I've never 'got' her. Just thought she's daft and not funny at all.

YANBU. Mind you, Jo Brand is the only female comedian I find funny.

magicstar1 · 10/03/2023 14:29

You can think what you like.
Different people find different things and people funny.
Meh

JoanThursday1972 · 10/03/2023 14:31

I saw her on some clips from Top of the Pops (the vintage ones from BBC4) with Bananarama and Alison Moyet, presumably they were for Red Nose Day, where she's just photobombing basically and I don't get it at all.

You not finding her funny doesn’t mean she’s not funny. Nothing wrong with different people liking different things. Can’t really see a need to make a thread slagging her off.

NervousNel · 10/03/2023 14:34

I love French & Saunders Grin

Different people have different senses of humour.

HedwigIsMyDemon · 10/03/2023 14:34

I ❤️ Dawn. I find Jimmy Carr repulsive but people go and see him in their thousands. 🤷‍♀️

Comedy is sooooooo subjective!

OneTC · 10/03/2023 14:34

Not seen her do anything for a long time but vicar of Dibley was great TV

wildthingsinthenight · 10/03/2023 14:34

YABU

Mitchumforthewin · 10/03/2023 14:35

I wonder if she was perhaps funny at the time but we have moved on. Humour evolves. I used to think loads of things were funny in the 90s which now I don’t find amusing at all (the Mary Whitehouse experience, for example) - see also lots from the 70s/80s - a lot of it doesn’t seem funny at all now, just really puerile. I think she might be one of those sorts.
Having said that, Father Ted which is 25 years old will ALWAYS be funny!

carriedout · 10/03/2023 14:35

Vicar of Dibley was very funny IMO.

I think it is really shitty to start a thread slagging someone off just because you personally have no sense of humour don't enjoy their work.

Although I hear she speaks every highly of you @JoanThursday1972

monsterradeliciosa · 10/03/2023 14:36

I've been rewatching French and Saunders and vehemently disagree.

IAmTheWalrus85 · 10/03/2023 14:36

I’ve never found her particularly funny but I actually don’t find many professional comedians that funny. Like another poster I find Jimmy Carr repugnant and can’t fathom why anyone would even crack a smirk at his rubbish let alone pay to watch it.

Comedy is very subjective.

SomePeopleAreJustBloodyStupid · 10/03/2023 14:36

I've never found her, Victoria Wood, Jo Brand, or any other female comedian funny.

Graham Lineham is a genius.

flapjackfairy · 10/03/2023 14:37

She was brilliant in jam and Jerusalem . v v funny series all round in fact.

ALongHardWinter · 10/03/2023 14:39

I like her when she's by herself. I never found French and Saunders very funny. But I've read a her autobiography and a couple of her novels and lived them.

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 10/03/2023 14:39

I love her. She makes me smile. She has such an expressive face. I absolutely love her in The Vicar of Dibley. It's my comfort TV.

It's not Terry's, It's mine.

ALongHardWinter · 10/03/2023 14:39

Loved not lived.

You are free to report the thread, if you don't like it and think it in bad taste. Go ahead. I said I don't find her funny, her comedy is daft. Comedy is subjective. That is not "slagging [an individual] off". You could also report this one at the same time
www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4760084-nicestnot-nice-celebs?page=4&reply=124529163

This invites "slagging off".

Dawn doesn't know me and I don't know her. So she has no opinion on me, and my opinion on her as a comedian is not the same as her as an individual. Good god.

YABVU. She's hilarious and I love her. I've always loved her humour, and I love her impressions. And I love Jennifer too.

Ostryga · 10/03/2023 14:41

Go on, tell us a joke op!

Annoyingwurringnoise · 10/03/2023 14:42

She’s smug and annoying.

Maybe then it is because it is of its time. I wasn't even born when the Bananarama song was out and I was 5 when the Alison Moyet song was. So that's maybe it.

I don't disagree with this but she is also very funny. She did a skit as an American standup which was one of the best. Maybe the bulk of French and Saunders was Jennifer's talent but Dawn was also brilliant as Stallone's mother.
