To think nobody truly does this with their cutlery?

I've just seen a post on the "Very British Problems" Facebook page, which says that some people don't use a divider in their cutlery drawer, they just chuck everything in!

This can't be true.

YABU - Cutlery dividers are pointless and a cutlery free for all is the way forward.

YANBU - People who don't use a cutlery divider are disturbed and an intervention is required.

Knives, forks, spoons. That has to be 20 years ago now?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/01/2023 19:11

I have 2 cutlery drawers <preens>

One has :
Nig serving spoons , forks, knives, dessert spoons, soup spoons , teaspoons at the bottom
Other one:
sharp knives, long spoons (latte/ice-cream) cake forks+sporks, jam spoons, butter knives then loads of random teaspoons

Runcible Spoon -is that the same as a spork ?

I bought this set 23 years ago (it cost me a fortune at the time, so I thought!) and have used it every day and it still looks new (and organised so beautifully in my drawers, so I notice immediately if any piece is missing and go on a hunt for it ...)

I even have a cutlery divider in my horsebox. Only have 4 of each in the sections but means the very important corkscrew is on the side so it never gets lost!

SunshineAndFizz · 22/01/2023 19:17

People exist in the world without a cutlery divider?! Say what. I've heard it all now.

Next you'll be saying you just throw your clothes into any old drawer.

stayathomer · 22/01/2023 19:20

I’m not even an organised/tidy person and this horrifies me!!!

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 22/01/2023 19:20

@Eastereggsboxedupready omg my abusive ex did that too!! I thought it was an unusual one, but he's come home and spend an hour re arranging/fannying about with it then go ballistic at me for not doing it right!!

verabarbleen · 22/01/2023 19:21

We moved in to our new place in June and the drawer is smaller than the usual drawer! We have just been chucking it in 😂 i desperately want to get a tray but I'm too lazy to measure and figure out what size tray to get. I will do it though! Soon....

StillWantingADog · 22/01/2023 19:21

My dm is a free for all kind of lady which drives me nuts.
and she tells me (not sure this is true) that her sister gets the basket out the dishwasher and just flips it upside down above her cutlery drawer!!!! 😨

OxfordDog · 22/01/2023 19:23

I wish I could have a cutlery divider, but the only drawer in my kitchen is so narrow that I can't find one to fit. Even the adjustable ones, or ones that say they are for narrow drawers, are too wide. It's a tough life...

I've got a tray but I couldn't give a monkeys about what other people do. Just as long as they call it cut-ler-ee and NOT cuttle-ree!

And don't use cutlery as a blanket term to encompass FLATWARE!

Interestingly, and believe me I have spent a considerable amount of time reviewing all the options, the socks are arranged in a seasonal rotation system and the tights have their own area but not a drawer per se. But now you’ve got me thinking they need their own drawer…

But the fun you're missing when getting dressed in he dark 😁.
I bet when you go out you look positively - what;'s the word ( aah yes) - kempt.
^^

Hedjwitch · 22/01/2023 19:25

I have a divider but just chuck things in anywhere. All mixed up.

Emotionalsupportviper · 22/01/2023 19:27

ComeTheSpringLobelia · 22/01/2023 18:51

Agree. Once when I was newly married my mother rearranged my cutlery order.

I said nothing. (But subsequently discovered that the plastic inserts are fine in the dishwasher and that cleans off bloodstains rather nicely).

You need to post this on the Handy Hints thread.

We know the best way to take flesh off a skull and bury a body as well as survive a bear attack - this would be welcomed for completeness, I'm sure.

Appleass · 22/01/2023 19:28

No cutlery divider ! Savages comes to mind !!

katepilar · 22/01/2023 19:29

Not all people keep their cutlery in a drawer. Is that even worse?

That’s beautiful. I want a set like that.

I didn't realise people lived without cutlery drawers, just how?!

Do you think that putting them in your drawers has made them curl at the end?

Thank you - it is from Culinary Concepts (and I bought the same set for my son this year for his 21st birthday as I wanted to give him something that would last forever 😍) It goes in the dishwasher every day and honestly still looks as good as it did 23 years ago.

SpaceJamtart · 22/01/2023 19:35

I keep mine stood up in a jar/pot on the counter- like a pen pot- they don't need sorting and they are just fine.

When I was annoyed at my Dad, as a child, I would go into the kitchen and swap the order of the cutlery in the drawer divider. He was really particular about it and it drove him mad.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 If I had known that I would have bought straight ones and waited ...
