to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

What do you mean 'half female'?

That comment has honestly had me in fits of laughter for ages

Depends on where you are and who you are with. I’m 60, 5 ft 9.75ins and most of my life I’m stooping in photos with contemporary aged female friends. 10 yrs ago I was the smallest in a tall office of folk 10-20 yrs younger. Just now I’m taller than all 4 in my office of 2 men and 3 women, various ages. I’m taller than my only sibling - 10 years older - and possibly my abiding view is that I am what he calls me “my not so little, little sister”.

Comtesse · 09/07/2023 00:20

I’m 5 ft 10 and my 13yo DD is about 5ft 9. I don’t think 5 7 is very big at all. Think you’re making a bit of a fuss about nothing, sorry…..

Rossannah · 09/07/2023 00:24

No you are not. I'm 6 foot and I'm on the taller side of uk average women although I've never felt uncomfortably so. I grew up in Singapore where I was an actual giant

Manasprey · 09/07/2023 00:44

I wonder if a lot of this depends where you live. I'm 5'9 and a giant of a woman here. Have felt massive all my life, even though people tell me I'm slim. But most men round here are of the short, stocky, bald variety. The only woman I know of comparable height to me is Scandinavian.

Wow at the self-deprecation there. Should other 5' 7 women run and hide in shame?

I think 5'6 to 5'8 is considered average height for women but it depends who you're around. You could be the tallest or shortest amongst people you see everyday or right in the middle.

5ft 3 is the average.

So yeah 5ft 7 is tall

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 09/07/2023 02:34

5ft7 is not tall. Its taller than average for this country but it is not tall in general

Naddd · 09/07/2023 02:45

Misread that! Thought you wrote half female!! 🤣😂 Wondered if this was a new thing now!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 18:49

What do you mean 'half female'?

"Seven and a half" I think, as in her height.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/07/2023 07:12

Average is closer to 5 foot 5 now. Women have really got taller over the past few years.

I'm 5 foot 7 and when I was a teenager and early 20s I barely ever saw a woman taller than me but now I see loads.

I also mostly buy standard length trousers now, but when I was younger I had to buy long length and they were often slightly too short.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/07/2023 07:45

I’m 5’ 7” and have never felt too tall.
‘Big’ is more often used to mean ‘fat’ nowadays, since the F word has become less acceptable.

Sceptre86 · 09/07/2023 07:55

if 5ft 4 so yes I would say tall. A quick Google says that the average woman is 5ft 4 in the uk so you are taller than average. That isn't a bad thing by any means.

Hoistupthemainsail · 09/07/2023 08:50

I also wanted to know what a "half female" was! Had to read it a few times. Hahahahaha.

CTSG · 14/06/2024 02:28

Yes, statistically speaking 5’7” is tall for a woman, but it is not a monstrous proportion; girls on avg will max their height by 14-16+, with a general range of 5’-5’6”. Even women who stand in the men’s average percentile (5’8+) are still considered to simply be “tall”, it is when you get in their upper average or higher (5’10-6’+) that you are truly considered a “Giant”

Mummadeze · 14/06/2024 05:15

I am 5 foot 7, weigh 13 and a half stone, don’t feel big at all, just normal size. I would look emancipated at 9 stone, but understand everyone is different.

Noirdesir · 14/06/2024 05:21

No- I am 5'10", did some modelling in my youth, and whilst I was self conscious as a teen, I love it now.

My son is 16 and I had to go to school recently for parents evening and I saw loads of girls there who were a similar height to me- people are definitely getting taller in general.

northernballer · 14/06/2024 05:47

I'm the same height and weight as you, totally average.

ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH · 14/06/2024 06:03

as im 6ft with 36 inch legs and got to that height by age 11
that's short to me
ive been tall as long as i can remember
i was 27 inches born and head and shoulder above everyone else my whole childhood

i was still in last year of primary and already 6ft but i haven't grown since
my

all my life i towered over everyone,
but the last 10 years ive noticed a lot of young people taller than me

my 19 y old son had a 18 y old female friend that's 6ft 2

my moms 4ft 10(no idea how my mom birthed me) my sister 5ft so I've always been massive compared to them

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/06/2024 06:05

You would be tall in my main circle of friends but I wouldn’t say you were a giant.

5’7.5 is above average height for a woman in both Germany and the Netherlands. So, no, it’s not “small” in either of those places.

It’s the average height of all women though. Young people are taller generally. I did an Erasmus year in the Netherlands and at 5 11” I fit right in. It was great to just be able to buy clothes everywhere. In the UK I was hunting for “tall” ranges. Much easier now so many young folk are taller nowadays.

46mumof6 · 14/06/2024 06:28

I'm 6ft 1 so most people are short to me.
I felt taller when I was younger and thinner, I loved wearing heels made me 6ft 4!!

My husband is 5ft tall 1/2 and we have been together so long now I don't really see how much taller I am than him.

5ft 7 1/2 is on the taller height for a women but not a giant. Embrace your height

ManilowBarry · 14/06/2024 06:32

Welsh women in general tend to be short so I tower above many in height. When I'm back in England I'm an average height.

Katemax82 · 14/06/2024 08:18

I'm 5ft 7 and average weight of 11-12st all my adult life (size 12-14) my husbands parents always made me feel like a fucking giant! My FIL was talking about his friends daughter who was 6ft and he said to me "you think you're big, you should see her!" Rude prick. And when talking about the size of house me and my husband should rent my MIL always said shit like "you need space, don't forget you're big people "!! Ffs. It's probably because my husband is the only 6ft male in his Immediate family, his dad was like 5ft 8. Then my firstborn came along, at 18 he's 6ft 4 so they know what a "big person" looks like!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/06/2024 08:22

I’m 5’ 7” and while above average, I don’t consider myself particularly tall.
I certainly don’t consider myself ‘big’ - that is more often a euphemism for ‘fat’ nowadays.
