Potential lodger has been logging on website - is she going to be flakey

I’ve got a spare room and she’s supposed to be moving in, in two weeks.

I’be noticed she logged into the website 9 hours ago and also a few times over the past week. I don’t check everyday but yesterday she logged in three days ago.

I haven’t taken a deposit…. but do you think she’s going to flake out?

What website?

DoAWheelie · 12/03/2023 01:57

What website and why do you think this would make anyone flakey?

Bunnyfuller · 12/03/2023 01:57

Why no deposit?

Amoreena · 12/03/2023 01:59

?

RobertsRadio · 12/03/2023 02:03

Que?

Rewind20Years · 12/03/2023 02:03

But you are on there as well ?

Tricktracey · 12/03/2023 02:04

Spare room.

I’ve had a few email notifications. I have deleted my advert so it’s clear the room is available. I don’t know why she is logging on…

im very suspicious by nature.

You think she's still looking for somewhere to live?

Tricktracey · 12/03/2023 02:08

Why no deposit?

Don’t know for sure….

Presume it's a 'spare room' type website and the potential lodger is still checking it out in the hope of finding another (cheaper?different area?) room.
you could contact her and ask her to put down a deposit to secure it. Say someone else is interested or something.

I feel like it’s a little too late for that :/

for reference I’ve been doing this for years….. including when I lived overseas.

I think because I didn’t get her down for an actual date…. And she kinda said the same date she was leaving her current contract (which is a Tuesday)….

maybe I’ll contact another person who’s just joined.

Why would you contact someone else?

She maybe relying on you and the room!

Mysorehead · 12/03/2023 02:14

Just ask her if she's still planning on moving in?
She could be logging on for all number of reasons none of which might be flaking out.

PacificallyRequested · 12/03/2023 02:15

If you haven't taken a deposit or agreed anything in writing then she owes you nothing, she's entitled to keep looking in case she finds something better. On the other hand, it would be a total dick move on your part to offer it to someone else as she thinks she's got a room sorted if she needs it.

Redglitter · 12/03/2023 02:17

And what if they have the sheer audacity to log in regularly too? I cant see why you'd think she's flakey? Id say monitoring someone's activity on a website is odder

yummumto3girls · 12/03/2023 02:22

Maybe she is logging in to show friends/family pictures of where she is going to be living? Very strange attitude from you.

Yeah I should have taken a deposit….

shes supposed to be moving in, in around 2 weeks. She’s in a situation whereby she needs somewhere to live as actually has given up lease etc… so I’m being a bit irrational but also I have a bad feeling. My own fault as I should have taken a deposit…. I’m really bad with boundaries as well.

I used Sparerooms quite a lot when I'm traveling for work on big projects. I don't see what your Issue is but i would have an issue if I was her.

I always keep my profile open and check up until the day i move in, Im paying for a service and you never know if something better comes along or the person renting out might pull out on me leaving me in the stum.

But what I will say is that the times when the person I'm planning renting from has pestered me and asked me on a few occasions why I still log on (it has happened before) I will dump them like a rock. Stalking your potential renter is wrong.

Agapornis · 12/03/2023 02:41

You're also logging in on the website. Maybe she stalking you and thinks YOU'RE the potential flake! Grin

Totalwasteofpaper · 12/03/2023 02:42

Do you have a confirmed move in date?
Why cant you message and say I'll need 2/4/6 weeks rent as deposit now?

I used spare room a lot. I'd def message her and confirm dates amd contract stuff. Presumably you have a lodgers contract?

It’s not stalking…. Perhaps a level of trust which I’m going back on…
