to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

I'm 5'11 I think I'm considered tall but I am often dwarfed by other women

Punctuation matters, folks 😂

It sure does on this thread!

Highlyflavouredgravy · 07/01/2023 18:57

I am 5' 11

I am big but not freakishly so i don't think?

MrsVeryTired · 07/01/2023 18:57

You're not "big" you are on the tall side of average (and at 9st v slim #jealous).

GrohlOnAPole · 07/01/2023 18:58

I’d probably describe you as fairly tall but certainly not a giant! Most women I’m friends with are 5’3” - 5’5” …. I’m 5’6” and pretty much the tallest.
my mum was 5’10” so don’t know why I’m so much shorter!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/01/2023 18:58

I'm 5'6" and I'd say I see equal numbers of women who are taller / shorter than me. I've never ever felt 'tall' or 'short'. I thought I was bang on average actually.

It’s average

Where?

5 foot 3 is average in the UK for women so op is taller than average if in the uk but I'm the same size and don't feel all that tall.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You gave them eyes Lord, but they do not see...

Time for a namechange Portia. And a comprehension course.

Idlechitchat · 07/01/2023 18:59

I’m the same height as you OP and have lots of female friends that are taller than me. I sometimes feel tall if I’m wearing heels and standing next to someone shorter, but certainly not like a giant! We all come in different shapes and sizes ☺️

SallyWD · 07/01/2023 18:59

I also 5 ft 7.5 and I'm definitely taller than 90% of my friends. I do have a couple of female friends who are over 6 ft. I realise I'm not exceptionally tall but 5 ft 7 is tall for a woman. I just googled "average female height UK 2022" and apparently its 5 ft 3! I'm surprised! I thought it was about 5 ft 5. So yes we are 4 inches taller than the avarege woman.
I have noticed though that younger women are getting taller. I live in a studenty area and there are often young women who are much taller than me. I'm definitely feeling shorter than I used to!

I was going to say the same thing. I'm 5'6" and feel about average. I wouldn't count 5'7 as tall at all. It's completely unremarkable.

meganorks · 07/01/2023 19:00

For everyone getting upset about 'half female' I'm pretty sure OP means '5 ft 7 and 1/2 inches'

Exactly!! Was obvious to me

piedbeauty · 07/01/2023 19:01

You're a couple of inches taller than average but very slim, and in no way a giant!!!

Azulocean · 07/01/2023 19:01

I’m 5’7, always felt “tall” and paranoid about wearing heels when younger. Late 20’s went out with a friend and wore flats as she’s only 5’5, and met up with our other friend who took us to a gay bar. I couldn’t see over peoples heads and felt so small, absolutely hated the feeling. Have felt very grateful for my height ever since!

oh and I still get asked for get things down from the top shelves for others and it dawns on me I should be very grateful for my height….long body…legs are that long really but hey can’t have it all ha ha

Cuppasoupmonster · 07/01/2023 19:01

Well it isn’t average, 5ft4 is average so yes you’re a few inches taller than that. Kids are getting taller all the time though so I do wonder how reliable the statistics are. I’m 5ft8 and really like it, tall but not taller than most men if you see what I mean.

Twizbe · 07/01/2023 19:01

I'm 6ft so no, not that tall.

That said I don't feel as obviously tall as I did when I was younger. The internet has definitely made clothes shopping easier.

GeneticallyModifiedGrump · 07/01/2023 19:02

I'm just under 5'10 and most definitely plus sized....compared to me you would look relatively small.
I guess if you stand next to someone who is 5'3 and weighs 7.5 stone you will look much bigger.
It's all relative and fairly pointless worrying, as far as I know there isn't a surgery to take inches off someone's height.

Ineedabloodybreak · 07/01/2023 19:02

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 18:49

What do you mean 'half female'?

I read that three times and then realised 😂
I'm almost 5ft 7 and how I wish I was a little taller. Just a bit.

Then again I must be thankful for being 5ft 6. I love wearing high shoes so I can fake being tall.

I think many would be jealous of you OP!

That includes the older generations too though. Women are definitely taller these days.

Have a medal then as it honestly did not first read like that lol

HitMeWithAHotNoteAndWatchMeBounce · 07/01/2023 19:03

5’7” ?

What a bizarre height to get fixated about.

I have two inches on you and freely wear heels.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 07/01/2023 19:03

Ooh, I'd love to be 5'7" or taller! Join a netball club, you'll feel tiny then
