To think nobody truly does this with their cutlery?

I've just seen a post on the "Very British Problems" Facebook page, which says that some people don't use a divider in their cutlery drawer, they just chuck everything in!

This can't be true.

YABU - Cutlery dividers are pointless and a cutlery free for all is the way forward.

YANBU - People who don't use a cutlery divider are disturbed and an intervention is required.

Knives are cutlery the rest are flatware.

I have cutlery hanging on a stand as we have absolutely no drawers in our kitchen. Feck knows who designed it, but it has been like that for 20 years this coming March (and god knows how many years before that as we just left the existing kitchen in). All I've done is replace the doors, cover the work tops in plastic wrap (marble effect) and painted them (along with the wall tiles). Don't understand why people need to constantly replace their kitchen.

I keep mine stood up in a jar/pot on the counter- like a pen pot- they don't need sorting and they are just fine.

When I was annoyed at my Dad, as a child, I would go into the kitchen and swap the order of the cutlery in the drawer divider. He was really particular about it and it drove him mad.

Haha sadistic! Love it!

We did this once, it was actually very efficient as you just dumped the entire cutlery holder from the dishwasher in there.

The minimal time taken to fish out what you needed was less than the time saved from sorting it into sections.

I miss my free spirited approach to cutlery now that I'm confined to an insert tray.

I put my cutlery into the dishwasher in sections so I can grab each type in one go and put them into the cutlery tray together.

And what's worse, they don't put them in knives, forks, spoons order, left to right.

Why would you do that? Surely you put them in the drawer in the order you would set a table! Forks, knives, big spoons, then teaspoons along the bottom so that they're quick to reach when you half-heartedly open the drawer when you want a cuppa.

FelicityFlops · 22/01/2023 19:43

Well my kitchen cutlery is most definitely divided between utensils, which is jolly useful when I open the drawer and automatically reach for things.
The silver is also divided into individual sections. It now lives in its own, special box, but even when it was in the dining-room dresser, it was "segregated".
I appreciate that I am "old-fashioned" but this is what I knew growing up and I see no good reason to change.

My mother and my aunt keep cutlery in a pit on the side!

A pit! That's quite extreme 🤣😉

Baconand · 22/01/2023 19:46

I couldn’t be friends with anyone that doesn’t divide cutlery. No chance.

We had no kitchen for 5 months but the first thing we bought was a cutlery tray to store the cutlery in on the table. I lasted 4 days with it all loose in a box.

If I am ever single again it will go on the list of my requirements on a dating profile.

crosspusscrossstitcher · 22/01/2023 19:48

I suppose if your diet consists of toast, cereal, pot noodle and take away...
🤷‍♀️

Twattergy · 22/01/2023 19:48

I'm really not the tidiest person but the idea of having a cutlery tray and yet still just throwing cutlery randomly into it has put my teeth on edge!

Nanalisa60 · 22/01/2023 19:48

Gives my palpitations just thinking about .

This is our structure. Long coffee spoons, serving spoons, other servers and kid cutlery also have their own sections.

whatthebejesus · 22/01/2023 19:50

No, they go forks, knives, large spoons and then teaspoons in the compartment which runs along the bottom.

@mydogisthebest is correct ^^

eatdrinkandbemerry · 22/01/2023 19:52

Meee I just chuck it all in🤣
Drives my other half insane but not enough for him to put it away off the drainer 🤷‍♀️

I have a very long sideboard and my cutlery is all in dividers. Even down to different sized forks/knives/spoons all in their respective section!!

Same here!

Or for the everyday ones, they are neatly stacked where they have to share space

Belladonna208 · 22/01/2023 19:57

Sports are definitely the future. Maybe with a small sharp dagger like knife for cutting and spearing meat, if you eat it.

Belladonna208 · 22/01/2023 19:57

Sporks not sports!!!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 22/01/2023 20:07

I have a very lovely cutlery drawer. It’s built in to my new kitchen and is hidden at the top of one of my wide kitchen drawers. I almost need more cutlery to fill it. 😂

DailyMaui · 22/01/2023 20:09

I have two of these really wide double pan drawers with inside cutlery drawers. I never bothered ordering the inserts and now everything is in there - one big utensil drawer, one big cutlery/measuring spoon/cheese stabbing things/special spoons/weird forks drawer. Everything in the utensil drawer is arranged in size order from microplaners/tall utensils down to peelers. Everything in the cutlery drawer is laid out nicely like soldiers... knives, forks, spoons, teaspoons, dog spoons and above them are whatever other shite we have. It works fine. In contrast to my mum's cutlery drawer which has a divider but is anarchy.

But then I have a dedicated "product" drawer in my kitchen which holds: serums, facial oils, moisturisers, eye creams, perfumes, face tan mist, hair serum, toothbrush and toothpaste etc etc. My mum thinks that is both bold and unacceptable. They are not in dividers either.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 22/01/2023 23:34

@meemawsmoonpie I also have a kitchen without one sodding drawer so my cutlery lives in a thing in the side. Bloody annoying. Who designed a kitchen with no drawers???
