I'm a childminder and today was quick tea day for mindees aged 2 - 6. Had a frozen Goodfellas pizza from Asda. Was cutting it up for the little ones and being greedy I ate a few pieces too. Good job I did. It immediately tasted weird and chemical like. I ate 3 mouthfuls in total then my throat and tongue started burning. Not horrendous but not pleasant! I've still got a sore throat now. I've obviously not served it and will contact Asda but suspect they'll just refund. I've had to give the poor kids a lesser meal and what if i hadn't have eaten it? Definitely hasn't come from my oven or worktop.

Keep it, plus packaging. They will want it back ime.

OneFrenchEgg · 01/03/2023 17:07

Plus you should from now on always fo a taste test, in the interest of safety of course.

Agree, this might be something that needs an urgent recall. I would contact ASDA asap

WonderingWanda · 01/03/2023 17:19

Ew, good job you tested it.

2bazookas · 01/03/2023 17:27

You need to contact BOTH your local councils Environmental Health Dept. AND Asda, right away, as bot need to urgently investigate , examine and test goods like yours or from the same counter.

It may be an accidental manufacturing or storage problem but it could also be malicious contamination. Either way the range needs to be withdrawn to protect the public.

From experience, both the EHD and the supermarket will respond very fast.

Bluelightbaby · 01/03/2023 17:29

As a previous CM. I’d obviously contact Asda and environmental health and also create or alter your risk assessments as this was a near miss

Nimbostratus100 · 01/03/2023 17:29

you need to contact the council and environmental health immediately

Floralnomad · 01/03/2023 17:31

Have you picked up a GF one by mistake , their GF pepperoni pizzas do make your mouth burn .

Justmeandthedog1 · 01/03/2023 17:39

It didn’t have any packaging stuck to the bottom of it, did it? I cooked that with the pizza once and it smelt vile, the taste would have gone into the pizza. Never bought shop pizza since.

Lol - what? Her risk assessments??

RuthW · 01/03/2023 17:46

Of course she would have risk assessments. It's a business.

Withdrawn. Missed that she was a child minder and thought you were telling a mother to do it.

backing out now.

Serrassi · 01/03/2023 17:50

Yech, thank goodness you tasted it!

I tried a bit of premade baby food once from a pouch and it was rancid/rotten. Never used premade baby food since 🤢

Yes

ReneBumsWombats · 01/03/2023 17:52

Was it in date? Just a plain cheese and tomato pizza?

AloudAlot · 01/03/2023 18:00

Just contact goodfellas direct, it’s a lot quicker than contacting Asda, Asda contacting Goodfellas, Goodfellas asking you for the packaging and a sample etc etc etc.

TropicalSun72 · 01/03/2023 18:02

It was in date yes, no packaging on it and just cheese and tomato. I've kept it. My tongue is still tingly and now my lips.
Not impressed. I will contact the council and Asda.
And will also keep nicking the kids food to check in future!

Not the point but lesser than a frozen pizza?

EmmaDilemma5 · 01/03/2023 18:07

I'm glad you tested it.

But I'm also surprised that your parents are fine for you to serve frozen pizza. This is your job, you should be providing nutritious meals every single day. That's part of what you get paid for.

I'd be really disappointed to think my childminder was serving that.

We all serve frozen pizza to put kids time to time, but you're being paid for professional services, you should be providing better. And should definitely make sure you have back ups available.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 01/03/2023 18:07

Silly question, but you didn't by any chance leave the base on (packaging) when you heated it up?

weirdoboelady · 01/03/2023 18:07

Is it possible though that there's something on the pizza that you, and only you, are allergic/sensitive to? For example, what you are describing sounds like what happens to my DH if he has coriander.

Agreed. They don't really come much lesser than frozen pizza, do they?

FuchsAndMöhr · 01/03/2023 18:10

🙄

I agree - if I’m paying for a meal I expect it to be nutritious. Cheat meals like frozen pizza are parents privilege. I always have some decent batch cooking in the freezer which would take as long as a pizza and be no more effort to rehear. Bolognese/curry/chilli etc.

Dodgeitornot · 01/03/2023 18:15

I agree too. I'd be pretty pissed off if I was paying a childminder and they were feeding my kids processed crap. A jacket potato is cheaper and far healthier. Bang it in the microwave if you must, they don't care if it's soggy.

Aside from that, it sounds like you left the plastic bottom on or some of the plastic wrapping.
Or there was some already in the oven. That's the only time that's happened to me.
