To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

You are wearing YOUR mask that's all you need to concern yourself with

You do you

Nobody else needs to if they don't want to

Pelo22 · 28/12/2022 23:38

@JoyBeorge I didn't wear one around someone on Christmas Day and suspect they didn't test before seeing me
I haven't left the house otherwise since the 20th dec so... I know where it's come from Sad

Pelo22 · 28/12/2022 23:39

And yeah it might be funny to others but I'm sat waiting for 111, emailing haematology and waiting for people to call back so I can hopefully get an infusion
I have no fucking immune system and I'm really annoyed that I've kept myself ok for so long

bizzywiththefizzy · 28/12/2022 23:41

People seem oblivious that we wore them in hospitals for flu patients long before covid. Flu is actually causing us far more issues and we’re wearing masks at work - have been since October.

if you feel unwell but need to go out then I think it’s appropriate to wear a mask.

CheesesandWines · 28/12/2022 23:43

People should be wearing masks in enclosed spaces yes. On the tube in London for example, it's just crazy that people don't. Of course the type of mask you wears matters. FFP3 to protect yourself in v crowded conditions, a blue surgical mask inside to protect others. Just because people don't like it, doesn't mean it's not the best thing to do !

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/12/2022 23:45

Funnily enough I've been doing quite a bit of train travel recently and people's revolting coughing/snorting/ snotting etc have had me reaching for my mask again.

Except what you said is wrong. Part of good public health is everyone doing their bit when needed.

Notimeforaname · 28/12/2022 23:34

I think if you are vaccinated then you shouldn't be made to wear a mask long-term
And those unvaccinated should just wear them? Thatll work.

I didnt actually mean it in that way. I assume before vaccinations came around it made more sense to wear them and now the majority of the public are generally vaccinated there isn't such a need

FrostyFifi · 28/12/2022 23:47

Given that masks are there to protect people from what you're breathing out rather than in, it makes me feel I want to give mask wearers a wide berth as it makes me wonder if they've got the virus

FFP2/3 masks protect the wearer. I wear them in shops and on public transport.

DDivaStar · 28/12/2022 23:49

No.i don't feel the need. If you want to thats your choice.

TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 28/12/2022 23:49

No no no @CheesesandWines there is NO requirement to wear masks

None.

TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 28/12/2022 23:49

Down to individual choice

If your not vaccinated and don't want wear them then don't. I'm not the OP and I'm not that bothered. I was just trying to address her in a respectful manner

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/12/2022 23:51

No thank you and pointless

PermanentlyinUAT · 28/12/2022 23:52

They should be mandatory. Also think we should start thinking about another lockdown. We need to get to zero covid. Let’s petition Rishi! 🥱

You do you, love. Authoritarianism is not the answer.

DarkForces · 28/12/2022 23:52

No. I am absolutely not wearing a useless rag on my face to make you feel better.

@Itloggedmeoutagain

I don't, I just have underlying issues which make covid very very serious for me. I know it doesn't protect me a great deal, but I wear FP2 makes as it gives me some protection - which is better than nothing, but if it makes people think I might have it & give me a wider berth then win/win.

RandomUsername22 · 28/12/2022 23:55

Absolutely not. The relentless control over people’s private lives and personal choices that have taken place over the last few years must never, ever be allowed to happen again.

CheesesandWines · 28/12/2022 23:55

TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 28/12/2022 23:49

It's not about a requirement, it's about being sensible and practicing good public health.

@DarkForces you could always wear a proper FP2 mask & actually protect other people. Only idiots thought 'rags' would do any good.

givethistokevin · 28/12/2022 23:59

@Steoa

I like masks tbh, I'm autistic and it makes me feel a bit calmer "hiding" behind them.

I liked them for the same reason. Unfortunately I hated other people wearing them as I rely on lip reading to help me process what's being said, so I struggled a lot with communication!

VaccineSticker · 28/12/2022 23:59

It doesn’t take much to trigger people these days as soon as you mention the word mask.
ps I’m not a mask wearer but have no
problem with wearing it again if they impose it.
ironically today our GP texted everyone to say that the nhs has updated its advice and wants all patients entering their building masked because of the increase in covid and the flu.
Very sensible request I think.
people talk about hospitals and doc being overwhelmed and not being able to get an appointment, but if you ask people to do a simple thing like mask up to help decrease the chances of more people getting poorly and therefore using up more nhs resources, they aren’t prepared to do so.

OatFox · 28/12/2022 23:59

Unless the government are that worried that they're giving out proper filtered masks that actually protect people, I won't be wearing one.
