To think he’s just a cocklodger?

Lots of debate in previous months about the high profile marriage split of a famous (ish) Welsh actor, who got his big break with a bit part in the Titanic movie. He has spent the last year doing no work, no childcare and just traveling around the world with his new girlfriend who appears to also have no job.

And now he seems to have admitted that his living expenses are being funded by his poor partner who is also battling a challenging life-changing illness.

He's just another cocklodger, isn’t he?

It has to be Ioan Gruffudd - I think he fairly recognisable rather than say he is famous-ish. Although I can’t stand him in the show where he plays the pathologist. Sounds like the whole situation is pretty toxic with his ex-wife. We have no idea why he has had a year off before he brand him a cocklodger. His girlfriend seems pretty happy with him.

Hmm he's apparently fallen on hard times. It could be temporary but aren't partners supposed to support each other through difficult times?

he wants to sell the house his children live in. Not sure what Californian law says but in the U.K. that wouldn’t be a given with such young children would it.

there is no denying that he’s splurged a lot of whatever savings he had on a long holiday over the past few months. Heaven knows how difficult it must be for his young girlfriend, who seems to love him very much but possibly is blinded by his stardom as much as he is blinded by her relative youth.

I guess she must have some kind of income or savings to be able to pay thousands of dollars of his rent.

Wow $2mil doesn’t get you very much in LA does it. It sounds like a couple who spent beyond their means and now it’s all fallen apart. I can see why he is saying it needs to be sold if neither of them can afford it. I can’t see why that would be any different to the UK.

If this is coming from her, she was making extensive posts on social media that were both abusive and suggest that she either has mental health or addiction issues. She then went quiet for a while with the suggestion her divorce lawyers told her to knock it off.

Her behaviour towards their children is fairly appalling and is likely to cause them immense damage. Tens if not hundreds of thousands women are left by their husbands but grit their teeth and do what’s best for the children. Alice Evans is apparently incapable of doing that.

I think it’s more like neither one of them can afford the mortgage on the house so yes, it needs to be sold. Either that or the bank repossesses it.

Houses are routinely sold as part of divorce. It’s not a shocking development.

One of the children is about 8, the other not that much older. Still young enough for a court to expect someone in his position to support financially. Or is it different in California?

morally at least I would think they need to be housed. I can of course see the logic in selling the house and splitting the proceeds but my ‘angle’ was his recent revelations about his seemingly jobless girlfriend paying his bills. Though of course he is paying his wife and children’s bills. Maybe he should stop doing that.

They're in LA, I'm guessing he'd have to support his ex wife and children

I bet you any money the second he manages to get the house sold he lands a big job...

Support proportionate to his income. If his income isn’t what it was, he’s not going to be able to pay the same amount of child maintenance.

Both parents have a responsibility for housing the children, but that doesn’t need to be in a mansion neither of them can afford. The children needing to be housed will not stop the bank repossessing it if payment cannot be made.

According to his girlfriend they were visiting her family and friends in Australia, which is were she is from. Her MS is aggressive. My friend and f a similar age to her hasn't long died from the complications of aggressive MS, fifteen years after first diagnosis. She had no quality of life for around six years, so why shouldn't they grab what time they can? Alice's harrasment must have had an impact on his career, it was excessive. On paper, neither of them can afford the house, so it would be best for it to be sold and long term plans made. Bianca Wallace was worth over a million, which is how the rent is still being paid. Bit crass to refer to her as jobless, given her diagnosis. She still earns via SM. No-one can declare someone who they don't know as a user/cock lodger etc.

With aggressive MS I'm sure that she is ecstatic. For all we know she could have been getting treatment advice. Different countries take different approaches. There were breakthroughs happening in regards to MS that were shelved because Covid research took over.

She was an actress and director. Because of her condition she seems to generate income via SM. As said my friend died of aggressive MS, in her 40's, diagnosed at a similar age to Bianca so I've taken notice. Plus it's been difficult to ignore the MH decline in Alice.

Given that neither of them can afford it then yes, I imagine he would be.

Having encountered Alice Evans (firmly on the ‘could have lived without doing that, but here we are’ list), and knowing other people who have, my sympathy is limited. As is trust in her narrative. Bear in mind this is the woman that used to harass his fans on IMDB, when she wasn’t screaming a them, and other hapless passers by, in real life. Never met him so who knows on that one, but he seems to be trying to keep it to the courts. The smartest move.

In California, as long as you can pay the mortgage you can keep the house - children or no children.
Once you stop paying, you’re in trouble. After several months, the bank (or mortgage co) evicts you - children or no children. The eviction process takes awhile - from a few months up to a year. Then they physically remove you. Sometimes police/sheriff are involved if you’re stubborn about leaving.
Banks here are not sentimental. It’s up to the responsible party to provide shelter for the minor children.

What has she directed?

she was in accounting and previously married, maybe her wealth comes from that. She then was an extra, though she gave that up before she met Ioan (she said) until she did one last extra job where she met him. Her acting credits are small independent and web based things (about 3 or 4) but I can’t imagine they were well paid.

The rent on their flat adds up to something like 40,000 dollars a year (not including living costs) and if he is as broke as he says he is then she must have an incredible income from her SM given how little she posts!
