To not be able to stop thinking about the Idaho murder case

Is anyone else following this case? It’s absolutely horrible and has really scared me to the point of locking my bedroom door when I sleep every night! The more that comes out in the news, the more bizarre and confusing the case seems to get too. So scary to think what people are capable of 😞

Just rewatched the end of the hearing and it's BK and named family members and survivors ('no contact orders).

Thanks for clearing that up

@NotAnotherBathBomb that's precisely what I'm saying! One of the victims will almost certainly have links to him. Even if they didn't know him well he knew them. He had a vendetta against someone within that house. This was personal. Not random.

I hope we can find out more as the case goes on.

MynameisJune · 10/01/2023 20:52

I read a theory that Maddison and Xana were targets and Ethan/Kaylee just collateral damage. Kaylee had already moved out, it’s unlikely that he would have known she was coming back for that weekend and they were attacked in Maddie’s room. Also Ethan didn’t live at the house, he arrived after they had all got home. If he watched Xana get her door dash delivery then he maybe presumed she was alone if Ethan was in her room. Plus they were the two that worked at Mad Greek.

It makes sense to me that these two were the targets and why he left Dylan alive. It’s a known trait of any killers that they leave a person alive to tell the story after. Also Dylan had recently moved in, he may not have known she was in that room to expect/look for her. There’s also the whole visual snow issue if that’s true.

The truck Dylan posed with is her boyfriends, many people first suspected him due to that truck on the police cam footage and pictures they deleted wearing balaclavas. I haven’t seen if he has been officially cleared although I don’t think he was near the house at the time.

Kaylee had posted on social media that she was there or was going there. He was stalking them. Her vehicle was on the driveway he would have known she was there. She and Maddie had been out together that night. Ethan and Xana were also out together and came back together.

It was a brand new vehicle, he wouldn’t have necessarily known. Yes they took pictures but it seems to be agreed that LE think he planned this to a large extent. He is also very into numbers and dates, most agree that he chose the date deliberately. Not just on a whim because Kaylee was there.

MynameisJune · 10/01/2023 21:01

And as for them coming back together, he didn’t leave his apartment until 3am ish, well after all occupants got home. He wouldn’t have seen them return together.

Anyway it’s just another theory and it made more sense to me than Kaylee being the target as she had been moved out a while.

One of the victims Madison Mogen is mentioned in connection to another girl, Hannah Cleere. Whether these rumours are true or not is not confirmed, and both of them being dead, the followers of this case can only speculate.

I went and looked this up after you posted it, and whilst I absolutely cannot believe it to be in any kind of reality at all, gosh that tweet is just awful by the person who said she deserved it. That has really shocked me, thinking about how horrific their deaths were.

Quinniebellie · 10/01/2023 21:06

Or maybe just Maddie was the target? And Kaylee got killed because she was in Maddies bed.
I’m definitely leaning towards the theory that Xana and Ethan were collateral damage.. I agree with pp’s that I think Xana caught him when going from her room to the kitchen/bathroom which would make sense with the crying and Dylan hearing him say “I’m going to help you” to try to keep her quiet, plus where she was found. Also if that audio recording is real, Ethan shouts “Z” and some other stuff which would make sense if he either saw Bryan coming toward her or attacking her.

I hate how much I can’t stop thinking about this 😩

Unless he makes a confession we may never know the whole truth. Ethan arrived at the address with Xana as they had both attended at frat house party together that evening. I wondered how he would know Kaylee was there if she was the intended target but as other posters pointed out they had posted on social media about her visit. If he had gone to her room and found it empty it makes sense that he would check Maddy's room next as it was on the same floor. I suppose its possible that the restaurant was the connection with the housemates.

He was driving up and down the road for a while before parking so we don't know if he saw Xana take delivery of her food.

I'm interested about where the dog was before he arrived, was the dog already shut into Kaylee's old room or was the dog with Maddy and Kaylee and the killer put it into Kaylee's room.

The leather sheath seems odd for such a strict vegan too.

I think he might try to implicate Dylan whether she had anything to do with it or not.

It does seem most likely that either Maddie or Kaylee were the target. Kaylee was the most horrifically injured but in the dark he could potentially have got them the wrong way round.

justgettingthroughtheday · 10/01/2023 21:13

@MynameisJune yes it was a new vehicle. She had brought it over to show Maddie. They had posted pictures of themselves with the car on social media. If he was stalking Kaylee's (or Maddie's) social media he would have known she was there and what car was hers

Quinniebellie · 10/01/2023 21:22

@justgettingthroughtheday or maybe she just had the worst injury’s because she put up more of a fight? Maybe he stabbed Maddie first which woke Kaylee. It would be harder to kill someone who’s awake and fighting so would probably end up with more injury’s.
whatever happened, we may never know. Those poor kids it’s so unimaginable what they went through.

The Hannah Cleere theory seems to be taking off online, plus there’s another guy who died who they allegedly knew - Hudson Lindow. There was also some controversy around his death which people are connecting. Have to admit, that is a larger than normal number of students to die in weird circumstances in one small town.

We don’t know who posted it but if the person is in any way related to Hannah ( not just in terms of blood-ties), they won’t feel sorry for her bully.

I just read this is an article online:

"Their smoking gun was the DNA evidence against Kohberger; a sample found on the button snap of a knife sheath left at the scene was a 99.98 percent match to DNA taken from his family home, that could only belong to him or his father."

Is it worrying that the tiny bit of DNA is the 'smoking gun'? As PP have said, other people have got off crimes because the DNA evidence was so small.

The same article also says:

"Now, Shannon Gray - the attorney representing Kaylee's family - says Kohberger didn't even know any of the victims.
'No one knew of this guy at all,' Gray said in an interview with Business Insider. "
So it would seem there was no obvious link and it's not necessarily true that he had been in the property for parties etc

I think that just sensationalism from the media re the smoking gun. The affidavit is only probable cause, they would absolutely not have detailed all their evidence in there at all. They need the bare minimum to convince a judge that he was the right guy.

ImprobablePuffin · 10/01/2023 21:48

"The Idaho murders are scarier because the victims were chosen at random and stalked by a total stranger. It’s something that could happen to any one of us (although exceptionally unlikely).

The case you mention is horrible but doesn’t scare me, because I wouldn’t date a man who was electronically tagged, a cocaine addict and has a history of arson, GBH and robbing a newsagent with a knife. So it’s not something that could have happened to me."

What a narrow minded view. I knew two women who were both murdered. One by her very well to do doctor and the other by her Oxford educated, very successful friend. So believe me, it can happen to you. It can happen to anyone.

There’s a case in Utah from last week where a ‘normal’ Dad killed his wife, his mil, and his 5 kids before killing himself. All because she filed for divorce. It’s definitely not just the ex convicts and drug addicts that do this.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 10/01/2023 22:15

I think for me the fear of it is stranger vs someone known to me.

Like in the Sarah Everard case. If it was he boyfriend that had done it, I wouldn't be scared for my safety as a result.

But finding out that a random man unknown to her did it, that made me terrified. Because it could have been me.

That's the difference to me between Bryan Kohberger in the Idaho case and Damien Bendall in the case outlined above.

And I know there is some speculation that BK could have known one or more of the victims, but as of now, it appears that he was a stranger to them. That's what makes it scary.

FartOutLoudDay · 10/01/2023 22:50

I wouldn’t have thought any of the attorneys involved will have had full disclosure of the evidence, and how likely is it that parents would know all the people their young adult children had contact with? Prosecutors are surely going to have to talk about how he identified the victims/motive if they find any

Polik · 10/01/2023 23:17

Does anyone know what happened to the dog?

Surely defence is entitled to anything prosecution intends to use? So they can prepare a defence?

Before the trial yes. Presumably there is a deadline for all the information to be turned over so that the defence have time to prepare for trial.

I absolutely agree with that. I know that most murders are committed by someone close to the victim but of course we all don’t think it will happen to us and we presumably (mostly, unless there’s a problem) aren’t afraid of those close to us constantly wondering if they’ll murder us! I think murders committed by people the victims knows are obviously just as tragic but the general public don’t feel afraid, as such. More saddened. However, there’s a killer choosing victims at random and stalking those victims like prey and murdering them for absolutely no reason, that is terrifying because why them and not us?

I read that at the request of Dylan, there’s been a no contact order put in place for a period of 2 years between the families of the victims and the surviving roommates.. what does that mean? That the families can’t contact the survivors? I don’t know the court lingo so not sure?

I’ll try to find the source for this

This is weird? I’ve not heard this? So who put this order in place/requested the order? That’s very unusual. Unless it could be connected to Kaylee’s dad, who kept speaking to the media … could the police have not wanted her dad to release info about their theory about what happened before they caught BK? Maybe they needed to keep it quiet so he didn’t flee. But then why 2 years?

Another thing about this is that some people believe that when Kaylee’s dad spoke to the media and said that certain people have been cleared too soon, he was talking about one of the surviving roommates, because he referred to this person as ‘she’.

I can’t think of any reason why the parents and roommates wouldn’t be allowed to contact each other unless they’re not considered fellow victims? It’s so bizarre.

And what about Bethany that night? Anyone know?
