To think this ‘valentines’ m&s meal is rubbish?

Would you be disappointed with this as your valentines ‘cheap’ meal? When you ask for steak, asparagus and escalopes and come back with this instead 🙄think the main is horrendous.

Do you mean Scallops OP?
I don’t think that’s awful but needs some salad or green veg

No, there are two escalopes in the picture yet no scallops.

I think that’s the point. I assume the OP wanted a scallop starter, steak main course (with asparagus). But she got a prawn cocktail starter, a chicken escalope (plus potatoes), plus a cheesecake dessert.

LTB

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 17:06

I'm not sure where people are getting the 'it's all beige crap' from.

There's one breaded option, which you'll see on plenty of reasonable restaurant menus.

Not the healthiest, no, but it's supposed to be a treat meal.

Well then that’s their own fault for asking for the wrong thing isn’t it? It’s not clear actually what the situation is. But I’d refer to the things she got as escalopes. If she’s sent her husband out for that then I’d say that she’s at as much fault as him.

This is Lidl's offering. It could be worse 🙊

Ah, the epic 2023 scallops / escalopes mix up.

Only on Mumsnet

knittingaddict · 10/02/2023 17:11

Haven't read the thread, but I would be so disappointed with that. It's not even the best kiev in M and S. Apart from the dessert that meal would be a no effort, mid week meal for us. I cook better on a daily basis as 50% of our main meals are Gousto.

Moveoverdarlin · 10/02/2023 17:12

I agree the main in particular looks rank.

knittingaddict · 10/02/2023 17:14

I knew there would be a tonne of posts saying that it looks nice and op should be grateful. 😁

So no context from the op then?

knittingaddict · 10/02/2023 17:15

Ah cordon bleu, not kiev. Even more upsetting.

maybe...those people think it looks nice?

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 17:16

So we still don't know how this heinous mix up occurred?

knittingaddict · 10/02/2023 17:17

So many questions going sadly unanswered. 😥

Hate threads like this.

It is basically a giant chicken nugget.

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 17:19

You know here in ROI, we don't even get the wine anymore. 🥲

No. Read the label.

LIDL do not have a valentines meal deal. These ice cream cones are £2.49. So they may not appeal to you, but they are cheap.

With cheese in, surely?

Haven't had a cordon bleu since the 80's. Genuinely didn't know they still made them.

TheKeatingFive · 10/02/2023 17:22

Cheese and ham

sodabreadjam · 10/02/2023 17:22

That looks a bit industrial and the packaging makes it appear “cheap”. I can see you would be disappointed if you had ordered steak and scallops. Hope it tastes nice.

We went into Tesco’s today and picked up their £12 Valentine’s meal deal.

We chose veggie moussaka for two, dauphinoise potatoes and chocolate salted caramel puddings. What made it a real bargain was the Prosecco - it is Tesco’s Finest and usually costs £10 on its own. I was impressed.

Sorry you are right, it is stuffed with ham and cheese. Seems like a 1970s dinner offering.

Madcats · 10/02/2023 17:25

As far as breaded chicken breast stuffed with cheese and ham goes, ours was okay.

Aquael · 10/02/2023 17:25

OP are you disappointed because that's all that you were able to get? Or did you choose those from lots of other things.

I was in M&S today and mine had everything. Lovely Scallops St Jacques, steaks, BIG packs of very nice looking asparagus, lots of nice sides and desserts. It all looked lovely and depending on what you choose, it would be an amazing value.

ItchyBillco · 10/02/2023 17:25

What’s ‘horrendous’ about it?
