How do you dress your bed

Unglamorousgranny · 08/01/2023 09:46

I realise this is not a problem but just looking for ideas on how you all like to make your bed look inviting & luxurious. The ideas on the Internet are mind boggling.
If using a duvet do you like a top sheet under the duvet?
Do you prefer a king size duvet on a double bed
All this layering up with bedspreads, throws etc are a waste of time dh says, as he'll just kick them off onto the floor & then it's more work making the bed the next day.
Same with all the extra cushions. He just wants a bog standard duvet, 2 pillows & nothing else, but I want to be let loose & go a bit mad now he's redecorated the bedroom

Making a bed inviting?
😂😂😂

KnittedCardi · 08/01/2023 12:38

Nothing alarms me more in hotels than piles and piles of velvety cushions and throws all collecting the dust and skin cells of previous occupants.... bleurch.

Even in my own house, I just want clean, simple, 100% cotton duvet cover and pillows. Anything more is just a dust collector.

Robyn847 · 08/01/2023 12:39

Dress the bed? Oh give over. I'm falling into it exhausted at the end of the day, not taking it to meet my parents.

TangledWebOfDeception · 08/01/2023 12:40

One thing I really do miss is our quilted down mattress topper. Like sleeping on a cloud! But our bedroom in this house is too warm even with the window open so we can’t use it as we just get too hot.

MooseBreath · 08/01/2023 12:50

Top sheet (I am not British, so this is normal to me), quilt, a pillow each, and a wool throw at the end of the bed for when it's chilly!

LittleGreenDuck · 08/01/2023 12:56

Do I need to make it look inviting? Anyone I'm inviting into my bed isn't there for the cushions.

I have good quality mattress and bedding, always clean and bed made every morning. That's enough.

Hobbesmanc · 08/01/2023 12:57

I hate making the bed. But as well as two pillows each there's a few soft velvety cushion. No tassels or sequins etc. I like them to read in bed. Then toss them on the chair when lights go out.

We have a furry throw in the winter.

fairislecable · 08/01/2023 09:52

It is a bed therefore it already looks inviting.

Very much this. I have a king size duvet on a double bed, two pillows each and a quilt on top in winter. Electric blanket under sheet for extraneous warmth when required.

TangledWebOfDeception · 08/01/2023 13:11

My bed is genuinely one of my favourite places!

Coasterfan · 08/01/2023 13:12

Two pillows each a duvet and a fitted sheet on the bottom. I really don’t see the point of cushions and throws etc just to throw them on the floor every night then put them back on in the morning. It’s just making extra work!!

SocksAndTheCity · 08/01/2023 13:24

Always a top sheet (my grandma thought it was uncouth not to have one, plus it means I don't have to change the duvet cover as often 😀).

King size bed with king size duvet & mattress topper/fitted sheet, four pillows (although I only sleep on one) and a chunky knit blanket on top. My current favourite set is pure linen, which is lovely to sleep in but crumpled as fuck, and my second favourite is a plain white bamboo one - I can't sleep amongst patterned anything.

No cushions. They're a pain in the arse and I don't want my bedroom to look like a hotel.

ChocChipOwl · 08/01/2023 14:23

I have high thread count bedding or pure linen bedding. Always in white, never any patterns or colours. I have a pure silk throw in pale champagne colour which was very expensive but worth it as it looks amazing

And that's it. Don't like cushions or anything like that. I like very simple but luxe

PetitPorpoise · 08/01/2023 14:29

In winter i have a feather duvet which automatically makes it look quite marshmallowy. I also have feather top pillows, with much firmer bottom pillows. If I can be arsed, i like to stand these up when I make the bed.

Summer duvet is much thinner so looks good when pulled really tight.

inthedeepshade · 08/01/2023 14:37

I have a king sized bed and duvet, two pillows and a cushion on each side and a bedspread across the bottom of the bed to catch the cat hair look pretty.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/01/2023 14:53

Duvet and pillows usually dressed with my dog lying on top of his blanket.. inviting enough for me

DaftAporth · 08/01/2023 16:25

Suziesz · 08/01/2023 09:55

I have a really good mattress and topper, feather duvet, a bedspread on top, latex foam pillows as there’s nothing worse than sad flat pillows or worse the ones that look all fluffy and comfy and your head sinks down to nothing. Then large square cushions, the bed looks great in the room, is really inviting and the cushions are ideal for when you want to sit up more in the morning with a coffee.
”bog standard” isn’t really someone I aim for in my home.
And lol that pillows, cushions and blankets were invented to make people spend more.

I can't help reading this in a Hyacinth Bucket voice.

I don’t share my bedroom on social media. Why on earth would I? Confused I like sumptuous, comfortable things for me, and I like to surround myself with as much beauty as I can. Beautiful bedding makes me happy. Just like beautiful art does.

What a pointless post. You didn’t even describe what you have on your bed to make it ‘beautiful’.

harrassedmumto3 · 08/01/2023 21:15

I have a king sized bed, shared only with my small (non-shedding) dog!
I have a soft mattress protector with a fitted sheet over that, a king size duvet with cover on obviously, two good sized pillows, and a fleece blanket over the top (which the dog lies on).
I keep meaning to buy a king size sheet to go between me and the duvet, so that I don't need to change the duvet cover (my pet peeve) as often. I would make sure this was a brushed cotton sheet, so that it doesn't feel cold when I get into bed. However I never get round to buying this.

OoooohMatron · 08/01/2023 21:19

Duvet and pillows plus decorative cushions and a throw. DH thinks the cushions are pointless but I like them and I don't care. Home decor is not his department so he can roll hus eyes all he likes!

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 08/01/2023 09:55

As my old gran used to say of unnecessary extra crap ie cushions and ornaments “dust collectors “

Duvet and pillows. The end.

My mum used to call them 'dustarbras' which she also used to refer to ornaments, so i thought it was the name for decorative things, a bit like candelabra. I didn't realise until I was an adult she was saying dust harborer.😊

LoveCillian · 08/01/2023 21:31

We have a top sheet under duvet
Also have king size duvet cover,so much easier to put up n
Have throw and extra pillows,DH not a fan 🤣
love a nice bed

LoveCillian · 08/01/2023 21:35

All changed weekly,my luxury treat

mondaytosunday · 08/01/2023 21:44

Fitted sheet, duvet in a cover, couple pillows. That's it. Can't stand throws it extra pillows - they would just get chucked off and I'd never bother 'dressing' the bed in the morning. I don't go in to my bedroom during the days anyway.

Chipsahoy · 08/01/2023 22:03

Took me a few seconds to remove the cushions and pull up the comforter. 🤷‍♀️
It wasn’t exactly a chore.

Nice headboard, possibly a blanket if you get cold. Otherwise spent your time/money on the rest of the room. Fabulous art, spendy curtains, luxurious rug etc.
