to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

WaltzingWaters · 07/07/2023 13:39

I mean I’m 5ft so yeah I think you’re tall, but even someone 5ft1 is tall in my books 🤣

So obviously I have the complete opposite problem.

Splat92 · 07/07/2023 13:45

I'm 5'7"and would have said I'm on the taller side of average

Anonymouseposter · 07/07/2023 16:53

It’s not ‘big’. Taller end of average. Tallish but nothing that would stand out.

Anxioys · 07/07/2023 16:55

5 7 is tall for a British woman because most Brit men aren't much taller.

But strikingly tall or supermodel so then no. You would be rather small in the Netherlands!

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 07/07/2023 16:58

I’m 5’8 and consider myself to be moderately tall. I have long legs so need to wear tall clothing for bottom half. But I don’t think it’s ridiculously tall. Just a little taller than average.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 07/07/2023 17:00

I'm 5'11 and feel like a giant compared to all my friends, it doesn't bother me and I can get things off the top shelf in the supermarket unlike my teeny tiny mum at 5'2.

tweener · 07/07/2023 17:01

According to the internet the average height in the UK for a woman is 5 foot 3, so by that you would definitely be taller than average.

Dacadactyl · 07/07/2023 17:01

I'm 5 foot 7 and know what you mean at times. I feel very tall around smaller women, even tho I know I'm not really.

I'm glad of my height because I can get away with putting a few pounds on and it not be so obvious.

Leastsaidsoonestscrewed · 07/07/2023 17:03

Of course not. And I'm short.
6foot, maybe. 5'7 and frankly pretty slim, nope. __

SleepDreamThinkHuge · 07/07/2023 17:11

The latest 2023 stats show average height in UK for men is around 5 foot 10 and for women it is around 164cm which is just under 5 foot 5. I do not get the notion where everyone thinks just because their cousin or relative is 6 foot it means most people are. Yes people are taller but most men are not over 6 foot and most women are not above 5 feet 6 in the UK.

Depends on other factors as well such as ethnicity in Mexico for example the average height is 5 foot 7 for men and around 5 foot 5 for Indian men. Women are around 5 foot 2 on average for both countries.

LuciferRising · 07/07/2023 17:12

I never understand why people say the average is also made up of older people, or shorter ethnic minorities and if you removed those and left just the young girls, you'd get another value. Should only the young count towards the nation's average height?

Where I live many women are much shorter - but two of the tallest people I know are older women.

Johnisafckface · 07/07/2023 17:14

I'm 5'6"/5'6 and a half, and I'm taller than most women and a lot of men too. Whenever I'm at the grocery store I tower over most of the women and whenever I see someone my height, which is very rare, it makes me feel a little better. And there are some men that are my height or shorter - I've never seen so many short men in my life 😂

All of my friends, coworkers, and even my sister and my DM are shorter than I am. My sister is only 5'0. I'm also big framed so I do feel "big" like a giant next to most women but not just cause of my height but also my frame. I think if I was smaller framed I wouldn't feel as large.

AuntieMarys · 07/07/2023 17:16

I'm in my 60s and six feet tall. I'd consider you average

BashfulClam · 07/07/2023 17:16

I’m 5’9’’ all my friends are between 5’5’’ and 6’ so not unusually tall. I like my height but used to hate it as some men were put off by it (wee man syndrome). My brother is 6’4” so it must just be our genes despite my mum being 5’ and my dad just hitting 5’9”

now my friends husband is 6’8” so he always feels tall. It’s great on a night out as we can always find him.

TimeToMoveIt · 07/07/2023 17:16

I'm 5'7 and taller than most of my female friends. Think it depends on your age lots of much younger women are as tall or taller than me

Chocchops72 · 07/07/2023 17:26

5’ 7.5” here

in the UK I am tall-ish. Loads of women are smaller than me, quite a lot are same height or taller than me.

I’m France where I live: I’m really tall. And big with it 🤷‍♀️ many French women are tiny and lots are really slim.

in Germany where I recently was on holiday, I blended right in to the extent that my kids kept thinking other women were me 😂 same height, same light hair, same broad shoulders, hips and big boobs . It was great - I did lots of shopping, finally finding clothes that fitted. So normal height in Germany.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/07/2023 17:32

Average at work - teenagers from varying ethnicities plus the obvious middleclass women (who are statistically far more likely to be taller on average), if not actually a little short once you start looking at all female staff in the higher level roles and year 11-13.

A giant amongst mine and DP's families - although I'm an ungainly giant compared to all the genuinely teeny-tinies we're surrounded by and DP is a 'big lad' at 5'6" and quite muscley.

StJulian2023 · 07/07/2023 17:35

‘Tall’ and ‘big’ are very much not the same thing, of course. I spent my childhood constantly being told how ‘big’ I was by shorter peers who were very much bigger than I was.

Makes me laugh now how awful I was made to feel at school for being tall, slim and clever.

SamW98 · 07/07/2023 17:38

I’m 5’7 and I like my height because I’m taller than average but not noticeably tall. I think it’s a nice height.

The one thing I’ve noticed however since I’ve been single is how many men are my height or shorter

AffIt · 07/07/2023 17:53

I'm 5'8.5" and yes, I'm taller than average for a woman in the UK, but not remarkably so.

I have a female friend who's 6'4" - that's properly tall!

Butchyrestingface · 07/07/2023 22:47

5 foot 7 is a fair bit taller than the British average for a woman so yes, it's tall but hardly Jack and the Beanstalk territory.

At 5 ft 2, I am well jel. Grin

JudgeRudy · 07/07/2023 22:50

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/01/2023 18:49

What do you mean 'half female'?

I thought that....initially. She meant to say I'm 5ft 7 and a half....and I'm female!

Butchyrestingface · 07/07/2023 22:52

Oh Lord, this thread is older than the Pharaohs. I commented on it back in my callow youth too. Angry

NCGrandParent · 07/07/2023 22:52

I'm same and am above average for where I live but not amongst my friends. I have friends who are shorter and more petite but as many who are similar height/build. It's not "big" but might be considered "tall" compared to a group who are all shorter.

JudgeRudy · 07/07/2023 22:53

5ft 7 is above average, but if you're under 40 it certainly wouldn't be considered anything worthy of note. I'd sayitsyouwhosjydging yourself, not others. Tbh I'd say it's agreat height. I'd rather be tall than short, but not too much. You're at the top end of average range, which would beperfect for me. I would imagine many envy your figure
