Am definitely not wealthy and have friends who are financially better off than me ie flying to Maldives, cruising around Antarctica.
But I am humble about living in a house that is mortgage free and have the heating on if feeling cold .
I work in a care home 12hrs a week and have so much respect for everyone that works there 48 hrs and will always bring in treats etc .
Everything is relative to your own ‘normal ‘ am sure I have friends that think I live a frugal life v their life .

Jesus don’t ask mn about the wealthy. They’re All manky, with draughty houses and dog hair on clothes of mn narrative is to be believed

whereas my experience of wealthy is
Huge house in London, other property in Cotswold, Cornwall
Interest in object d’art and interior with money to make costly niche purchases
private schools
ski trips
expensive hobbies
gardener, nanny, dog Walker. Agency Chef and silver service for for functions

the mn stereotype is really overwhelmingly inaccurate

Norfolk also for the country pile.. Know a few wealthy londoners who pack up on a Fri & head to their parents mansion in Norfolk, kids in tow..

Those who have money and are happy to spend it are the backbone of our economy

@WaddleAway

The people who spend the largest proportion of their income are the poor. The poorer you are, the more of your income you spend. Wealthy people keep a much higher proportion of their income in investments and savings. Very wealthy people can live off this money and don’t need to work. Eventually a large chunk of this is invested money is inherited by their children who become rich without having worked for it.

It’s the poor who work hard and put money in the economy.

My comment was in relation to those disparaging the ‘nouveau rich’ who apparently spend all their money on flash cars, botox, clothes etc.

OP has learned everything she knows about rich people from reading Gormenghast...
(I type this from under a very tattered silken quilt, amidst the shards of priceless, jewel-like glass as the north wind howls through an oriol window )

[Note to self: develop less outing hobby.]

@IntentionalError yes, those! And : having their own swimmingpool, a sauna in the house, going hunting, and owning a second home in St.Yves 😊

queenofthebongo · 14/01/2023 13:06

I read this as cast iron pants and was howling, but then realised my mistake….a shame as the visual image in my head of wealthy people trying to walk in cast iron pants is really funny!!!😂

Sainte · 14/01/2023 14:01

Think the difference is also old money or new money.

seaweedhead · 14/01/2023 14:05

What a bizarre op. Is this some kind of thread generating bot?

mathanxiety · 14/01/2023 14:39

Well I have several cast iron pans, plus a nice big cast iron griddle. However, I clean them.

I also have a pasta roller in its original box.

Last time I went to the supermarket I passed the pomegranates and said, "Meh".

mathanxiety · 14/01/2023 14:41

Cast iron pants! Yes, that would really set one apart.

PurpleLoons · 14/01/2023 15:11

well, I read that as cast iron girdle. To go with the cast iron pants no doubt. Could be a bit scratchy if any rusting, also nasty orange strains. I wonder if posh people would use Pink Stuff to get them out? Or maybe is a posh person’s thing to use a wash board?

Dowhahdiddy · 12/01/2023 02:05

I would also like to know what T rexing in the supermarket is? All I can imagine a T Rex desperately trying to reach something on the top shelf and struggling with those little arms 😆

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I think of botox as like sunbeds and artificial tan and artificial nails, not a middle class thing.

New money thing.
