To not be able to stop thinking about the Idaho murder case

Is anyone else following this case? It’s absolutely horrible and has really scared me to the point of locking my bedroom door when I sleep every night! The more that comes out in the news, the more bizarre and confusing the case seems to get too. So scary to think what people are capable of 😞

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling yes absolutely that ! I think it's still best to keep that under your pillow though! I have dogs , they are great for waking me
Up as they bark at noises outside etc but against someone who wanted to stab and kill that fast I don't think even they would be a deterrent.
It's really terrifying the thought of being in your bed and perhaps a little drunk and not being able to even realise what was happening , what you woke up to , yet alone being sober and waking up to what they did, I can't stand that thought.
I thought the same , kaylee was visiting so maybe it was the last opportunity . But the lack of sexual attack always seems so strange aswell , stabbing is a rage crime they always say , sexual rage etc
They all seemed so happy to in their lives didn't they

FartOutLoudDay · 21/05/2023 20:28

The lack of sexual attack makes sense given the two girls were in a room together (and potentially fuelled the rage?)

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 21/05/2023 20:40

Yeah I think that’s very feasible @FartOutLoudDay - maybe he went there with that intention with one victim in mind and when he found they weren’t alone, it enraged him. Or one of them stirred and he panicked and started attacking. It’s just so awful. I really can’t comprehend it at all. Four people so full of life and their whole lives ahead of them, just taken in such a vicious and horrific way. I don’t really have much interest in true crime but this has really gripped me, it’s so sad.

foxlover47 · 22/05/2023 00:01

@FartOutLoudDay I literally cannot believe I had never thought of it like that !

I’ve read stuff saying it’s thought he was very much after one of them specifically…..can’t remember which one. I thought he had found to be following one of them on Instagram? Maybe he knew her room was upstairs…..she was unexpectedly sharing a room with someone else, so maybe he felt he had to kill the other? Maybe he went in the wrong upstairs room first? Or felt he had to kill the occupants of the other room as they’d hear stuff? I think the other two were two floors further down? So either he didn’t know they were there or thought they wouldn’t have heard or by then was panicking they might have heard and might have called the police so wanted to leave quickly.

Thank you! I admit, this case totally confuses me to no end.

The court case begins this week. People in the know say the evidence is overwhelming.

All that is happening this week/today is BK entering his plea. The trial is likely to be in 18 months to 2 years time.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 22/05/2023 07:44

It's only the plea today, if he waives his right to a speedy trial it could be a good 18 months or so, but I think the Idaho rule is that it must be within 9 months of arraignment (sp?) if not.

foxlover47 · 22/05/2023 17:24

Trial has been set for 2nd October 8.30 am

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 22/05/2023 18:52

Lots of posts on Reddit saying it’ll almost undoubtedly be pushed back that date. It must be so incredibly hard on the families.

thewinterwitch · 23/05/2023 23:26

From what I've read, the prosecution has 90 days from the arraignment to declare whether they will be seeking the death penalty.

They have also delivered 51 terabytes of audio/visual material to the defence! Over 10,000 pages of written material, and around 10,200 photographs. And 9,200 tips. That's a lot of material to comb through and prepare to refute.

I very much doubt, if it is proceeding to trial, it will be on the current holding date of October 2nd, which was requested and set within the "speedy trial" limits for a reason; and the right to a speedy trail may be waived by BK's attorney at any time, bearing all this in mind.

thewinterwitch · 27/06/2023 04:52

Notice filed. The state are seeking the death penalty.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 27/06/2023 05:01

They must be confident of the evidence.

thewinterwitch · 27/06/2023 05:58

It does sound so.

thewinterwitch · 01/07/2025 01:16

Ahead of the trial, which was set to start next month, Brian Kohberger has agreed to plead guilty to all four murders, in order to take the death penalty off the table. There will be no ability for him to launch any appeals, no chance of parole, and he will spend the rest of his life in jail.

I’ve just seen this. All that stress and stinging the families on for years and for what ?

thewinterwitch · 01/07/2025 01:46

On the one hand it's good, because it spares the families the ordeal of the trial and the possibility of a not guilty verdict, or of years of appeals following a guilty verdict, but it must feel like a letdown to some of them.

FartOutLoudDay · 01/07/2025 09:35

I think I’ve seen the Gonzales family are particularly upset at this outcome, presumably as it takes the death penalty off the table. Will he be made to give an explanation for his actions as part of the deal? That’s the bit that still seems so baffling.

Lafufu · 23/07/2025 17:27

They're in the middle of the statements from the victims as part of the sentencing and I'm sure he's finally starting to look uncomfortable. Kaylee's family did not hold back.

CoffeeBoy · 23/07/2025 18:16

Been heartbreaking to watch. And he sits there like a statue. No emotion.

justgettingthroughtheday · 23/07/2025 18:38

He almost looked like he was enjoying it at times. I hope those victim impact statements are played to him day and night for the rest of his miserable existence.

Lafufu · 23/07/2025 18:41

Even the judge was holding back tears. His sentencing remarks were spot on, there's no point trying to figure out the why. I also hope BK is fuming at being called incompetent

JHound · 23/07/2025 18:46

I somehow never heard of this case. Reading up on it now.

Someo · 23/07/2025 21:04

He’s looks dead behind the eyes. Such a horrific event

AngularMerkin · 25/07/2025 13:26

The way he just sat there blankly during those statements was so chilling. A true psychopath. I doubt he felt anything at all other than disappointment he got caught.
