To not be able to stop thinking about the Idaho murder case

Is anyone else following this case? It’s absolutely horrible and has really scared me to the point of locking my bedroom door when I sleep every night! The more that comes out in the news, the more bizarre and confusing the case seems to get too. So scary to think what people are capable of 😞

It's heartbreaking and chilling

Brian Entin on twitter doing great updates on the case - there's another court appearance later today.

MynameisJune · 12/01/2023 09:52

It’s the preliminary status hearing today. I think it’s about 4pm our time.

There are redacted pages from the affidavit so even though it’s been released it hasn’t all been released. Hence why some things may not make sense.

Also that article whilst fairly informative also got a few details incorrect like the name of the dog and the fact that Dylan was on the second floor not 1st. So I wouldn’t take that as gospel.

OneFrenchEgg · 12/01/2023 09:54

I don't think it's redacted. Names are bit not entire pages.

TuneInThisTimeNextWeek · 12/01/2023 09:54

I think there must have been a blood trail inside the house, I imagine by now they know exactly what order the victims were killed in. He’d only need to have been wearing something like the waterproofs bikers wear and he could have removed them in under a minute right inside or outside of the door. Stick them in a bag you’ve left by the back door for that purpose, and you’re good to go … yes, I’ve been thinking about it too!

Starrburst · 12/01/2023 10:06

Hopefully they have more DNA evidence at the scene and other evidence not yet disclosed - but surely the evidence we already know is pretty hard to explain away - all the phone pings before and during / car catches on cctv / DNA on knife sheath / 4am cleaning car and trash into neighbours bin at parent house - /

Starrburst · 12/01/2023 10:07

Plus the messages posted online that match his username and profile / his general profiling

There are pages redacted from the affidavit which include the post mortem reports on all 4 victims.

What murder case? Not heard of one.

Other than the DNA a lot of this is circumstantial, and as I said earlier in the thread a suspect in the US was acquitted because the DNA sample they had was so small it could have been transferred from someone else. Phone pings, could have been buying drugs but also his phone pinged the Moscow tower on one occasion when it wasn’t in the area, so they’ll have to explain why they believe it was in the area all the other times.

I’d hope that they have a lot more evidence on him than what is in the affidavit. His public defender got a previous murder suspect exonerated but I don’t know the case details of that to know if it was similar with DNA evidence etc.

I can't tell if you're joking or just ignorant to what's going on in the world

Yes and combined with some waterproof seat protectors and stuff in the car for any accidental transfers - he may well think he's kept the car 'clean'.
I hope the car will bring more evidence.

justgettingthroughtheday · 12/01/2023 10:34

Can anyone explain it?

I wonder whether either Bethany or Dylan have discovered Xana's body and screamed for the other housemates? On not having had a response from their fellow housemates and perhaps being too scared to look (or sensible enough to know not too) they have left the house and called the police and friends.

I hope this is the case as it may have sparred them some of the worst of the scene.

4 college killed with a knife in Moscow, Idaho.

There is a lot going on in the world, I haven't heard of some things :)

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2023 10:52

Omg that is terrible.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2023 10:54

@ImprobablePuffin no, I'm not joking. Nor am I ignorant. I just haven't heard of it.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2023 10:55

And it happened in November.

Yes but the case is ongoing. They have only just made an arrest!

No, that's an error. The Chief of police has explained this. It goes from page 1 to page 3, and the sentence ending page 1 runs on. The redacted blank page is just an error. The affidavit does only include brief descriptions of the four victim's wounds, however. The rest would be presented at trial.

I think she probably locked herself in her room and worked through in her mind what she had seen, heard and de escalated her concerns until she went to sleep, then woke up and realised her initial instincts were right. That guilt will probably never leave her

This makes a lot of sense. A good perspective

This is exactly what i think happened too. Even if he gave her the creeps and scared her as he walked past her, he was leaving. She had heard some noise, but no screaming, no struggling. How on earth could she have leapt from ''who's he?'' to ''everybody upstairs is now dead''

So many times when I lived at home with my parents (and their garden backed on to a dark unlit road, I would hear a noise I couldn't explain and then lie still with my heart beating, pounding in fact, then I wouldn't hear another noise and I would tell myself I had attributed a scary meaning to an ordinary noise.

thewinterwitch · 12/01/2023 11:10

I’d hope that they have a lot more evidence on him than what is in the affidavit.

Hard to explain his DNA on the fastening button of the sheath of the murder weapon found on the bed beside two victims. Also, the cell phone data and other evidence of his frequent drive bys of the house, including returning the morning after the murders.

But of course the affidavit is just to provide probable cause for arrest - and only the tip of the iceberg of the evidence processed from the house. They will also have much more evidence now they have been able to go through his apartment, his computer, phone, and his car. They also have reasonable idea of likely locations where he went, c/- phone tower and FBI data tracking, to dispose of the murder weapon and any clothing, gloves, shoes, etc. I would be very surprised also if they did not find more DNA evidence in his car.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 12/01/2023 11:37

They MUST have so much more evidence. When I have been reading and thinking about this, I’ve not really comprehended what the actual reality would have been like in terms of blood loss. I don’t really know why - perhaps because it’s just too shocking and awful to think about. But it must have been extensive - I can’t believe there is only one latent footprint, for example. So the complete lack of mention or detail apart from that article shared above - which is literally the first mention of what the scene would have been like - must mean that they do indeed have a lot more forensically.

JoyPeaceHealth · 12/01/2023 11:42

The flat mate downstairs ''BF'' she really did sleep through it all. I feel so sorry for DM. The poor girl.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 12/01/2023 12:00

I keep thinking about Xana - if she came across him and tried to run to her room and Ethan, but he caught her. It’s just horrendous, like something out of a horror film.

I get very scared on my own at night. I have PTSD from something in my childhood and when I left home, I would frequently take sleeping tablets because I was afraid at night. I have never shaken the habit of creeping around at night expecting there to be someone there - so for this to have been the women’s reality that night, both Xana AND Dylan, I just can’t comprehend the fear, my heart goes out to them and their families.

They had all been out drinking, it’s not without possibility that she was in a deep sleep. Also it was a noisy house, in tiktok videos you can hear how loud the floors were. So she might have slept with some form of white noise or ear plugs to drown it out.

I think they mentioned the latent print to prove that he walked past Dylan’s door as he left so it corroborated her version some what. Although there’s no proof he was wearing van type shoes unless they find a pair that match.

His phone pinged near a huge national park and then lost network for 3hrs. People are saying he went there to dispose of the murder weapon and clothes etc he wore.
