Anyone else? I just don’t get their popularity.

A dressing gown, or any other hooded blanket will do the job of keeping you warm. Costs a lot less too.

Am I missing something here?

Horses for courses, but for me, "properly dressed" means I'm wearing something I'd be prepared to pop to the shops in. Which an Oodie isn't.

Yes but if you're properly dressed with an oodie on top, you take the oodie off (and probably put a coat on) to go to the shops! If I wear an apron to cook in (which I'd take off to go to the shops Grin), would that mean I wasn't properly dressed, assuming I'm wearing my normal outfit underneath?

If I'm properly dressed, sufficient to go to the shops, the clothes I'm wearing will be warm

Too warm to want anything else on top!

Love mine for being cosy on the sofa last Christmas I brought four three were presents got money knocked off the people who have them too love them. I want the blanket next I’ll save for that of course.

Sammysees · 27/11/2022 19:38

I am currently laid out on the sofa with mine on. And a pair of pj bottoms. I’ve tried the knock-offs. They don’t compare to the real thing. If you are a cold person they are the best thing since sliced bread. I am on Team Oodie 😊

They are hideous, hideous looking things.

But it is a wonderful thing to feel toasty, whilst wrapped up in something soft and fluffy, without needing the heating on. Mine goes on over smart work wear when I am WFH and gets whipped off for meetings.

Just avoid mirrors.

Pretty sure it's not my job to look pretty in case someone sees me. Imagine having so much internalised misogyny that you think you and everyone around you needs to be good looking at all times.

Only on MN could not wanting to dress
like a giant beanbag be evidence of internalised misogyny.

I avoid mirrors at the best of times.

I bought Dh an oodie for his birthday as he works from home and was always cold and he said that he is actually warm enough without the heating now . I bought myself a cheaper Dunelm version- which I thought was good until I borrowed his . Last night I ordered myself a real one . It had £40 off as a Black Friday deal . Can’t wait for it to arrive ! Couldn’t care less what it looks like . I am not going to freeze on the off chance that someone spies through my window and judges me !

Sillybanana · 27/11/2022 20:08

Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it op. I didn’t believe the hype until I got one.

Rubyupbeat · 27/11/2022 20:35

They look horrendous and look as though you would melt in them.

But surely you understand that your experience (melt) isn't the same as someone else's, who feels constantly cold?

Hang on, this is MN.

As you were.

mamabear715 · 27/11/2022 20:47

They are disgusting things, fugly, if I get one for Christmas it'll be going straight to charity.
But I also hate leggings, hated those moths-have-got-at-them cold shoulder tops, hate those bloody ugly boots & trainers with the mahoosive soles, etc etc, so ignore me & stay warm! ;-)

Haribosweets · 27/11/2022 20:58

I have 2 proper oodies. Absolutely love them. 1 I got on ebay but brand-new about £45 the 2nd I paid proper oodie price from oodie (£60) so warm, much thicker than dressing gowns, and primark versions. Long (shin level on me) and huge so can cover whole body. Love the patterns too. Yes expensive but worth every penny especially this time of year

EmmatheStageRat · 27/11/2022 21:05

Got an Ony (£38.99 from John Lewis) as do my two DDs and my elderly housebound mother. I’ve not had to put my heating on yet at all (I’d rather not be a shill for Putin.) We cannot fault the Ony’s; they are like a warm slice of heaven.
