to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

5'3 being average in the UK is a surprise. I thought at least from 5' 5.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/01/2023 19:05

Depends on your age... in my mothers generation (60s+) it would be very tall
Talker end of average in mine (30s)

Then just average in my daughters generation, who are not even teenagers yet but half of them are that height or taller already.

Average height is increasing!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 19:06

Im 5'5 but I'm the tallest woman in my family, mum, grandparents and aunts, my dd is 21 and 5'2. My favourite aunt was called Dot, she had size 1 shoe and she really was a dot 😂

Aldith · 07/01/2023 19:06

My sister and sister in law are 5ft 7 and my mum is 5ft 8 so no I wouldn’t consider you tall. I on the other hand am definitely short by a decent margin compared to the rest of my family. I’m 160cm or just under 5ft 3.

Christmascracker0 · 07/01/2023 19:06

I’m 5ft8 and always say I’m “quite tall”.

I know more women shorter than me than taller!

5128gap · 07/01/2023 19:06

Its taller than average and a lot slimmer than average. So 'big' isn't appropriate as a description. I'd imagine you as tall and willowy like a model which a lot of women would love to be.

cont · 07/01/2023 19:07

you are average height.

Are you fishing for compliments? I don't know how you can feel massive at 5'7. There's MANY women taller than u and they definitely don't look 'big' or 'massive'Confused

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 07/01/2023 19:08

I’m 5’ 9”. I love being quite tall.

dementedpixie · 07/01/2023 19:10

Average height for a female in the UK is apparently 5' 3" so you are quite tall compared to that. I'm around 5' 6" and a lot of the women I know are around my height or shorter. My dd is only 5' 4"

magicthree · 07/01/2023 19:10

I'm 5ft 7 and weigh quite a bit more than you and I don't feel like a giant! However, I'm not in the UK, so maybe we are taller here. I would quite like to be and inch or two taller tbh, especially as jeans are always slightly on the long side for me.

bridgetreilly · 07/01/2023 19:11

I think the average is shorter than most of us realise at about 5’4. But 5’7 is definitely not out of the ordinary. No one would particularly notice that height.

yubgummy · 07/01/2023 19:11

I'm much taller than that and I wear heels.

I find men are actually less intimidated by this in a way. They go "omg, you're so tall - ohh it's just because you are wearing heels, I see now!" even if the heels are like 2-3 inches high...!

PeekAtYou · 07/01/2023 19:12

My dd is 5 foot 7 and says that she feels really tall compared to her friends.

I am also 5 foot 7 and feel taller than average but not specifically tall. I would guess that average height was about 5 foot 5 irl.

That includes the older generations too though. Women are definitely taller these days.

I am 170 and most of my colleagues of similar age are shorter, some considerably. We are in our 30s approx. Even the ones in 20s are usually smaller

SignOnTheWindow · 07/01/2023 19:12

I'm 5 ft 7 and pretty average in my circle of female friends. Daughter's female friends are mostly taller than me.

QueefQueen80s · 07/01/2023 19:12

I'd say average, though I do see a lot of women shorter than me.

Coldilox · 07/01/2023 19:12

I’m 5’7 as is my wife. We have friends who are shorter and friends who are taller. It’s certainly not especially tall

cont · 07/01/2023 19:13

Id consider tall to be someone who stands out, maybe needs to buy longer clothes to fit.

I wouldn't look at a 5'7 woman and think that's tall. You wouldn't really look twice, anymore than you'd see a 5'2 woman and think that she's tiny-weeny

Deathbyfluffy · 07/01/2023 19:13

My wife is 5ft10 and it’s a great height - you’re not big.

You are what you are - enjoy it!

I would love to be your daughter's height. May she always embrace her splendid stature!

sweetdreamtennasee · 07/01/2023 19:14

you’re not tall enough to be a runway model if that helps

Dailymash · 07/01/2023 19:15

I’m 5’8” and never really feel tall unless I’m wearing heels. I have noticed whenever I’m stood next to a woman who is taller than me that I notice her height which possibly means that I’m usually taller than other women. It also makes me stand straighter which must mean I’m subconsciously slouching to make myself look shorter.

I’ve often had people call me a BIG GIRL which I hate because I’m not big, I’m tall. I’m not a girl either but that’s a whole other debate.

Haha, I read her post and thought 170 and she has colleagues the same age?

smileladiesplease · 07/01/2023 19:16

Half female? What do you mean?
