Invoiced for Christmas stay

I’ve already had a thread about SILs bitching that the roast I served (for 11 people) wasn’t piping hot. Now we’re home I’m a bit less cross about that but absolutely fuming about the invoice I’ve received!

The set up is a bit complicated. DH has 3 sisters. The venue was SIL2’s house but I cooked because she’s recovering from an injury.

We all stayed 23-26 December. We brought 2 joints of meat, a Christmas pudding, a Christmas cake, plenty of wine, beer, some gin and rum, some nice cheeses, kids snacks and drinks. There was one cafe lunch and one takeaway and we all paid for our own families. I paid for one top up shop of about £40. Everyone else paid for/brought similar things.

This morning SIL emailed an invoice (made on an invoice template from some software!) to DH and copied me in for £200 for “hospitality”! I understand that hosting 9 people is a lot but I hadn’t expected to be invoiced.

DH wants to pay it to shut her up. I want to ask her to itemise it and to prepare an invoice in return for the hours I spent cooking Christmas dinner.

I cant believe people behave like this, the fucking cheek of it, and thats family....

I'd send your invoice for double hers, if no response you'll be in credit by 200 for next Xmas 😉

I think this is happening a lot more now. One of my friends was telling me that he went to his DD’s at Christmas, gave her £100 towards the food, and his Son-IL went mad that he took food into his room, even though he had technically paid for it! Then the Son-IL asked for another financial contribution afterwards! My lovely SIL was also told to pay £60 to her BIL (her side of the family) even though she took food to her Sisters house, and hosted her sisters family on Boxing Day! I wouldn’t ask anyone to contribute financially, I would just ask for food / drink contribution so that everyone will have something there they like

What a cheeky cunt! Remember that song No Charge? Change the words accordingly & send her that. A bit of a faff but it’ll be kinder than telling her to eff off, & she may (although I doubt it with cheek like that) even feel slight guilt.

I would invoice her for all your expenses, to the tune of £201 and ask her to pay the £1 by bank transfer within seven days. Should get the point across nicely!

tbh I suspect host SIL probably has caught up hence her lack of reply to the email
asking if she’d like me to do her an invoice in return. Hello P!
