To not understand the hype with oodies?

Anyone else? I just don’t get their popularity.

A dressing gown, or any other hooded blanket will do the job of keeping you warm. Costs a lot less too.

Am I missing something here?

The hype for me is the fact that it's extremely thick (I have a dupe which is nowhere near the same quality) enabling me to keep the heating off and still stay warm. I don't care what it looks like because it's not as if I'm wearing it outside, I'm in the comfort of my own home and happy and warm.

thelobsterquadrille · 17/11/2022 13:26

I don't get it either - they're hideous and look so sweaty and uncomfortable.

PincesssPeachh · 17/11/2022 13:33

I've got an Oodie, it's lovely quality and very warm. But it's too thick and heavy for doing anything other than sitting watching TV. I work from home and it just feels annoying to move around it. I bought a Primark one which I prefer SO much more as it doesn't have the fluffy lining. It's cosy and lightweight. My teenage son lives in his Oodie though.

MoreThanJustANumber · 17/11/2022 13:34

Love mine. So much warmer than the dupes and wash really well. I now have several, only for working from home. Wear M&S heatgen plus leggings and sheepskin slipper boots and we've not had the heating on yet. I was so cold last winter in my north facing office with thick dressing gown and thermals, but this has been brilliant. DP has one too but he's hardier than I am and hasn't worn his yet as it's not cold enough. I change if I'm expecting visitors, and I don't thing delivery drivers really care, if they do that's their problem!

It’s the same as anything though? People buying GHDs for £100+ when Remingtons for £30 will do the same job.

I have to disagree with this statement!
I own both, there's no comparison

LaurieFairyCake · 17/11/2022 13:37

I don't understand why people are saying they're made of plastic Confused

It says their cotton ?

Crankley · 17/11/2022 13:54

I am wearing an Oodie and live alone so don't care what I look like. I have yet to put the heating on in my house. I keep a handwarmer in the big pocket if I need it and am toasty warm.

Personal choice - no-one is forcing you to wear one.

DanglyThings · 17/11/2022 13:54

I realise I'm unusual in a lot of respects, but surely it's not just me who doesn't put any pyjamas / bed things / dressing gown on until 5 or 10 minutes before I actually go to bed??? Same when I get up - dressing gown until I go in the shower then straight into clothes. I often hear people saying they get straight into their pyjamas or whatever as soon as they get home, but more often than not I'll have to go back out to the shop, or my phone will ring and someone needs me for something, so I always have to be ready for that. I can't imagine people sitting about in these things. On the other hand, if I was going to get some kind of furry clothing to avoid putting the heating on, I'd much prefer some fluffy warm bottoms and socks to stop the arctic waft of cold these hoodie things look like they invite! 😅

lovelilies · 17/11/2022 13:54

@JustFree you just described my outfit 😆 I got a super long alpaca and lambs wool cardi from vinted for £15 and I love it, although it's a little scratchy

stuntbubbles · 17/11/2022 12:23

They’re so, so hideous. Silk thermals under proper clothes, all the way.

But you literally wear them around the house, no? 😂. Who gives a toss if you look ridiculous in one, if it keeps you warm (better than a dressing gown btw, and your sophisticated silk thermals I would imagine) then does it really matter? Good for you for having such elegant standards Grin.

Princessbananahamock · 17/11/2022 14:44

I got a primark version it’s lush and warm, very snuggly and I look like baby Yoda in it.

The genuine ones might be cotton but the cheap versions are polyester.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 17/11/2022 14:50

I have a cheap Primark one too. Loads better than a dressing gown.

I don’t really care what I look like, and I’m not spending £££ on silk thermals to wear under my clothes at home, as I’m never as cold out the house.

Aworldofmyown · 17/11/2022 14:52

Not the point of the thread, but, you cannot compare Ghd straighteners with Remington £30 ones. Unless you already have straight hair!!

I have a Kuddly instead of an Oodie ad I love it.

huffyhufferson · 17/11/2022 15:24

How do you all keep your legs cosy?

Yabado · 17/11/2022 15:27

I have 2 orginal oddies for wearing around the house and 2 oddie Tee shirts for wearing in bed
They are fab , really warm and cozy

I bought a bundle deal of 6 orginal oddies as Christmas presents for my nieces and nephews for Christmas

Even my DH has one. He looks stupid wearing it but he loves it

SkylightSkylight · 17/11/2022 15:31

I hate hoods too, even when they're not put up, I find they pull the garment back & make me feel like I'm being choked!!

matronly bossoms might not help in this regard.

but that would keep slipping off my shoulders - life's a dilemma.

Mentalpiece · 17/11/2022 15:36

I have a bright pink ankle length one. It's not an oodie brand one though, a much cheaper one.
I absolutely melted in it, so I gave it to my daughter. She thinks it's the best thing ever, especially with the enormous pouch pocket on the front which she slips her hot water bottle into when she has period cramps.
She can walk around without having to carry the bottle.
In her words ....it's like being wrapped up in a cuddly teddy bear.

Mentalpiece · 17/11/2022 15:37

You can buy ankle length ones like mine.

earsup · 17/11/2022 15:41

hideous things...have seen men in them out and about....just awful..men were also fat so looked pregnant......wear proper clothes or a onesie....not these ugly shapeless things...

SkylightSkylight · 17/11/2022 15:46

I hate dressing gowns. Well, I don't hate them, they hate me! I imagine wafting around in a light one in the summer & a lovely cosy one in winter...

sadly I'm not built to waft and they are just annoying: dangly sleeves, ties that don't stay tied, they gape which would be fine if I had a wafting type body (but as mentioned-do not).

I would just like an old fashioned over sized sweatshirt. But I really hate the fabric they're made from now. I have a couple in the loft that I need to get down, but sadly I fear the might be more 'fitting' now than oversized 🥹

I haven't bought an oodie or knock off. I think id like to choose it 'in person' rather than on the Internet, but I'm not going to the shops at all really.

by the time I do, they'll all be ££££ 🥺

im just happy layering at the moment...you all have the right to say 'I told you so' in a month or so!!🥶

Yep, I'm sure those men would have looked SO much better in a onesie...

Bluevases · 17/11/2022 12:35

Maybe you need to widen your understanding of what people need to do in their homes and how they might best meet those needs? Silk layers have their place, but on occasion, so do man-made fibres.

Oh for heaven’s sake, no one needs to spend £60 to look like this in order to meet some unspecified need. If you’re talking about keeping warm, there are far cheaper and less ridiculous ways.
