To be worried about Russia's retaliations on the West?

There was an LBC listener who called in and said that Russia will nuke the UK first as retaliation for giving Ukraine fighter jets. It wasn't too long ago that fighter jets were considered off the table by the US and the UK. There were also two people on an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast discussing this. The powers that be just seem intent on bringing us closer to nuclear Armageddon. Sometimes it seems like nobody will do anything until it's too late.

They won't use nukes because it would trigger their own annihilation. They would only do it as a last resort if they felt their own existence was under threat. Whilst they may pretend this for propaganda purposes, they know that it's not actually true. Russia will not actually be invaded by the US, Ukraine, or anyone else.

He's a grifter begging the world for help after his country was illegally invaded and his people are being killed, including civilians and children? Do you think he should just hand the country over to Russia even though the Ukrainians don't want it?

I must admit I was a bit antsy at the beginning of the war but honestly, if Putin was going to do it, he would have done it by now.

If it helps, he cannot unilaterally decide to jus push the button. There are others who have to agree to it.

Putin wants to restore the ''glory days'' of the Soviet bloc and if he nukes anybody, he will be getting 10x more in response. No more Russia.

Save from the occasional headline that I happen to see each morning, I no longer read the articles about the Ukraine war to preserve my sanity.

Warsaw, Baltic countries, Prague, base Ramstein in Germany, ... we are all on the list and closer. Not mentioning Kyiv/Lviv.

Every week someone crosses some "uncrossable line". That is the doctrine for dealing with potentially nuclear madman. Cross the red lines one by one and take turns.
Maybe some smaller country will send one or two jets first, even if in "spare parts" mode, so the line technically would have been crossed before UK get to it.

Let's face it, Putin's invasion was wrong, but it's not like Ukraine and Zelensky are innocent little victims. They totally failed to handle the rather large separatist regions of predominantly Russian ethnicity and have been making them suffer since 2014, and also failed to uphold the Minsk 2 agreements.

Putin is not a complete idiot. If he launched nukes - assuming they still worked with the way their equipment has been shown to be wanting in the Ukraine - then Russia would cease to exist afterwards due to the retaliation.

So nuclear is not going to happen (I remember we all worried about this far more in the 80s) and conventionally his army can't even defeat the Ukraine. They would be decimated by NATO. He's saber rattling as he's aware he's old and dying and he wants to secure his "legacy" before he pops his clogs. He cocked that up and is unable to admit it.

Stop listening to news about it. It won't happen, but if it did, the first and last thing you'll know will be a blinding flash which you'd not have time to worry about. I've stopped reading the media as it's just aimed at scaring us.

I would much prefer it if we didn’t try and escalate things. Crackpot Truss and Boris are very keen for this. Why anyone would want to escalate this war I’ve no idea.

What’s your alternative? That we just let the Russians ride roughshod over Ukraine (and fuck knows where else) raping and pillaging as they do. I’m all for peace but not at any cost.
