I have a very unusual name which I dislike.
I know the names I am considering for DD2 are ‘common’ but I love them.

I love Florence and Flo/Florrie

I love Matilda and like Tilda / Tilly/ Matty

Love Penelope but not pen/penny/nelly

I do love Rose but wonder is it enough ???? I had considered Primrose but not sure !!!!!

What do you think?
please help as baby arriving asap!

I have always loved Emilia but worry there are too many!

I vote for Florence, my grandmother’s name

SinkingSwim · 27/01/2023 16:21

Florence

Nixynic · 27/01/2023 16:22

I have a Florence, I love it.

LaLuz7 · 27/01/2023 16:22

Matilda and Penelope are great

Marmite27 · 27/01/2023 16:23

Glances to the children to my right. Sees Penelope & Matilda….

I’d go with either of those Grin

girljulian · 27/01/2023 16:24

I love Rose -- simple, elegant and timeless.

I hate all the others!

EyebrowChallenge · 27/01/2023 16:24

They're all lovely.

I don't think you can avoid shortenings with Penelope so maybe drop that one if they bother you.

My favourite is Rose. Definitely enough and a much stronger name than Primrose.

AllTheAll · 27/01/2023 16:24

Love Penelope and you don't need to nickname her but be warned her friends and others might!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/01/2023 16:25

I like Matilda. It would sound good with one of the others a middle name

holierthanthou73 · 27/01/2023 16:25

Florence

PrimrosesandPears · 27/01/2023 16:26

They are all nice. I would choose Matilda Rose.

I actually like Penelope best of your options but if you don’t like Pen or Penny it’s a bit risky as one of those nicknames might evolve.

user1469032438 · 27/01/2023 16:26

If you don't like Penny then not penelope because it will probably get shortened.

All the other choices are fine, can't you wait for baby to arrive and then decide?

I picked my babies name early and then spent the first 8 weeks hating it but feeling like I couldn't change it because that's what I'd told everyone she was going to be called. She should have been a Sophie, a name i hadn't even considered until she was born! I have made peace with it now and love DD and her name but part of me still feels like I chose wrong (she is 5 now!)

WindscreenWipe · 27/01/2023 16:28

We chose Matilda for if our eldest were a girl but he was a boy. By baby number 2, Matilda was very, very popular so we middle-named it. Out of your options, I’d like Florence the best but personally, I like Flora is nicer.

CruCru · 27/01/2023 16:29

Penelope will get shortened. If you hate the shortening then don’t use it.

Matilda is lovely but can be very popular (depending on the area you live in).

Florence is nice and you like the shortenings. Do you also like Flossie?

Rose is also nice. Do you like Rosie? Because she may get called that (even if she doesn’t like it).

rothbury · 27/01/2023 16:44

Rose

Dont like any of the others

mathanxiety · 27/01/2023 16:44

Matilda - Matilda Rose would be lovely.

Love the nicknames for Matilda too.

Second place - Penelope. Penny is nice imo but if you don't like it you're in for a lifetime of making cat's bum faces.

stopringingme · 27/01/2023 16:48

Florence Rose
Or
Matilda Rose

Sapphire387 · 27/01/2023 16:56

I have a Rose and a Matilda!

Rose is short for Rosamund - we wanted her to have options. She's normally Rose, won't answer to Rosie.

Matilda is normally Tilda.

emmathedilemma · 27/01/2023 16:57

YABU for not posting this on the Baby Names forum but Florence

smoosandsmed · 27/01/2023 16:59

I have a Penelope and the name definitely gets shortened so don't use that. She's pen, penny, penhen, penwoo, Nelly....

DaveyJonesLocker · 27/01/2023 17:01

I like all of them, primrose over rose though.

mrstnov13 · 27/01/2023 17:02

They are all lovely names but as a nursery worker, thought I'd let you know that Florence and Penelope are veryyyy popular.

mallardducks · 27/01/2023 17:04

I vote Penelope

Orangebadger · 27/01/2023 17:06

Matilda is my favourite but love Emilia more and I don't see many about where I am.
