Anyone else? I just don’t get their popularity.

A dressing gown, or any other hooded blanket will do the job of keeping you warm. Costs a lot less too.

Am I missing something here?

@SkylightSkylight I'm large of chest and it's like a cardigan I guess. Went a size up as I don't care what it looked like Grin and it doesn't slip at all

RainbowsMoonbeams · 17/11/2022 16:12

A mixed bag of views on them it seems.

I don’t see the point in them for cost saving, given the extortionate price vs a nice thick blanket/duvet.

Probably because you can't do the cooking/washing up whilst wearing a duvet/blanket.

The knock off oodies let's you still do normal things around the house such as washing up/cooking, it washes and dries quickly and doesn't keep coming undone unlike dressing gowns.

ToastAndJames · 17/11/2022 16:42

People cook in them? I'd be scared of catching fire- you'd go up like a Roman candle!

How are you cooking?! 😱
Not everything involved woks and a foot of flame.

You would have to try really hard to set yourself on fire by using the oven or electric hob.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 17/11/2022 16:46

I don't have one but I've bought one for my daughter who is in a flat share and they aren't putting the heating on due to costs.

They all work different hours/shifts so heating costs would be astronomical to cater for all.
So this oodie is very welcome and means that she can potter about and still feel snuggly.

Dressing gowns aren't as thick and keep undoing. Pottering around and cooking /typing isn't easy to do with a blanket around you.

These are not people who cook. Very much a “bag of Doritos dinner” outfit:

I actually thought it was just a ridiculous name for a hoody invented by MN🤭

From what I’ve seen they’re big baggy shapeless things that make you look like a bag of shit, so definitely not for me. Plus how do you keep your legs warm?

That's just your prejudice showing through.

You can easily make a lasagna from scratch without setting fire to yourself wearing one.

Juliejuly · 17/11/2022 17:00

I'm sat here wearing my knock off version. I work from home and it keeps me warm while I'm sitting at my desk. Much cheaper and more effective than having the heating on and easier than covering myself with blankets and throws.
When I'm on a video call, no one can really see what I'm wearing either.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 17/11/2022 17:02

Mine is saving me £££ in heating bills - guaranteed to keep the coldest of people (of which I am one) warm and cozy.

It's much warmer than my dressing gown, and doesn't make me look like I haven't bothered to get dressed.

sakurasdream · 17/11/2022 14:20

But you literally wear them around the house, no? 😂. Who gives a toss if you look ridiculous in one, if it keeps you warm (better than a dressing gown btw, and your sophisticated silk thermals I would imagine) then does it really matter? Good for you for having such elegant standards Grin.

Personally, I find being 'properly' dressed is good for my mental health, and makes me feel good. I'd only wear a dressing gown around the house if I was ill.

I therefore prefer to wear cosy thermal loungewear / casual wear that is still 'proper' clothing, rather than something that's equivalent to a dressing gown.

I don't think I'm unique in this - not dressing yourself can be an indicator for depression. (I'm not saying Oody wearers are depressed, just that plenty of people feel better when they are properly dressed.)

Yeah, I'm the same.

Even if I'm not going anywhere, I feel so much better if I've had a shower and dressed into something nice - even if it's just leggings and a nice jumper. I feel a lot more put together in an "outfit".

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 17/11/2022 11:40

If you put one on, you'd get it. It's really hard to put into words just how lovely and cosy they are to wear.

Totally agree

jonnyjannoo · 17/11/2022 17:58

Me and the DCs love our Oodies. They are really warm, so I wear mine when I'm working at home in the daytime with no heating on. As soon as the heating comes on I take it off as that's way too much. But it's perfect for 7 hours in my bloody freezing loft!

Hellocatshome · 17/11/2022 18:06

I love my Primark version. Can do all the household chores wearing it and a lot warmer than my dressing gown.

Autumnleaves87 · 17/11/2022 18:07

Love it. Can stick it on and turn the heating down. Saves on the bills!!!!!

cookiecreammmpie · 17/11/2022 18:09

I've bought my husband one for Christmas and it feels very thick and warm. I couldn't wear one because I couldn't bear it flapping around me and I think they're ugly. But I cant even wear dressing gowns either for the same reason.

miceonabranch · 17/11/2022 18:12

They are hideous monstrosities.

Underanothersky · 17/11/2022 18:14

How very dare someone wear something i will never see them in to keep themselves warm!

CeciliaMars · 17/11/2022 18:16

Love mine - it's super warm!

RedWingBoots · 17/11/2022 18:16

I'm currently wearing my fur lined hoodie from Uniqlo, which is mens. I also have oodies well kuddlys. The difference is the oodies (real, other branded versions, or generic) are bigger and longer than the hoodie I'm currently wearing so more of me is kept warm while I WFH. I have a dressing gown and blankets but they are thinner than the oodies so don't keep me as warm. The blankets also fall off if I get up to go to the loo or get a drink, so I have to rewrap myself in them.

CraigDavid · 17/11/2022 18:19

Hideous. Plus all that polyester- yikes.

donttellmehesalive · 17/11/2022 18:21

I haven't rtft and have just read the op. I completely agree. They are hideous. I would be embarrassed to answer the door in one. I tried my daughter's and did not feel warmer than wearing a warm jumper, hoody or dressing gown. It's like emporers new clothes. Their marketing must be very effective.

jonnyjannoo · 17/11/2022 18:23

Who cares what they look like? They're for wearing in the house not for going to the shops or the pub Confused
