To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

I'm pretty certain that mask wearing isn't going to touch the sides of the NHS's woes. Not even a little bit.

tiger2691 · 03/01/2023 14:32

I wear one, in the supermarket, mainly because a few weeks ago someone launched a nuclear sneeze in all directions in Aldi (in the fresh meat/chilled aisle) and then gleefully shouted out to the person she was with "Oh, I think i might have the flu". Laugh, I nearly cried, she might at least have tried to contain the sneeze.

zingally · 03/01/2023 14:57

I continued wearing a mask longer than most people, and if we were told to go back to masking, I would. But as it currently stands... I've no plans to mask at the moment.

KeepScrapingBy · 03/01/2023 17:01

Personally I’d never wear a mask again. But I don’t mind if other people do.

Roselilly36 · 03/01/2023 17:16

I won’t wear a mask either. People need to put things into perspective, flu has always been around in winter, and kills many each year. A flimsy mask won’t stop you contracting a virus. If people still want to wear a mask fine, that’s their choice, but no way should it be inflicted on the rest of the population.

CriticalAlert · 03/01/2023 20:21

I think that the NHS will be begging everyone to wear masks again!

DillDanding · 03/01/2023 20:48

I’ve just watched a new GPs Behind Closed Doors.

It was so nice to see the doctors mask-free when speaking to their patients.

JenniferBooth · 03/01/2023 21:02

@CriticalAlert You mean Chris Hopson will

JulieMarooley · 03/01/2023 21:14

I am a little worried about children’s immune systems, given we’re told that the strep A increase might be due to lockdowns and people not mixing.

I don’t know where the balance should lie exactly, but I am worried about other unintended consequences of lockdowns/masks etc.

So do I.

My surgeon told me today that they've scrapped covid tests for NHS patients being admitted for orthopaedic surgery in his (London) hospital.

Ironically still happening before admission in the private hospital despite having patients having single rooms rather than being on wards.

Perhaps not all the NHS departments are quite as worried about covid as others.

They can beg all they like, I still won’t be.

Me neither

A friend of mine had a hip replacement between Christmas and NY at a private hospital. She was left alone with no pain relief and was allowed no visitors. Still!

At least the NHS are allowing visitors - probably because care would collapse even more if they didn't.

I couldn't understand why all the other patients had visitors after our respective hip replacements (also private, end of 2021) as I'd been told I wasn't allowed visitors.

I only found out recently that they'd decided which patients they thought needed the support of visitors and I'd been put in the other category.

I'm still a bit miffed as I would have really appreciated a family member for support post surgery. Or been given a choice, the cheeky buggers. Although I'm all set for visitors this time around at least.

I don't understand the point of your post. Are you suggesting that it's ok to be left in pain, and in private care?? The NHS wouldn't collapse if it didn't allow visitors...... but will definitely collapse if the Tories have their way!

Never wore a mask, had to wear one for work between classes, made me so poorly, I could barely breath, would rather the risk of covid then being constantly ill with chest infections because of masks. Had covid about 4 time's and survived.

Also glad hospital restrictions have lifted wouldn't have coped after surgery this month without my partner there to help. Meant the nurse's were freed up, he could help assist me with drinks and going to the toilet and so on

In bed with Covid, the new variant, XBB.1.5, started on the antivirals today because I’m immunosuppressed. It’s completely knocked me for six.

Sorry to hear you are unwell. I’m just getting over Covid myself. Can I ask how you knew which variant it was

gemma19846 · 14/12/2023 23:04

Nope. Never did and never will be dictated to what to do with my own body. If you want to wear a face nappy and breathe in your own germs and carbon dioxide then you do that but humans need oxygen

I came onto this thread thinking it was still going (and to talk about our closed Covid wards) but now I see you literally revived a zombie thread!

BashfulClam · 14/12/2023 23:17

@gemma19846 why did you revive a zombie thread?

Not only reviving a zombie thread, but with a post containing the suggestion that wearing masks means we don't get oxygen 😆😆

I guess some people are natural comedians.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/12/2023 06:15

The thing about the mask debate is it just shows up the lunacy of the whole thing. 50% of people want the government to bring back masks but 0.5% actually wear them.

If you believe in masks just wear an FPP whatever that protects you. Let others crack on, they don’t need to be ‘brought back’. If you don’t wear one then why do you want legislation to force you to?

Calm down. This is a zombie thread revived by someone dubious.
