to wonder if a 5’7 female is ‘big’

I’m a 5’7 and a half female, in your completely honest opinion do you think I’m tall or average height. I feel massive and huge next to every other girl, don’t wear heels ever and hate it.
im just under 9st and feel I just look like this absolute giant.
I never am called tall by anyone but believe I am.
In your opinion is 5’7-5’8 ‘really tall’ for a female

5'7 is not particularly tall, it might be an inch or so above average. I would say 5'10 and above is tall for a woman.

It's 3.5 inches above average.

RunLolaRun102 · 08/01/2023 16:25

The average female height in the UK is 5 ft 3.5 - so anyone taller than this is tall.

Orangebadger · 08/01/2023 16:26

Average height for a woman is 5'4" so it is quite tall but not very. I am 5'6" and I feel either taller or the same height as most women other than the odd very tall woman who I feel tiny next to!

I'm 5'5 and definitely feel tall.

Andywarholswig · 08/01/2023 16:26

I think you are slight above average - I’m 6’1, it used to be much more of a novelty, but I see a lot of tall(er) young women now (including both my daughters)

Tulipvase · 07/01/2023 19:02

Often? Really?

Yep, I used to be the tallest woman always in a room at 5.11 but not any more, I rarely feel tall these days.

FatGirlSwim · 08/01/2023 16:27

Don’t be silly! It may be slightly above average but I’m 5ft 8 and don’t consider myself tall, or feel I tower over anyone. I have friends taller and friends shorter than me. My 13yo dd is 5ft 7 and doesn’t tower over her friends.

I wouldn’t equate tall with big either. I think you have quite an unhealthy perspective on it.

Barleysugar86 · 08/01/2023 16:29

I am 5ft 9 and consider myself tall. 5ft 7 is probably above average for a woman but looks small to me!

Honestly it's probably perfect height for a woman I'd have thought (a little bit of height is slimming/ its always nice to be able to reach things!)

thehappyhaggis · 08/01/2023 16:35

I'm 5'2" and have female friends ranging from 5' to 6' but I'd say most are between 5'5" and 5'7". Although they seem tall to me I don't consider that they are tall in general. I'm the shortest in my friendship group and my work etc... so I always assumed I was in the minority. Didn't realise until this thread that the average height is 5'3!

If I could pick my height I'd choose to be 5'7.

lurchermummy · 08/01/2023 16:41

My DD (21) is 5'10" and does get called tall. My other DD (18) is 5'3" and gets called "tiny". You can't win. I think average height in uk is 5'4" which I am - or was, I'm shrinking.

To be fair the op I was replying to said she was often towered over by other women which I think is probably a bit of an exaggeration.

Im only 5’2’’ on a good day, so used to being one of the shortest but still, in my school of approx 70 staff (majority women) only a handful are approaching 6ft.

As the average height for a man is only 5’9’’ then I do consider 5’7’’ to be tallish.

But I do agree people are getting taller, I’m often lost walking down the corridor at lunch time and I work in a primary school!

My 17 year old daughter is shorter than me though and my husband is 6ft so not tall but also not particularly short.

Sorry just seen it was dwarfed by, not towered over.

Elsiebear90 · 08/01/2023 16:47

I’m 5ft 7, my wife is 5ft 8, her mum is 5ft 10 and my best friend is 5ft 7, so I don’t feel like it’s massively tall, but I have noticed often at work I’m the tallest woman in the room. A lot of my friends are 5ft 3 and 4, so on a night out when I’m wearing heels I sometimes also feel massive as I’m taller than most men. I would say I would consider 5ft 10 and above tall for a woman, 5ft 7 is taller than average, but not unusually tall imo.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/01/2023 16:48

I was going to ask which half of you is female but someone beat me to it.
The national average height for a woman is 5'3,5" so you are taller than average but not tall.

jennakitt · 08/01/2023 16:56

Does anyone know? Are those stats of 5 ft 3.5 out of date now? They're from 10 years ago, the wiki stats.

I know it's only half an inch but I thought it was around 5ft 4 now. I think ONS might be the source for that.

jennakitt · 08/01/2023 16:57

I'm above average height but would have liked to have been 5ft 7 which I just fell short of. My sister is 5ft 10 so I was always called short.

Oakbeam · 08/01/2023 17:02

It says 5’ 4.7” here…

www.onaverage.co.uk/body-averages/average-female-height

I can see a source for their data though.

TheyJustDontFit · 08/01/2023 17:03

I am 6'2" and have been since I was 14. That was very tall back in 1980. Not so much now. My 12 year old DD is already 5'7".

These days your height is much more normal.

Stand tall and be proud of your height.

Oakbeam · 08/01/2023 17:03

Can’t se a source..

CitronVert22 · 08/01/2023 17:15

If it really is now 5’ 4.7, then the standard deviation that I found elsewhere is 2.2, so you're just over one standard deviation from the mean. Meaning thar around 85% of women are shorter than you. But also 15% are taller. So yes, you are talish, but not remarkably so. I'm just under 5'7'' and often taller than other women, but not so that I notice it much. It helps of course that I'm not that tall for a human once you combine the sexes.

jevoudrais · 08/01/2023 17:17

Not that tall, but I'd say on the taller side. 'Reasonably tall' probably. I'm 5'9" and would say I am quite tall.

AmazonsFuckedUpFreeMusicFeature · 08/01/2023 18:28

Again, where are all you tall people😂
There should be way more visible on a street at 6 foot. That's taller than half the lads around here

Anonymouslyposting · 08/01/2023 18:29

I’m almost exactly the same as you in both height and weight (well, not at the moment as I’m 9 months pregnant but usually).

I feel a bit taller than average but not weirdly so and I’m a size 8-10 so I don’t feel “big”. I feel like if I was picking my height I’d be a bit shorter but I wouldn’t want to be less than 5’5.

I think it depends who you spend time with and where you are - some areas of the country have a shorter average height and others taller. I don’t feel much taller than most of the women around me and am shorter than pretty much all the men I know so I think I’m fine. I don’t wear very high heels - but then I’ve never been able to walk in them anyway!

StrawberryWater · 08/01/2023 18:33

I’m 5’7 and used to think I was small (only because my sisters are all 5’10 and up and my brothers are 6’2 and over. Even my niece is over 6ft) and then I moved to where I live now and I tower over everyone. All my friends here are between 5ft and 5’4.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 08/01/2023 18:38

I'm nearly 5' 11".

When I went to Dubrovnik, I felt like a short arse.
