How do you dress your bed

Unglamorousgranny · 08/01/2023 09:46

I realise this is not a problem but just looking for ideas on how you all like to make your bed look inviting & luxurious. The ideas on the Internet are mind boggling.
If using a duvet do you like a top sheet under the duvet?
Do you prefer a king size duvet on a double bed
All this layering up with bedspreads, throws etc are a waste of time dh says, as he'll just kick them off onto the floor & then it's more work making the bed the next day.
Same with all the extra cushions. He just wants a bog standard duvet, 2 pillows & nothing else, but I want to be let loose & go a bit mad now he's redecorated the bedroom

I'm pro cushion because I like to sit up in bed reading. It's cushion or ruin your pillows folding them.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/01/2023 11:37

I have a super king duvet on my king sized bed. I also have four cushions and a throw across the bottom. It looks lovely but isn't too much to take off and put on. Thankfully my DH likes it too.

How many cushions, though?! Interior designers seem to suggest that you have to cover every inch of the top of the bed with cushions!

I still don't get why people will fully make the bed and then put cushions on top of it. If you use them with the pillows when in the bed, why not keep them inside it with the pillows?!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/01/2023 11:42

Super king bed, 2 single duvets and a super king bedspread to make it look neat in the day with a couple of big cushions we use for reading.

purpledalmation · 08/01/2023 11:46

Tried the cushion nonsense. Eventually wondered why I was wasting time putting them on and chucking them off. Only for selling your house

EatYourVegetables · 08/01/2023 11:50

Two pillows and a duvet larger than the bed. If you want to go crazy buy a better quail duvet and pillows, and nice bedding. I want to be comfortable, not have 1001 bit to rearrange every morning and evening.

MasterBeth · 08/01/2023 11:52

I don't dress my bed. I have enough to do dressing myself.

Chouetted · 08/01/2023 11:55

Buy a nice bedspread that goes over the whole thing. I use a double on a single.

Pull it up when you make the bed (or to hide unmade bed). Fold it down when you sleep.

Job done.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 08/01/2023 11:58

Well, I like a nice made up bed. I’d post a picture but I’m still in mine Grin.

I prefer a thin duvet - ours is only a 4 tog - and have thin blankets I normally have half folded at the bottom of the bed but that at the moment are pulled right up. I have a memory foam pillow for sleeping but another normal pillow and a huge pillow for when I’m sitting up reading or for when I want a nap during the day. Yes I just throw them on the floor when not in use! The blankets I put in the cupboard when not in use. My kids also have a spare blanket and pillows although they tend not to make the bed too often!

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 08/01/2023 11:59

I hate all the overdressed beds in guest houses and hotels. The guest house we stay at regularly knows not to leave the bed cluttered with unnecessary cushions.

A proper candlewick bedspread here, plus the actual pillows we use, nothing else needed.

Somebatshitteryonhere · 08/01/2023 12:02

I like a bed to be dressed, ours does have decorative cushions on it that I move to a chair at night, and the spare beds all have cushions and throws

im really not getting the issue with putting them on the floor at night, lots of people even put their clothes on the bedroom floor and wear them the next day.

anyway, for me, yes I like to dress the beds.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 08/01/2023 12:02

Ok I got up for you @Unglamorousgranny Grin. This is mine. As you can see have some decorating to do! Also, I don’t iron and DH sleeps with both pillows so everything is wrinkly as hell. The pillow in front is my memory foam one with a silk pillowcase.

Buy the absolute best quality bedding, pillows, duvet and mattress you can afford.

FleeceDuvet · 08/01/2023 12:07

Best mattress we could afford, plus topper.

100 thread count fitted sheet.

Fleece duvet and pillows for winter (hence username).

Memory foam pillows on top of ordinary pillows.

Two cushions, DH sleeps with one under his legs to ease his back pain, I have one under my two pillows because I like to have my head up high. the cushions then go on top of the duvet as decoration.

im a bit of a slattern in general but weirdly always always make and dress the bed every day.

I love my bed.

I'm with your DP. I have enough to do without worrying about dressing my bed and then tripping over things on the floor when I get up for a wee in the night.

TangledWebOfDeception · 08/01/2023 12:10

I have two sets of a beautiful floral V&A duvet cover/pillow cases with matching bedspread and coordinating cushions. However I can’t use it as DH doesn’t like the feel of the bedspread on his feet at night, and he/I can’t be bothered to fold and unfold it every single day and move it back and forth onto the bed, so it’s going to be used for the guest bed when our guest bedroom is ready. 😞😞

However that means I get to buy more beautiful bedding for our bed. Yay!!

We also have our ‘reading pillows’ - big, square pillows that we use for comfort whilst reading/watching a film in bed.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/01/2023 12:10

No room for cushions and such, need to leave space for the cats.

frustratedashell · 08/01/2023 12:10

I have one cushion and a teddy!

trulyunruly01 · 08/01/2023 12:14

Usually we'd have no extras over and above duvet and pillows but at the moment we have a throw simply because we still have the Xmas duvet set on and I like the throw cos it makes the penguins look like they are in bed 🙄 they peep out the top of the throw.
And if anyone tells me I'm 55 and too old for the Xmas duvet set, well, bah humbug.
I'll change the bed tomorrow.

Volkswagenitalia · 08/01/2023 12:15

”bog standard” isn’t really someone I aim for in my home.

Handyweatherstation · 08/01/2023 12:27

No dressing of beds here. King size bed with super king duvet. Wool filled duvet and pillows. I look for good quality fabric in lovely colours and that's dressing enough for me.

Not our bed, but this is my current favourite bedding.

AdelaideRo · 08/01/2023 12:28

Mine is luxurious because of the fabrics used not the amount of stuff.

Down mattress topper, Latex pillows - 2 each -I prefer them over all others, High thread count fitted sheet and duvet cover. King Size down duvet (it's a double bed) that suits the season (so either 9 tog or 4.5 tog)
During transitional periods I often have the both parts of the duvet in a cover so you can mix and match over night as I often get really hot or cold.

Using two duvet covers does increase washing but I sleep much better.

For guests I have a choice of pillows (latex or synthetic) and duvet (down vs synthetic). Mostly because my SIL is allergic to down/ latex. Same sheets/ duvet covers I use.

I slept horribly over christmas at my brothers on a bobbly fitted sheet, with a single duvet on a double bed. They are just less bothered about stuff like that than I am - I know that they didn't give me crap stuff and their own bed is luxurious. (It's also not money their household income is multiples of mine).

RambamThankyouMam · 08/01/2023 09:49

Who has time for that shit? Just a duvet and two pillows each.

This. Who on earth sees your bedroom such that people need to dress them. Screams of social media oversharers.

Notjustanymum · 08/01/2023 12:32

We have fitted sheet, duvet, 1 pillow each and if it’s really cold, I’ll put a colour coordinated microfibre fleece throw across the lower half of the bed so it can be pulled up for an extra layer. The coordinating cushions are added to the armchairs, the rest are kept in the storage under the mattress. In the summer we use a night owl naked duvet, so cushions on chairs are changed to whichever ones (from a set of 3 pairs) I happen to fancy putting out!

TangledWebOfDeception · 08/01/2023 12:34

I don’t share my bedroom on social media. Why on earth would I? Confused I like sumptuous, comfortable things for me, and I like to surround myself with as much beauty as I can. Beautiful bedding makes me happy. Just like beautiful art does.
