To be worried about Russia's retaliations on the West?

fedupfufu · 21/02/2023 20:16

There was an LBC listener who called in and said that Russia will nuke the UK first as retaliation for giving Ukraine fighter jets. It wasn't too long ago that fighter jets were considered off the table by the US and the UK. There were also two people on an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast discussing this. The powers that be just seem intent on bringing us closer to nuclear Armageddon. Sometimes it seems like nobody will do anything until it's too late.

He is a schoolyard bully. He didn't get his own way and now he is going to stamp and wail. Of course it makes perfect sense that he invaded a sovereign nation, so it must be everyone's fault but his. If he tried to nuke anywhere, the retaliation would wipe him and the rest of Russia out. He is out gunned and out manoeuvred, so all that is left idea for him to take no responsibility.

Igotjelly that might be a better alternative, we won’t know what the outcome of this arms race/ proxy war is going to be. Fortunately I think Sunak is more level headed, also his wife is Indian and India are not keen on war escalation so there might be some influence there.

You honestly think letting them rape and murder innocent women and children is a price worth paying? Personally I don’t and find it quite disgusting that anyone does.

No one wants untold escalation but the actions of the Russians are absolutely abhorrent.

One day this could be yours child or mine and I hope to God someone would stand up for them.

Yet another thinly veiled pro-putin anti-zelensky thread.

You people are going to learn. Keep pushing people into a corner who have THEN have nothing to lose…

Your government has failed you into a false sense of reality/entitlement.

Please expand on what we are about to learn Eddy

What’s your alternative? That we just let the Russians ride roughshod over Ukraine (and fuck knows where else) raping and pillaging as they do. I’m all for peace but not at any cost.

Push for talks.

Yet another thinly veiled pro-putin anti-zelensky thread.

Is it not possible to be anti both?
I can hold more than one concept in my head at the same time Putin evil, Ukraine corrupt and Zelensky being pushed along by the worlds biggest war mongers the US.

Igotjelly · 21/02/2023 21:40

itwasntmetho · 21/02/2023 21:34

Push for talks.

Because Putin and his cronies are so well known for sticking to agreements that they’ve signed…

TheHateIsNotGood · 21/02/2023 21:49

Reminds me of being a 1970s teenager - it seemed to many of us that we were geographically in between two nutsoid superpowers who could push the button at any time.

So we went punk and 'no future'; but we survived that after all and Mr John Lydon does Eurovision and sold butter. He also appeared on Judge Judy as the Defendant and won which says it all.

bellinisurge · 21/02/2023 21:51

Not going to happen. I lived through the Cold War. They said shit like this virtually daily.

Greenshake · 21/02/2023 21:53

Igotjelly · 21/02/2023 21:19

No one is escalating this war except Putin. He and he alone are responsible for this.

This is the truest statement on here. There is no other aggressor. There is nobody else escalating it. This could all end tomorrow if Putin said so. Sick to death of these type of pathetic “mustn’t poke the bear” threads.

lljkk · 21/02/2023 21:54

It's good thing you gals weren't around 1947-1992

bellinisurge · 21/02/2023 21:55

Zelensky is doing whatever it takes to get his country back. He's not a fucking grifter. He's a politician so, like them all, he's not perfect. But the Russians thought he'd bail out and they'd walk in and that didn't happen.

didloswaggings · 21/02/2023 21:55

If putin was going to do it surely he wouldn't of broadcasted it first?!

Whammyyammy · 21/02/2023 22:04

It's sabre rattling. Its reported that the invasion and murdering of Ukrainian civilians has started to bite the average Russians economy.
Russia can't afford to keep commiting war crimes, where the civilised world are backing ukraine.
Putin needs an exit plan, he doesn't want to show face.

sending Russians into the meat grinder is costly for him both financially and politically

MySugarBabyLove · 21/02/2023 22:08

No war was ever resolved through combat alone. That’s the reality.

If this war is going to end, at some point there is going to have to be some negotiation. Otherwise the war will drag on indefinitely.

As for Putin, given the state of the rest of his armoury I think it’s safe to say that his alleged nuclear weapons are highly unlikely to be a threat, and while he can talk the talk, he knows that if he actually released any he would be a laughing stock and a prime target once he had proven beyond reasonable doubt that he had no working nuclear weapons.

Pretty sure WW2 was? Weren't Gernany forces into submission by driving then back to Berlin and Japan by bombing?

This is what happens when you get your analysis from people who phone into lbc.

It's not going to happen. We have a full year of evidence that Russia doesn't respond to the UK arming Ukraine with anything other than whining, and there's no reason why this particular red line would be the red line when nothing else was.

Push for talks.

How do you suggest we push for talks with a country that lies, breaks all its promises and was swearing blind it wasn't going to invade Ukraine no more than 3 days before ... it invaded Ukraine?

Who has worked long and hard to ensure that Brexit happened and interferes in UK and US politics?

Who funds trouble makers so that they attack peaceful people - Russia funded the Donbas trouble makers, you know, the ones who shot down the civilian airliner MH13?

Who assassinates people in the UK?

This.

Why should he roll over and surrender his democratic country to a dictator like Putin. The Ukrainians are fighting for their country they aren't being conscripted and made to fight as the Russians are. The Ukrainian people do not want Russia to rule them. Their choice.

Listening to some people talk they should just roll over and give up to the Russians and all would be good - only it won't be. Why are some people unable to see that Putin is a dictator? A thief of assets from his own people? A liar? Why the excuses for him?

Sure, negotiate when Russia has been pushed back to its borders.

Anyone who's looked into Russia's history in the last years can see that they have pushed, and pushed, and pushed and pushed to see how far they can get, leaving hundreds of thousands and possibly (if you include Afghanistan) millions of civilian dead.

He and his advisors have said they want to take over more Eastern European countries.

If they aren't driven back and shown that bullying won't get them any further than it already has, they will just keep on.

They'll try anyway, but a good hard sharp check will keep the West safer from them for longer.

Whammyyammy · 21/02/2023 22:33

I'm surprised at the amount of pro russian support on MN on threads similar to this.

Who in their right mind supports a nation that invades, murders and rapes its neighbours.....
