I’m prepared to be slaughtered and accused of greed but in my shoes would you be annoyed by this…..
At work one of my colleagues decided to sign up for a radio competition to win a huge sum of money. To win the money they were asked a question live on air. They didn’t know the answer but I did so I told them and they won. Colleague is now (obviously!) ecstatic to receive the prize money, everyone congratulated them, requested a round of drinks on them and went back to work. My point is, is it unreasonable for me to be upset I wasn’t thanked or offered any of the prize money?

There was/is a competition on heart radio where you answer one question and win 12k so it it’s unheard of.

Mirabai · 22/12/2022 17:05

Of course I’d give you half. If you hadn’t answered I’d have got £0. I’d still be £6,000 ahead. You’re the one who won the competition.

ThirtyThreeTrees · 22/12/2022 17:06

In the same circumstances, Iwould have given you half as I would have won zero without you. Most decent people would.

If even she's a bit of a stinge, she could 10k and give you 2k.

Unfortunately you are entitled to nothing.

You obviously don't listen to Absolute Radio. They give away £60k just for picking up the phone and answering with the right words 😂

ladygindiva · 22/12/2022 17:08

I would have given a portion of it. Yanbu. They might think of that later though, wait and see.

Ginger1982 · 22/12/2022 17:10

Maybe she'll contact you privately? I wouldn't do it in front of everyone.

RewildingAmbridge · 22/12/2022 17:10

Maybe she'll get home talk to partner/family and they'll say how much are you giving OP? they might just be a bit shocked

MangoSchmango · 22/12/2022 17:14

My mum once gave the right answer as the “phone a friend” on who wants to be a millionaire.

She was given some money as a thank you - I have a vague recollection that it was £500. She was happy with this although other people felt she should have been given more (person didn’t become a millionaire but they did win a decent amount).

The cash register was 175 grand today and all you have to do is answer the phone in 5 rings and get the amount right to win it. That's radio for you.

VillaMaria71 · 22/12/2022 17:17

I think £1000 is a fair amount.

mintbiscuit · 22/12/2022 17:19

Oo come back and let us know the outcome OP!

Poppyblush · 22/12/2022 17:24

Say something!!!

Moveoverdarlin · 22/12/2022 17:24

OMG, I would have to say something. They are 12 grand better off because of you! I would go and say to them ‘good job I knew the answer Janet! You had no idea! You’re very welcome though! Merry Christmas!’

Personally I would give you at least 500 quid, probably a grand to be honest.

I'm guessing you don't listen to commercial radio stations.

Absolute Radio, pick up the phone within 5 rings, answer with make me a winner and the money in the pot is yours.
If someone doesn't answer or they just say hello, the money rolls over and more is added. It has been over £100k before.

Cool story bro 🤪

Tulipomania · 22/12/2022 17:26

Can't believe they didn't even have the good manners to say Thank You!

OhChristmasTreeOhChristmasTreeFaLaLa · 22/12/2022 17:29

You are grabby. They probably entered because they needed the money, nice you helped out, but you sound entitled.

azlazee1 · 22/12/2022 17:29

In her place I would definitely split the money with you. She would have nothing if not for your input.

Tinselpipes · 22/12/2022 17:29

The decent thing would be to give you half. I can't believe they aren't giving you anything, not even a grand

2thumbs · 22/12/2022 17:29

Was it clear to your colleague that it was you who gave the answer? I’m picturing a crowd gathered around, a voice shouts something out, the detail of who said it gets lost in the excitement. Not that your colleague wouldn’t/shouldn’t want to find out and show their gratitude…

RestingMurderousFace · 22/12/2022 17:32

Ooft, you deserve a hefty chunk, OP! If it were me I'd give you half without a second thought.

twatmas · 22/12/2022 17:32

What was the question OP?

Howeverdoyouneedme · 22/12/2022 17:32

Half is fair.

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2022 17:32

I'd be fuming. Not even a thank you! Yanbu!!! I'd have to say something.

Grapesontheice · 22/12/2022 17:34

I wrote it down and placed it in front of them (I was sat opposite) they definitely knew it was me.
I’m entitled to basic manners so yes Christmastree you are correct 🙄

OP posts:
Turtledoveholly · 22/12/2022 17:35

Maybe she hasn’t thought about it yet .. maybe you will be given something after Christmas - time will tell .. I personally wouldn’t ask for it though I might say something after Christmas
