Naked charity calendar - AIBU

Curtaincall1 · 18/12/2022 15:00

I recently purchased a naked charity calendar from a local sports club as a lighthearted way of helping a good cause and a little bit of fun. However I have told my partner and he has completely overreacted and wants me to get rid of it comparing it to pornography.
what’s more is my son overheard us arguing about the calendar and he’s not happy either and wants it binned.

Would you have actually displayed it? Seems tacky to me. I’d have just made a donation to the charity.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 18/12/2022 15:03

I thought naked charity calendars went out of fashion about 20 years ago!

If it's a house calendar it should be something everyone is happy with.

If it's your own calendar for personal use, you can have what you like as long as the pictures aren't illegal.

Stressedmum2017 · 18/12/2022 15:05

Fine if your single and no kids, not in a relationship. How would u feel if you came home to calender of naked women hung up in the kitchen? I would not hang something like up in my sons home either.

Needmorelego · 18/12/2022 15:05

Naked men or women? I'm guessing blokes. I wonder if they would be so fussed if it was women.
Get some Sharpies and draw clothes on them. Really over the top silly clothes to make a point how silly your husband and son are.

Merlott · 18/12/2022 15:06

Lol the hypocrisy!

Naked calendars can be whimsical or creepy, what's this one like?!

I hope you responded by calling him a prude!

TreadLight · 18/12/2022 15:07

Depending on what is on show and what is implied, it pretty much is porn. Maybe soft porn but still porn.

Regularsizedrudy · 18/12/2022 15:08

I would find his insecurity (not to mention his controlling behaviour) deeply unattractive. It’s a charity calendar so guessing all very pg13. It’s not like hanging porn mags up.

Curtaincall1 · 18/12/2022 15:08

Regarding the calendar it’s cheeky but not full nudity, it’s all attractive men but it’s not full nudity. I thought it wouldn’t be an issue but apparently not.

Would you be ok with him having a calendar of naked women OP?

SarahoftheWind · 18/12/2022 15:15

Get him a charity calendar featuring some attractive women and see his reaction

MolesOnPoles · 18/12/2022 15:18

I wouldn’t be happy with that up in my house, men or women. Possibly I’m a prude, but it’s my house so I don’t want to see see something vile there every day.

If it was in a similar nature I would be completely fine, it’s a lighthearted calendar. And it was in our bedroom so my son woudlnt ever see it.

Why is a naked or partially clothed body "vile?!?

To specify it’s a rugby club, they’re naked in their pictures so you can see everything but their manhood is always hidden by Rugby balls. It’s naked but not full frontal

Diffuserqueen · 18/12/2022 15:55

To be fair to him, most folks wouldn’t want a calendar of practically nude members of the opposite sex in their bedroom of all places 😂

SnapHappily · 18/12/2022 15:56

you are being completely unreasonable and quite frankly the only redeeming factor is the charitable donation.

You are asking your partner and son to be ok with you leering at naked men in plain sight.

Also did you think about the mothers of these men? In assuming they’re student age/in their 20s, can’t be nice knowing their sons naked pictures will be hung up in various houses to be leered at. If it wasn’t for the word charity this would be 100% YABU

Testina · 18/12/2022 16:00

If that was the women’s rugby team you’d be thinking about the message your husband was sending to you son.

Those calendars were funny when they were (a) not boring and (b) of a different time.

They're pretty shit now. Doesn’t sound like yours even has any humour to try to redeem it.

BeanieTeen · 18/12/2022 16:07

It’s weird that you bought it to be honest, even weirder that you want to hang it in your bedroom. Apart from being tacky as hell for a bedroom - surely people just buy these for a laugh to hang in an office or behind the bar at your local pub or something - obviously your husband, unless he’s bisexual and you’re both into checking out other men together (doesn’t sound like it…), won’t want to adorn his house with photos of naked blokes, whimsical or not. Is your taste in home decor generally this bad?

MolesOnPoles · 18/12/2022 16:10

@TooHotToRamble I think people taking their clothes off for money - for whatever cause - is gross. Fine if others don’t, but in my own home I’d be really unhappy to have to see it all the time.

This. Imagine the uproar on this thread if it was the husband brining home a womens nude calendar and wanting to hang it in the bedroom.

Curtaincall1 · 18/12/2022 16:18

I get that to an extent but it didn’t originate from a bad desire. I was having food with a friend in our rugby clubs cafe as it’s open to the public. Whilst I was there I seen them, thought very little of it and bought it. I can see your arguments but it wasn’t sinister

I’d be very surprised if your husband and son don’t both watch porn online, especially your son. And that’s a lot less likely to be consensual, and a lot more likely to be violent and degrading than your charity calendar.

‘The lesser of two evils’

PorridgewithQuark · 18/12/2022 16:27

🤢

Disturbing on multiple levels including the fact you've hung pictures of other women's naked sons up in your marital bedroom.

I'm surprised that naked amateur calenders for charrridy are still around - though admittedly less so in the rugby context.

As others say though I wonder whether you're being honest claiming that you'd be happy if your husband came home with a calendar of the naked late teen and early 20s women on the women's rugby team and hung that in your bedroom (and what their mums would think).

No way of us knowing whether they do, but either way condoning and supporting soft porn is an extremely odd way of preventing other people viewing abusive sexual images. A bit like suggesting handing out free beer to 14 year olds at school lunch because you'd be surprised if they're not drinking vodka in the park anyway.
