How do you dress your bed

I realise this is not a problem but just looking for ideas on how you all like to make your bed look inviting & luxurious. The ideas on the Internet are mind boggling.
If using a duvet do you like a top sheet under the duvet?
Do you prefer a king size duvet on a double bed
All this layering up with bedspreads, throws etc are a waste of time dh says, as he'll just kick them off onto the floor & then it's more work making the bed the next day.
Same with all the extra cushions. He just wants a bog standard duvet, 2 pillows & nothing else, but I want to be let loose & go a bit mad now he's redecorated the bedroom

King size dduvetonna double bed.
Fitted sheet.
2 pillows per person, one matching Fitted sheet one matching duvet cover.
Waffle throw pulled half way up for the cat to sleep on so fur doesn't go on the duvet cover

WandaWonder · 08/01/2023 09:58

Team husband all the way

Inviting? It's a bed I want to be in it as soon as I can I don't care how it looks

Namechangeforthis88 · 08/01/2023 09:58

My friend works in a posh hotel where there is a strict rule that housekeeping staff never put the cushions on the floor while making the bed. When she mentioned this I said "They must realise that the first thing every guest is going to do is chuck the cushions on the floor themselves?".

I'm on team DH here.

CrunchyCarrot · 08/01/2023 09:59

Just a duvet (king size on double bed) and 2 pillows. No frills, no fuss! I focus on having duvet patterns/colours I really like.

GrumpyPanda · 08/01/2023 09:59

Team dh all the way. Duvet cover, pillows, finito. Left turned up during the day so it can air out. Maybe not Instagram-ready but considerably more hygienic.

StillWantingADog · 08/01/2023 09:59

Totally with your DH.
you must realise the cushions will end up on the floor?

occasionally stayed at posh hotels with the all the cushions and bedspreads and runners- what an almighty faff. I just want to get in ffs.

troppibambini6 · 08/01/2023 09:59

Super king bed, high count white bedding, four big fluffy pillows, I have a beige herringbone throw over the bottom, and four large cushions two are a beigey brown colour and two Berber style. My bedroom is my sanctuary and I like it this way.

Ginmonkeyagain · 08/01/2023 10:00

I hate all that extra stuff you get in hotel beds, it goes straight on the floor.

We just have a duvet and two pillows each ( I make sure the colours match or are complimentary). The exception is in Winter we have one of those heavy Indian woven cotton bedspreads over the lower 2/3 if the bed for extra warmth and to make sure toes don't get exposed at the end of the duvet.

Lovegossip · 08/01/2023 10:00

We have a superking bed with just a duvet 2 pillows for dh and 1 for me and the bed sheet, extra stuff on the bed doesn't interest me or dh

Soapnotshowergel · 08/01/2023 10:01

Just the duvet and two pillows each for us (and a fitted sheet on the bottom). And a pile of my husband's clothes because apparently that's where they live.

First thing I do is sling them in the wardrobe

Call me victor-ia meldrew, annoying dastardly things

StillWantingADog · 08/01/2023 10:02

Absolutely. One of our bedding sets is really lovely quality cotton and a joy to sleep in. I’d def spend more money on nice quality bedding than extra bits of clutter.

OceanbreezeSun · 08/01/2023 10:02

The less fussy the better!

I just want the bed to look comfy and cosy & not remove pointless cushions and runners on the bottom of the bed like you get in fancy hotels.

Bumblefuzz · 08/01/2023 10:02

This is my dog's end of the bed, if that helps, where he sleeps with one of my cats. There's a fluffy blanket next to my pillow for the kitten that likes to purr next to my head 😂

saraclara · 08/01/2023 10:02

I only go into my bedroom to go to bed (or at least if I did on any other occasion, it's not to look at my bed, its to rummage through the wardrobe or something). So why have all sorts of useless stuff on it that only gets in the way when you climb in?

My only extra is a folded throw across the bottom, that's handy to use as an extra layer when I first get in bed if it's a cold night. But it's soon moved off and it's lying on the floor in a heap when I get up.

SproutsLCerVEGNoEgg · 08/01/2023 10:04

In summer, absolute minimal. Fitted sheet, pillows, and either sheet/empty duvet cover, thin duvet in cover etc depend on the temperature.

in winter, similar options really as I get hot at night. At the moment I have a sheet with an empty teddy bear duvet cover, it's about right for me. I do have the duvet with another cover on, folded up in a chair in case I get cold.

plus I have A gorgeous winter cushion that leans on the pillows. That & the teddy bear duvet cover make the room look cisy without a ton of faff!

if I wasn't singularly heating the planet I'd just have the duvet under the teddy fleece cover.

in between seasons I do sometimes have a throw across the bottom of the bed which I like the look of, but it's practical as well
as ornamental.

I feel like I've got the maximum 'cosy look' with the absolute minimal fuss.

I'm too lazy to fuss about with things that are purely 'dress'. I've been through phases of 'lots of cushions' &/or several layered throws. But although it looks nice once done, they mostly ended up on the floor or on the chair.

IF you do something purely decorative, accept DH WILL JUST push them
off at night & don't expect him to faff about making it look 'just so' in the morning. You want the faff, you take responsibility for it 😁
& post us a picture!

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 08/01/2023 10:05

Two pillows and a duvet. Maybe a fleecy blanket on top if I'm cold, but it's got dogs on it and doesn't match the colours of the room. And a cat. A live one.

Bestcatmum · 08/01/2023 10:06

I dont. I work 6 days a week and don't have time for fripperies. If I have guests I'll put a large throw over it and two piles of towels at the bottom arranged artfully.

CovertImage · 08/01/2023 10:06

”bog standard” isn’t really someone I aim for in my home

And that kids, is what we call "supercilious"

HermioneWeasley · 08/01/2023 10:07

We fold our duvets back to air the bed. The thought of pulling duvets up over a warm bed and then loading it up with bedspreads and cushions is disgusting to me.

we have high thread count bedding and it feels like silk. It’s heaven to slip into bed every night.

SwordToFlamethrower · 08/01/2023 10:08

We have beautifully patterned duvet spreads with magical forest creatures on them. We have 2 pillows each plus a v shaped foam pillow too, so we can sit up in bed. I wouldn't want anything else as they are just trip hazards when you get up to wee in the night!

Littlewhitecat · 08/01/2023 10:08

Super king bed, duck down duvet/pillows, best quality high thread count cotton bedding you can afford. I only have white bedding as I also have a colourful home made quilt over the top in winter. I sew for fun, so every bed in my house has a quilt 🙂. No cushions because they just get chucked on the floor. I do iron all the bedding though which I know makes me a heretic on Mumsnet

LimeTwists · 08/01/2023 10:10

I think the less the better. Duvet in a cover, two pillows and a throw.

I bought two of these big pillows for sitting up and reading in bed and tbh they drive me mad and get in the way as I have to throw them on the floor before I go to sleep. I also bought this blanket and that gets used every single day and also as a super light quilt in summer. Any small cushions, bolsters etc are totally pointless as you can’t sleep with them in the bed anyway.

itwasboundtohappen · 08/01/2023 10:11

I love our bed, and every night makes me say "ahhh" as I settle in.

it's just a very very good deep mattress that we chose for us, probably too soft for others but is our perfect.

Good quality bed sheets/ duvet covers, in winter we have fluffy brushed cotton.(again not the cheap version)

2 good quality pillows each.

kingsize duvet on double bed, means no one hogging it, and it hangs over the bed nicely.

a throw which is put over the pillows and top part of the bed, to protect them from dog hairs as the dog loves climbing on the made bed and sleeping on the pillows.

we spent the 10 years of marriage on the cheapest most uncomfortable spring poking mattress ever, so I appreciate our bed so much now.
