People who have no social media

I find it intriguing.

Just started working for someone new, was having a nosey looking for them on social media. The man isn’t on it at all, can’t be found, zero when typed into Google, the woman has a Fb profile that looks like from a long time ago, with 29 friends…that’s it, nothing else.
Does anyone find that unusual, or if you’re like this, why?
They are youngish, late 30’s, professional, good looking etc..these type of people usually have the lot on Sm.

I just find it intriguing

I only have Instagram.

TheSnowyOwl · 10/02/2023 21:15

What social media have you searched on? I don’t think it’s unusual for people under 40 not to use Facebook, have made up names for Instagram/Twitter/TikTok and not be readily identifiable on their social media as a result.

Whyisitsodifficult · 10/02/2023 21:16

I have no social media, I like the fact if you Google me you won’t find me!

considerablycuntierthanyou · 10/02/2023 21:16

My FB is locked down as much as possible, but I'm active on LinkedIn but don't share private life. No other stuff that can be connected to my real life. MN doesn't count.

SpinningFloppa · 10/02/2023 21:16

I have no SM

WaddleAway · 10/02/2023 21:16

Why intriguing? More and more people I know are realising it’s a waste of time and coming off it. I have an Instagram account I last posted on a year ago and that’s it.

Isbemorelikemeandbelesslikeyou · 10/02/2023 21:16

@TheSnowyOwl Instagram, Fb, Linkedin

OhDeniseReally · 10/02/2023 21:17

@Whyisitsodifficult me too, and I love it! Best decision I ever made! 😊

UB40andaglassofwine · 10/02/2023 21:18

I don't have any social media. I like not having any SM. I deleted my Facebook and instagram about 7 years ago.

Isbemorelikemeandbelesslikeyou · 10/02/2023 21:18

@WaddleAway Yes, I’ve been gradually getting more bored with it for around half a year. But this is just no Sm at all, by the looks of it, nothing job wise, nothing to come up on Google…I mean, it seems like quite a nice way to live. I was just surprised I think as I’ve never seen that before, it’s mysterious

I know loads of people with no social media! It's surely not that unusual?

2crossedout1 · 10/02/2023 21:18

DH isn't on social media at all.

Quveas · 10/02/2023 21:19

I have no social media. Why? I have a life, I have friends, and we do stuff in real life. We have no need of technology to be sociable

Perhaps to avoid people like you having a nosey for them and invading their private lives?

I know several people who own their own businesses who use completely different names on social media to avoid having any association with their business.

I know quite a few others who have taken themselves off social media completely. I have accounts but rarely use them now

tillyoumakeit · 10/02/2023 21:20

I don't have social media any more. I'm on linked in but haven't updated it for literally years. I've deactivated my FB and I think Instagram (if I haven't it's not been updated/active for years). It's incredibly freeing giving it up! I don't miss it.

Quveas · 10/02/2023 21:20

Oh and plus... nosy people can't go delving into my private life when it's none of their business

donttellmehesalive · 10/02/2023 21:21

All four of my dc are in their 20s and don't use any sm. some people have no interest in telling anyone outside their circle of real friends all about what they are up to, or seeing what acquaintances, old school friends and influencers are up to.

JudyGeller · 10/02/2023 21:21

I’m early 30’s with no social media at all, deleted everything about 7 years ago and it’s the best thing I have ever done tbh!!

^ this

Personally I have people I pay to keep me out of search results, but I agree no one under 50 is on Facebook, and you wouldn’t find most people on Instagram etc by googling for them due to usernames and private profiles.

AlwaysWorriedAboutEverything · 10/02/2023 21:22

I can't be arsed with social media anymore and got rid of Facebook and Instagram about seven years ago in my early 30s. I found that looking at people's gazillion selfies wound me up. I also didn't feel the need to share my life with acquaintances, but I am quite a private person anyway so that's just me. I don't miss SM at all, and I have so much more time for MN now. 😁A lot of the people I know have quit SM so it's not unusual in my circles.

Teeshirt · 10/02/2023 21:22

I am not on social media - no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn. Nor is DH. I think it’s quite common. I am, however, considering joining Facebook to join a support group, and this is how they communicate. But it would only be for that purpose.

MonsterRehab23 · 10/02/2023 21:22

I’m mid 30’s and I have a very low social media presence. I live a low key life and like my privacy.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/02/2023 21:23

On LInkedIn but no idea why because I haven't used it, haven't used FB for about 3 years and Twitter since last September. This is probably the only SM site I use.

5foot5 · 10/02/2023 21:23

I don't find it at all surprising.

I don't have Twitter or Instagram, they don't appeal at all.

I am probably on LinkedIn as I set up an account about 10 years ago in anticipation of being made redundant. Then I got another job so didn't bother with it again. Retired now so definitely not using it.

I have a Facebook account which I only use very sporadically. Probably less than 20 fb friends.

DH is even less active than me.
