How do you dress your bed

I realise this is not a problem but just looking for ideas on how you all like to make your bed look inviting & luxurious. The ideas on the Internet are mind boggling.
If using a duvet do you like a top sheet under the duvet?
Do you prefer a king size duvet on a double bed
All this layering up with bedspreads, throws etc are a waste of time dh says, as he'll just kick them off onto the floor & then it's more work making the bed the next day.
Same with all the extra cushions. He just wants a bog standard duvet, 2 pillows & nothing else, but I want to be let loose & go a bit mad now he's redecorated the bedroom

I’m with your dh. I want a kip, not a dive into confectionery.

RambamThankyouMam · 08/01/2023 09:49

Who has time for that shit? Just a duvet and two pillows each.

IamSmarticus · 08/01/2023 09:49

I'm with your husband on this one, sorry! Just the duvet and a couple of pillows each. I do have a king-sized duvet on a double bed though.

Appleass · 08/01/2023 09:49

duvet and pillows, none of this stupid cushion business, just clutter to me.

MilkyYay · 08/01/2023 09:49

I do not give a shit about it looking luxurious! It's a bed.

Duvet. Pillows. Ordinary fitted sheet on the mattress. Everything else is unnecessary extra crap retailers market to us to make us spend more.

londonrach · 08/01/2023 09:50

Just pillows and duvet...why on earth you need anything else.

fairislecable · 08/01/2023 09:52

It is a bed therefore it already looks inviting.

Parker231 · 08/01/2023 09:52

Dress the bed? Duvet and pillows. Don’t need anything else.

MaryGubbins · 08/01/2023 09:52

I have a big velvet throw folded over the bottom of the bed. Pull it up in winter to keep warm but mainly as it hides the un ironed duvet cover.

OrdinaryAva · 08/01/2023 09:52

Ooooh no, not a pile of rubbishy old cushions that serve absolutely no purpose other than to clutter the place up.

Lordofmyflies · 08/01/2023 09:53

Sorry, but I agree with your DH. Keep it simple but best quality you can afford. The luxury is in the fabric not the amount of clutter.

SuperPup86 · 08/01/2023 09:54

My beds lucky if it gets made a couple of times a week and washed once a fortnight 😂

CecilyP · 08/01/2023 09:54

You see beds covered in cushions in pictures in home magazines but what do you do it’s them when you actually go to bed? In a small bedroom, they’d just be thrown on the floor. I’m with your husband! I do use a top sheet but not for aesthetics, just because I hate changing a duvet cover!

LongerThanADryJanuary23 · 08/01/2023 09:54

I'm with you OP, my bedroom is a little sanctuary.

The bed has the usual duvet & pillows - extras include a pretty bedspread, 4 cushions (textured and different shapes/colours) and a throw along the bottom

It's lovely 👌

Yes it takes an extra 30 seconds in the morning to put it together but I've got 30 seconds spare to do it 😅

Suziesz · 08/01/2023 09:55

I have a really good mattress and topper, feather duvet, a bedspread on top, latex foam pillows as there’s nothing worse than sad flat pillows or worse the ones that look all fluffy and comfy and your head sinks down to nothing. Then large square cushions, the bed looks great in the room, is really inviting and the cushions are ideal for when you want to sit up more in the morning with a coffee.
”bog standard” isn’t really someone I aim for in my home.
And lol that pillows, cushions and blankets were invented to make people spend more.

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 08/01/2023 09:55

As my old gran used to say of unnecessary extra crap ie cushions and ornaments “dust collectors “

Duvet and pillows. The end.

Smoom · 08/01/2023 09:55

I’d understand if you want a luxurious looking bed, if it would be standing in your living room, but I guess it doesn’t. Therefore I agree with your DH: I’d throw the extra stuff on the floor.

It is a bed therefore it already looks inviting.

Not really, a gross bed that isn’t made or regularly washed isn’t inviting at all.

Lagattolove · 08/01/2023 09:56

Super king bed with two double duvets in mismatched patterns with a throw over the foot for the puppy. Mightn’t look nice but it’s a happy set up.

VictoriaBun · 08/01/2023 09:56

The only ' dressing ' our bed has is a fleece baby blanket the cat likes to tread on before settling down to sleep with us.

Clicked on the thread to say this very thing.

Unglamorousgranny · 08/01/2023 09:58

Thank you, you've all convinced me to keep it simple but use the best quality we can afford.
And @MilkyYay I hadn't thought of it like that, as brain washing by the marketing people to make us spend more money on stuff we don't need 😀
