To think nobody truly does this with their cutlery?

I've just seen a post on the "Very British Problems" Facebook page, which says that some people don't use a divider in their cutlery drawer, they just chuck everything in!

This can't be true.

YABU - Cutlery dividers are pointless and a cutlery free for all is the way forward.

YANBU - People who don't use a cutlery divider are disturbed and an intervention is required.

drawer full of sporks is the galaxy brain approach

PerilousErection · 22/01/2023 17:03

My brother does this. He lives alone. I don't know if the two are connected 😁

My son tried this at uni and I next day Amazon Primed him a cutlery tray.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 22/01/2023 17:03

Might work if you only have one of each item but otherwise you'd spend ages fishing out the wrong things.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/01/2023 17:04

My mother and my aunt keep cutlery in a pit on the side!

Mummieslncorporated · 22/01/2023 17:05

Meh. I grew up in a house that had everything bunged in a drawer any which way. It's really not that difficult to find what you need.

Coffeellama · 22/01/2023 17:05

I have a cutlery divider but I still just chuck it all in there, they all sit in the divider but spoons forks and knives all in mixed compartments. Sorry!

AnyRandomName · 22/01/2023 17:05

We did this once, it was actually very efficient as you just dumped the entire cutlery holder from the dishwasher in there.

The minimal time taken to fish out what you needed was less than the time saved from sorting it into sections.

I miss my free spirited approach to cutlery now that I'm confined to an insert tray.

WeAreBorg · 22/01/2023 17:05

I don’t think it’s possible to function without a cutlery tray. I’m astounded there are people out there who live like this!

watcherintherye · 22/01/2023 17:07

It really annoys me when, despite having cutlery dividers, dh invariably puts cutlery in the wrong compartment!!!? Does he not notice? Maybe he doesn’t care?

TheGuv1982 · 22/01/2023 17:10

Borderline feral behaviour imo.

Stomacharmeleon · 22/01/2023 17:10

They never stay in their compartments so perhaps it's the way forward...

Eastereggsboxedupready · 22/01/2023 17:13

Due to a controlling twat exh I only recently got a cutlery tray. When our house was chaotic and he was ordering me and dc around he would stand all importantly organising the tray. When I left him I defiantly didn't buy one!

Whyisitsososohard · 22/01/2023 17:13

I have my knives forks and spoons in a pot on the bench or an a shelf. It means they don't need sorting and don't sit in bits of food and grub that always seem to accumulate in cutlery drawers. I wash the pot out fairly often. So I suppose I kind of do what you describe but for solid reasons!

UrsulaPandress · 22/01/2023 17:15

The very first thread I ever posted on on here was
Knives Forks Spoons.

CoorieInByTheFire · 22/01/2023 17:15

I had a friend who used to empty the cutlery rack straight into a drawer, it used to make me feel very anxious. But then I have adhd and am autistic and I cope by having a very strict routine and a very tidy cutlery drawer.

determinedtomakethiswork · 22/01/2023 17:16

And what's worse, they don't put them in knives, forks, spoons order, left to right.

Your cutlery is alive? 🤔

Krakenes · 22/01/2023 17:17

I have a very long sideboard and my cutlery is all in dividers. Even down to different sized forks/knives/spoons all in their respective section!!

meemawsmoonpie · 22/01/2023 17:18

I DONT HAVE A DRAWER IN MY STUPID KITCHEN FOR CUTLERY. Not one 😭😭

PriamFarrl · 22/01/2023 17:18

I used to because our kitchen was so small that all crockery and cutlery lived in a drawer in a sideboard. The drawer was so small that I couldn’t find a divider to fit.

Tsk

The correct order is (L to R) teaspoons, spoons, forks, knives

I feel your pain. My last house had no drawers in the kitchen.

My mil does this.

I can't stand it. I tided it once and it was messy again the next time I went.

Drives me bonkers.
