How do you dress your bed

I realise this is not a problem but just looking for ideas on how you all like to make your bed look inviting & luxurious. The ideas on the Internet are mind boggling.
If using a duvet do you like a top sheet under the duvet?
Do you prefer a king size duvet on a double bed
All this layering up with bedspreads, throws etc are a waste of time dh says, as he'll just kick them off onto the floor & then it's more work making the bed the next day.
Same with all the extra cushions. He just wants a bog standard duvet, 2 pillows & nothing else, but I want to be let loose & go a bit mad now he's redecorated the bedroom

I have everything on my bed. Long bolster pillow the full width of the bed, 2 super king pillows, 2 king size pillows, 2 big square cushions and a heavy throw at the bottom. Super king duvet on super king bed. I change it weekly and it’s so comfy to sleep in and sit up in with a book and coffee.

OP my opinion is have all the things.

We have a duvet and then a fleece blanket folded over the bottom of the bed to pull up at night if it's colder. One cushion if I remember to put it on the bed! Fed up with lots of crap to be taken off every night.
And a permanent cat asleep on bed whether it's made or not!

We just have a duvet and two pillows each, but there are also two smaller cushions that we can use if we want to sit up and read or whatever.

To me it's the bedding itself and the fabrics that make a bed feel luxurious, not the amount of tat balanced on top! I have the best quality mattress, pillows, duvet I can afford, extra touches like a sheepskin underlay, and the sheets/covers are pure linen or silk.

I can say I’ve never heard of duvets folded back to air out the bed, interesting. I’ve always had cats and dogs so the bed is always made with an easily washed blanket as a top layer.

I’m in the US so a little different. Both a top and fitted sheet are standard + a brightly colored bedspread. During the winter aesthetics go out the window so on to of the bedspread is a quilt. If company is coming over we pull off the practical blankets to show off the bedspread with matching pillow shams. The pillows in shams live on the dresser otherwise.

I’m more about comfort than looks, so good quality sheets (I like the sateen cotton ones) and good pillows (again I’m weird… old fashioned duck feather pillows , not down).

I have
Fairy lights on the headboard
Pillows
Bedding (either cotton or brushed cotton
Fitted sheet
Patchwork blanket folded at the bottom for my feet!

No cushions, add another throw if it's cold. I like mismatched patterned bedding

Our bed has got faffier recently.

We accidentally replaced our duvet with a lower tog one (4.5 rather than 9) a week before Christmas, so replacing it would have been a pain, so we have bought a coverless duvet as a bedspread to go over our low-tog duvet.

Our bed has:

Mattress topper.
2x memory foam pillows.
Stupid 4.5 tog duvet.
All white duvet cover, fitted sheet, and pillow cases.
Blue herringbone coverless duvet/bedspread.
Tartan blanket (shades of blue and amber) - because somehow the two duvets feel too light, even though they're warm enough.

It's a faff.

Only use high count cotton bedding. We had a king size bed but prefer our double as often sleep entwined. We use the king duvet on it which stops drafts at side when he nicks the covers.

We have one luxurious throw across bttm of bed for extra warmth and 3 expensive cushions put on for decoration and comfort if watching telly in bed.

Nat6999 · 08/01/2023 23:46

I have a top sheet because I hate changing duvet covers, a crocheted throw & my weighted blanket folded over the end of the bed & a fur throw over the bottom rail of my bedstead.

Nat6999 · 08/01/2023 23:50

Mine is a double bed with a king size duvet, I also have 2 king size pillows to prop me up to read or watch TV.

StrawberryWater · 08/01/2023 23:50

Just a duvet and pillows here (two each for me and DH).

I used to have to have cushions and throws but I got sick of having to do so much work to make the bed each day. I just want to get in and sleep.
