to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

You would be tall to me and most women I know but I do know a couple of taller women. Nothing wrong with being tall though!

HikingforScenery · 07/01/2023 19:28

Wow I’m very surprised 5’3” is the average female height! I thought it was 5’6” or 5’7”

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 19:29

Is height a regional thing? Nothing to go by at all just wine.....

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 18:49

What do you mean 'half female'?

It means they semi-identify I think? As female gender (Oh dear! That bad word!) but half-hearted about it?

Minniem2020 · 07/01/2023 19:31

@HPLikecraft Good for your DD embracing her height. I wish I'd been like that. I spent my school years trying to be smaller and blend in, I have terrible posture as a result.

FavouriteDogMug · 07/01/2023 19:31

Laughing at the grammar fail situation, but surely being above average height and slim is a look that is very popular, ideal in the fashion industry for models and in general seen as willowy and elegant. Certainly nothing to feel bad about.

DampSquid · 07/01/2023 19:32

6ft 1 here, still wear heels if I feel like it and I'm taller than my 5ft 10 dh. Lots of men seem to like tall women. I'm regularly asked to get things down from high shelves in supermarkets 😂

I also read it as half female 😂

Nottodaty · 07/01/2023 19:32

I’m 5.9, family of tall females on both sides. The males are usually similar height so I’m used to us all roughly being the same height.

I married a shorter man whose Granny’s tiny barely 4.5 - this has passed onto my daughters who are around 5.5. They do feel short around my family!! But I feel like a giant when I visit husband family!

I don't think so. I moved a lot and I was usually the taller one. Except when other central/eastern European friends joined in.

pointythings · 07/01/2023 19:33

It's taller than average but not giant. I'm 5'10'' and I don't feel giantesque at all. What you need is a dose of confidence!

Wow. Try being less defensive and read the thread properly.

yubgummy · 07/01/2023 19:34

Unfortunately OP, you aren't as "big" as other "big" women such as Taylor Swift, Maria Sharapova, Karlie Kloss, Gisele Bündchen etc - but fingers crossed for a growth spurt...?

Buttonmoon45 · 07/01/2023 19:35

Unfortunately we have no choice in our height op, most would like to be a bit taller but if you prefer the midget look fair play.

megletthesecond · 07/01/2023 19:35

Average. But if you have good posture people might think you're taller.

SouperNoodle · 07/01/2023 19:36

I'm just under 5"9 and similar height to all my friends.
What's half female?

eurochick · 07/01/2023 19:36

This thread is a proper facepalm. The OP needs to use commas and many posters need to work on their reading comprehension.

Farfromthemaddingcrow · 07/01/2023 19:37

5 ft 7 puts you on the 91st centile for height according to the female growth charts used in the red book etc.

so out of 100 women you would be taller than 90 of them.

tall but not a giant.

50th centile is164cm.

Anywhere between 5’2” and 5’10” is unlikely to get commented on these days eg ‘ooh aren’t you tall/small?’
Average Uk height for females is 5’4” but there’s a big variation.
I’m 5’8” and am consistently the second tallest in groups of four or five friends. I did feel slightly big when I was younger, but these days I feel pretty average…….and am grateful that I can hide the Christmas pudding fat better.

Most? I'd like a vote on that as I'm pretty happy the height I am tbh

HuntingoftheSnark · 07/01/2023 19:38

I'm 5 foot 8 and fairly average among my friends. I was this height from age 12 though, and longed to be shorter - I went to an all girls' school and always had to be a man in school plays, invariably clothed in horrible trousers from some old attic.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 07/01/2023 19:41

I'm 5'7" and was a model in my younger days. I've lost count of the amount of jobs I didn't get booked for because I was too short!!

adriftabroad · 07/01/2023 19:42

Not very tall these days, no. 5 foot 7 was never really tall tbh.
I am 5 foot 9 and used to feel tall. Not so much now.

Searchingforsunshine · 07/01/2023 19:43

Tall in the south but not in the North of the UK x

Port1aCastis · 07/01/2023 19:43

I'm 5ft 8ins and am not considered "big" in my family, DD is an inch taller than me so is my Mum. My DH is 6ft4ins so very tall with size 13 shoes, I never worry about my height until I can't get a pair of jeans or trousers long enough, DH also has awful trouble getting jeans etc l
Anyway no OP you are not big just a little taller than average I'd say.
