To Think We Should Still Be Wearing Masks

Especially seeing the news coming out of China, and the lies they seem to be telling about the Covid situation there.

I never stopped wearing a mask when shopping anyway, even though we were told it was no longer necessary.

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

Some of us don't need to be dictated on how to live our lives. Keep your masks to yourself, let the rest of us do as we please.

CharityShopChic · 29/12/2022 00:01

You crack on with your masks, no judgement here.

But you cannot expect others to do likewise. Many of us have had Covid, and I have lost track of how many times i've been vaccinated against it - 4 perhaps? Life goes on, without masks thank you very much.

tigger1001 · 29/12/2022 00:01

No. I hated them. I struggled to see properly and couldn't hear properly either. Made me feel quite vulnerable when out and about, and also made it a chore so basically stopped going anywhere for enjoyment. Only went out for food shopping etc.

I don't want to go back to that.

imnotreallyollie · 29/12/2022 00:03

Literally just no,fuck off

BellaCiao1 · 29/12/2022 00:04

Vaccination doesn't stop transmission.

Lockdowns and over zealous mask wearing are why half the country is sick at the minute, complete lack of exposure to any germs.

ChigedyJigHeeHawHeeHawItsDominicTheDonkey · 29/12/2022 00:06

I still wear one for work (carer) don't bother so much in supermarkets etc. Although to be honest I don't mind wearing one anyway cos it hides my double chin!!

Yes, I know that most people have now been vaccinated.

Considering the vast majority of people never wore them correctly, what benefit would there be to going back to them?

People definitely need to be better with their hygiene and wearing a mask seemed to make them think personal hygiene wasnt relevant.

Chillyweather · 29/12/2022 00:15

For most people it's probably better for your immune system to have some germs to strengthen it so therefore bad to wear masks. Poor immune systems might cause more trouble for health system in future

humpty74 · 29/12/2022 00:16

If you're happy for natural selection to select you don't bother, if you'd rather not catch an organ and immune system destroying "cold" then a well fitting ffp2 or ffp3 should do the job, they worked to protect medical staff in covid wards.

MooseBreath · 29/12/2022 00:16

Unless you're wearing an N95 or an FFP3, there is very little point in wearing a mask. Building immunity by having contact with germs is a good thing. Get vaccinated, stay home if you are I'll, and go about your business otherwise.

Masks are horrible for the environment as well.

OooScotland · 29/12/2022 00:20

I’ve gone back to wearing a mask in cold, damp crowded shops since winter set in and the covid and flu figures in my town went through the roof.

I have reduced lung function due to an infection I caught 12 years ago, decided two doses of the vaccine were enough and am too old care what anyone thinks of my decision to wear a mask in certain situations, although surprisingly about 50% of staff and shoppers in M&S were wearing them today. I think there is generally a higher ‘tolerance’ for mask wearing in Scotland compared to England.

I haven’t had covid and don’t want to for as long as possible (I do know that its inevitable at some point)

BashfulClam · 29/12/2022 00:22

I got covid 5 days after masks were dropped in Scotland. Still wouldn’t want to go back to wearing them.

bert3400 · 29/12/2022 00:23

No No No ...I want to get my natural immunity up to pre Covid levels and if these means I get a cold or flu, so be it . Wearing a mask is detrimental to long term well being but no one is stopping you.

dutysuite · 29/12/2022 00:25

Nah!

Milkand2sugarsplease · 29/12/2022 00:45

Nope, this winter has been horrendous for all the other viruses that the colder weather brings because we've been locked down, wearing masks and not socialising for a few years. I'd quite like to build my immunity up again and not spend the rest of my life running for masks every autumn/winter.

MichaelFabricantWig · 29/12/2022 00:50

Wear one if you want, given they seemingly did bugger all before, I don’t have any and won’t be buying any given I have better things to spend my money on, and nothing happened to people who didn’t wear them before, I won’t be.

WuTangGran · 29/12/2022 00:52

We’ve been wearing masks since the outset. Never had Covid up to now.

ILoveeCakes · 29/12/2022 00:55

You do you, but don't you dare to try to tell other people what to do.

If you want to be a scared pair of eyes peeping out over the top of a mask - fine.

sst1234 · 29/12/2022 00:57

You don’t need a mask for respiratory health. You need therapy for mental health. Or whatever anxiety issues you have.

middleager · 29/12/2022 00:57

Tonight I was at the cinema, not a spare seat in the house.
The child in the next seat was coughing and sniffling away, so I popped on my mask as I felt vulnerable having only recovered from the flu last week myself.
I would not have done that in any other sitaution, but we were shoulder to shoulder and it was most unpleasant. I miss the times when there was at least one seat's difference/buffer in cinemas during the pandemic.

You know that’s not how masks work, right? And how do you know you haven’t had Covid? Do you test every day.

And what did you do before Covid? The world did exist before the 2020.

TimBoothseyes · 29/12/2022 01:00

I thought China had mandatory mask wearing.

Berlinlover · 29/12/2022 01:01

I wore one for eight hours a day working on a supermarket checkout. Every single day I left work with a sore throat. I would lose my mind if we were forced to wear masks again.

CheshireCat1 · 29/12/2022 01:02

As I’m immunosuppressed and there is no mask wearing on public transport I’m unable to use it to travel to work.
