I’m prepared to be slaughtered and accused of greed but in my shoes would you be annoyed by this…..
At work one of my colleagues decided to sign up for a radio competition to win a huge sum of money. To win the money they were asked a question live on air. They didn’t know the answer but I did so I told them and they won. Colleague is now (obviously!) ecstatic to receive the prize money, everyone congratulated them, requested a round of drinks on them and went back to work. My point is, is it unreasonable for me to be upset I wasn’t thanked or offered any of the prize money?

You should've entered yourself
Think you are right to be annoyed

I know how you feel. My local radio station used to run a competition where they would play a snippet of someone talking, maybe 3 or 4 words and listeners would phone in to guess who it was. The prize money went up by £25 each day and it had reached over £1000 for this one voice. I had been convinced for some time that it was John Lennon and finally got through only to be told it wasn't him. I was gutted as I was still convinced I was right. The money was won the next day, it was Paul McCartney. I am sure that I gave them the clue, it still bugs me!!

Any update @Grapesontheice , now that you are all back at work after Christmas break?

CambsAlways · 06/01/2023 18:06

I’m wondering the same thing.

They handed in their notice over Christmas so they won’t be here for much longer luckily, but no they haven’t said anything and I’ve kept my distance. Lesson learned!

I'd give you 1000

@Grapesontheice if they're leaving anyway, I'd definitely have a word with them now. What's the worst that could happen?
Try adding it on to the end of an otherwise non confrontational comment - 'Your family must have been so happy with the win, it was really lucky we were together at the time so I could help you' or 'Did you have a nice Xmas? I was telling all my family about how I was able to help you win that radio prize. Good job I knew the answer' kind of thing.

Bahhhhhumbug · 11/01/2023 20:29

I'd be inclined to report them, sure its against rules for most radio competitions for someone give you the answer

Tzimi · 01/12/2023 06:01

It would be nice of them to offer you something, or at least buy you a coffee!
