I am a dog owner and I think it is really unpleasant to throw a dog poo bag into someone else's bin. I keep mine in a separate small bin by the dustbin until collection day, when I put the bags in the main wheelie bin BECAUSE even when tied tightly, they smell horrible. When I am out I either put them in a public bin (permitted in my borough) or take them home with me. I cannot bear people putting their rubbish in my bins, especially when I know their own or a public one is close by.

Verylongtime · 17/03/2023 10:21

Put your dog shit, even wrapped and bagged, in someone else’s bin is absolutely disgusting. YANBU.

soddingspiderseason · 17/03/2023 10:22

I wouldn't be bothered about the general waste bin, but people put their bagged dog shit in my green bin which infuriates me as it contaminates the whole load which can't then be used for composting. And yes, even if it's in 'degradable' bags. Grrrrr.

*I’m out for a walk, I’ve finished a can of pop and the street I’m on has their full recycling bins out for emptying.

If I put my can in someone’s recycling bin, am I a disgusting CF, OP?*

Unless your can has excrement in it, then no.

Just establishing that you don't have a problem with someone putting rubbish in the correct bin, even when that bin belongs to someone else.

I don't have a dog. I'm not very keen on them really. But even a non-dog person like me can see a sealed dog bag in a bin about to be emptied isn't remotely the same as actual excrement put in your bin.

Climbles · 17/03/2023 10:23

I wouldn’t put dog poo bags, or anything for that matter, in someone else’s bin. However, it’s so horrid to carry a dog poo around for an hour freezing your hands off and as you generally have the other hand holding the dog lead it stops you being able to do anything else. So I understand why people wouldn’t think it’s not a big deal just to pop it in a bin awaiting collection. Most of the time you’d never even know.

Are you for real, and yes I do care if my bin stinks of other people's fucking shit - dog or nappies.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 17/03/2023 10:28

I don't put my own dog's poop into my household bin. It goes in the dog bin which is near to my house. I definitely wouldnt put it in someone else's bin.
Im not too bothered if people put rubbish in my bin while its waiting for collection as long as its not mixing wrong stuff ie rubbish in recycling. I suppose if the bin had been shut you wouldn't even know to be annoyed about it.

LottieBuzz · 17/03/2023 10:28

I had the same problem and it use to really annoy me! One guy always putting his dog poo in my bin even though he only lived a couple of doors down the road!! One time he didn't even tie the bag! Furious! So I can completely understand.

I got a sticker to put on the top of my bin, I felt a bit like a miserable old lady doing it though.

Why?

KimberleyClark · 17/03/2023 10:31

Wouldn’t bother me if the bin was on the road waiting to be emptied, but it would if someone came on to my property to put dog shit in my bin.

horseyhorsey17 · 17/03/2023 10:34

I don't care about people putting stuff in my bin, so long as they get the wrong bin. I had to fish a load of wine bottles and takeaway wrappers out of my garden waste bin - that was mildly annoying I suppose.
