to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

moonmoon123 · 07/01/2023 18:47

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

Daffodilsandtuplips · 08/01/2023 19:06

I think it’s above average height but not excessively so. And at 9stone you’re not a giant.
One of my daughters is 6 ‘ she gets the tall gene from her dads side, they are all tall, my DH is 6’2”: my mother in law and three of her sisters were all
5’10.

borderline53 · 08/01/2023 19:08

Just slightly above average.

Loics · 08/01/2023 19:09

Not tall, average I'd say. I would class 5ft 10 and above as tall, maybe 5ft 9 at a push.

CecilyP · 08/01/2023 19:11

You’re taller than average but not significantly so!

whev · 08/01/2023 19:42

Given that I’m 5”11 I’d hope not otherwise I’d be the BFG

Gronkle · 08/01/2023 19:46

I'm 5'7", I s as leats think I'm the tall end of the average bracket. I'd love to be taller, most of my friends are taller than me. My DD17 towers over me I'd never see some of 5'7" bad think they were tall.

OMG12 · 08/01/2023 19:48

Depends your age and nationality. I’m 5 ft 3 and most of my friends are in the same kind of range in mid 40s. 5ft7.5 would stand out as tall

young women seem a lot taller these days so imagine 5ft 7 would be average.

  • I always think.
racquel86 · 08/01/2023 21:18

Depends on who you hang around with...... I grew early and was massive compared to all my fiends but as times gone on I'm pretty average albeit slightly taller than some..... I'm 5ft6 and 8st. Sometimes I do wear heels but not often but that's cos ima nurse so inappropriate most days, and I have insecurities from growing fast as a child and towering over everyone but actually it would not at all be unreasonable at my height to wear heels if I fancied it and I have done pre child when I used to be able to go out and enjoy myself 🤣

StaceySolomonSwash · 08/01/2023 21:33

5'7" and below 9 stone is underweight.

RewildingAmbridge · 08/01/2023 21:37

I'm 5'9 I am taller than average. I do not feel like a giant. MIL and DHs aunt are around the same height as me and DHs female cousin is several inches taller. At Christmas I actually felt small as DH FIL, uncle and male cousin are all 6'2-6'5. I don't often wear high heels as then I do feel conspicuously tall (also I can't walk in them). I'm not sure why height is something to be embarrassed about? I never have to ask men to reach things for me!

RewildingAmbridge · 08/01/2023 21:38

Also when I drop to sub ten stone I look unwell. I think at that height you're BMI is under the healthy range.

GetMeOut87 · 08/01/2023 21:50

I'm 5'7".Never felt huge. It's maybe a bit on the taller side but not particularly.

LexMitior · 08/01/2023 22:12

6 foot. 5 foot 7 is not very tall to me!

oversized · 08/01/2023 22:43

yes you are tall. Taller than many but not exceptional or "eyebrow raising" tall.

i'd say 5ft 3 - 5ft 6 is the average/most common range

i'm 5 ft 9 and 10 stone. i feel like a huge manly giant compared to a lot of other women. i'm broader framed and taller than most other women i encounter. Not the flabbiest though - a lot of overweight people!

i's say most women i'm friends with are around 5 ft 3 to 5 ft 6. So i'm not massively taller but i do feel like a wider, scaled up version. hate it and have never felt feminine enough as i've got a boxy shape and no waist.

i'd say i'm taller than 50% of men i encounter too. A lot of short guys in the UK.

.

catfunk · 08/01/2023 22:47

I'm the same height and I'm average amongst my female friends, and colleagues. some are much taller. Some are shorter.

HRTQueen · 08/01/2023 22:52

Most my friends are around your height

I’m 5’2 so often feel small. When I go to Germany or Holland I feel tiny

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 09/01/2023 09:47

Yep, I used to be the tallest woman always in a room at 5.11 but not any more, I rarely feel tall these days.

It was abnormally tall when I was at school (I'm mid-40s). I was teased for it something rotten: called Big Bird and told the helicopters were coming to do my hair! I always wore flats and developed a horrendous stoop, for which my mother used to tell me off. At that age I'd have given my back molars to be a few inches shorter.

Nowadays, it's relatively usual.

KettrickenSmiled · 09/01/2023 10:12

I don't understand your post OP - do you never go out in society, so have no idea of the relative height ranges of other humans?

0Oo · 07/07/2023 11:04

I'm 5'7" and am very average around London/south east.

In Amsterdam I was mostly short in stature.

In Belgium I was very tall. I reakon it's because they don't drink much milk, and they haven't got fresh milk. It's all UHT.

Dalekjastninerels · 07/07/2023 11:08

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 18:49

What do you mean 'half female'?

😂

Pissing myself here (not literally!)

Obviously it means OP is female and is 5'7.

Happy to be of assistance Grin

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/07/2023 11:11

My 5ft 9 DD seems to specialise in 5ft friends. She looks a giant compared to them. My 5ft 8 DD goes for taller (5 ft 8+) friends. So she looks average to short. My 5ft 4 DD has average height friends, so looks entirely average.

I’m 5 ft 51/2 - so not massively shorter than OP - and feel very average.

Applesinmyhouse · 07/07/2023 11:13

I’m a whisker over 5.8. I’m taller than 75% of other women and about 50% of men. I’ve never considered myself tall but people describe me as tall? My friend growing up was 6ft so I felt short in comparison. But doctors and stuff have described me as tall 🤷🏻‍♀️ honestly when I’m with my 5.2 petite SIL I feel like the jolly green giant.

Dalekjastninerels · 07/07/2023 11:14

I think height is relative; I am 5ft'6 and have been called both short and tall.

Orangebadger · 07/07/2023 13:36

5'4" is average height for women in the UK so yes 5'7" is tall but not extremely tall, just regular tall. I would say over 5'10" is very tall
